Last Chance Turnips, Recovering A Failed Corn Field // Lee and Tiffany Lakosky
Last Chance Turnips, Recovering A Failed Corn Field // Lee and Tiffany Lakosky
Between the browsing pressure and lack of rain this summer, Lee loses one of his best corn fields that he usually depends on for late season food. With time still on his side, and rain in the forecast, it's all hands on deck to disk, till and plant for their last chance at fall food plot on this historic farm.

Can’t tell you how much we appreciate that comment! Thanks for the amazing support and good luck this year!! - Lee and Tiffany 🤜 🤛
Awesome!! Video!! Keep Smiling On!! 😄👍👊❤️
Lee, you went from being a deer hunter to a farmer who grows great deer. Good luck with this crop.
This is the kind of stuff I really like to take a deep dive into - the preparation; everything leading up to the season. Thanks for sharing!
This is great stuff. Thanks for sharing
I feel for you guy’s in Iowa! Last year after June in northeast Nebraska we seen maybe 2 inches of rain for 3 months couldn’t get my plot established. Now this year total opposite unusual July and August rains every couple days. Better years to come just keep praying for rain! God bless!
Same problems here in KY, even my 3 separate RoundUp applications didn’t kill the weeds off like years before. Between lack of rain & the deer just hammering the corn stalks & beans before they could grow much I had to go in & put brassicas & radishes in. Now we aren’t getting much rain, 1/4 Inch once a week or ten days. My plan now is to just wait another couple weeks & go in & plant oats & winter wheat where it’s needed. My toughest year in 16 years of doing my food plots. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the fertilizer I’m buying isn’t as good as years before & the RoundUp wasn’t as effective or powerful enough. Knowing it’s all sold by major corporations the idea of them selling an inadequate & “watered down” product is more likely than not.
Good Luck with it all.

Thanks Jerry! Luckily had some rain since we filmed this and the new seed is already germinated and under way!
As we go along..plotting for 20 plus years, I’m learning to savor rain. Seems lack of moisture is becoming more common place here in the midwest. Im working more towards no till and release plots last couple years. My disc is seeing less use each year.

I would have to agree with you on all fronts here. Year to year, it does seem like it’s not painting a very pretty picture . In this case, I hated to release what moisture I had, but between what was left of the corn and all the foxtail, I had to disk it all down. I hate to wish for excess snow, but if that’s where we make up for it, I’ll take all we can get. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment, -Lee

@@LeeandTiffanyLakosky Hope that plot does well for ya. We’ve caught a few rains as of last 3 wks, but we are still in need of moisture. Take Care!
Love the plotting videos! Love to see an equipment / implement walk through sometime!
November is coming! Great Work Lee :)
Wow not good .. good luck ..hopefully it will change for you guys and you get enough rain to keep your fall plots alive
Have you thought about a double crop planting like brassicas and corn together or clover and a cover crop that way the deer have something other then the corn and soybeans to munch on. I plant a 1/2acre brassica food plot over a yard waste compost (Last years dead grass and leafs compost) I dont even have to fertilize it and still get soft ball size bulbs by winter. Using clover would help hold moisture for corn and beans and deer would eat the greens before they touch the corn and beans.
Love these vidoes
"OH no the deer ate my deer food" lol
What kind of corn do you guys plant?? Should be a exciting year for you, looking forward to seeing how it all plays out. Good hunting this season
We are having our wettest year on record here in Maine and you’re stuck in a drought. I’ll try to send you some rain 😁.

Caveman blemd has more ryegrass in it than anything is there a specific reason for this like a cetain scenario or something ?? Love watching the farm come along . Thanks for bringing us along brother.
Are you going to put any more fertilizer on for the brassica?
21 acres of foodplot, although set back by drought.... wiped out by deer? Do you maybe have too many deer chief? I felt bad about my half acre bean plot lol.. goodluck guys!

3 weeks too early for rye, i use it to fill in bare spots and set up future plots @@travissmith-wz5nc
Lee, got a a question. For a guy planting some decent size food plots but starting out. How can i keep track of the area ive planted to get a consistent planting. Seems every time i plant i notice spots i miss when it starts growing. Is their an affordable app, or system to gps my movements in the field.
Deer need a pond
Hi Lee, was just wondering what you do for a living and do you grain farm at all?
Doesn't a deer, eat 15lbs of food per day? I believe 1 acer holds about 500lbs of feed , if I'm right, I can see just a couple of deer can wipe a field of food out very fast..

They do eat a lot more than most people would think, and it does not take long at all to wipe out a food source when you have so many mouths at the table!

That's why Plant Cowpeas here in Kentucky with Labb Labb and Sunhemp, 8000 pounds of Forage per acre.
U got alot of deer then to eat 20 acres of corn
WITH ALL THE MONEY AND SPONSORS THAT YOU HAVE , PUT UP A IRREAGATION SYSTEM NOT TRYING TO BE A SMART A...... BUT THIS DROUGHT AFFECTS THE WHOLE COUNTRY . IRREAGATON SYSTEMS COULD USED AT EVERY HIGH END DEER MANAGEMENT PROPERTYS JUST A MATTER OF DRILLING SOME WATER WELLS ,WITH PLASTIC PIPE DISTRIBUTION
