LASD Motorcycle Deputy Thomas Albanese Killed In Lakewood Crash While Chasing Charger | Lakewood CA

A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was killed Thursday in a crash in the Lakewood area, Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
Villanueva identified the deputy as 41-year-old Thomas Albanese. He joined the department in 2013.
The crash happened at about 9 a.m. near Del Amo and Paramount boulevards. The crash appeared to happen in the middle of the intersection and involve at least one other car, a silver Mercedes-Benz sedan.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was taken to a hospital and is in unknown condition.
Prior to his career with the Sheriff’ Department, Albanese served in the Marine Corps, from March 2001 through March 2010, including four tours in Iraq.
“Thomas touched the lives of many people while working in the Department. He received several commendations for his work in patrol and helping the citizens of Los Angeles County,” Villanueva said.
Albanese is survived by his wife of 12 years, Erica, and two young boys.

It's hard enough to avoid getting crushed like a bug on a bike just PLEASURE riding within any city's limits. This should be a lesson to any motor officer: Get the plate#, radio it in, call it good. One of the news channels showed a video of the collision. The video showed that the Mercedes was not the only car in the intersection and the female driving it told the deputy interviewing her that she was making a left turn on a green arrow. The Mercedes was well into the intersection when the collision occurred so the motorcycle cop clearly had a red light for more than just a few seconds. Even with lights and sirens, emergency vehicles are not supposed to charge blindly through a red light. The deputy was hauling ass when he hit the Mercedes.

    This Officer definitely has a lot of respect. This doesn't even count the Military. He's eligible for both. The Marines and a Police Officer killed during the line of duty. My heart goes out to his Family. He got hit really hard. One of his Superiors gave a News Conference from out front of the precent. He stated they have all kind of footage. If they got the license plate of the charger, that Person could be facing serious charges. They are not going to let this go. They might even charge the Woman from the BMW. She may of had the green arrow, but she didn't make sure it was clear for her to turn. When I was younger, riding a bike. I was crossing with the light, but before I made it to the other side, just like this Woman is stating. The arrow turned green for the opposing traffic. I was right in front of the person who hit me. He told the Police once the arrow turned green, he looked to his left and then pulled out. If he would of looked back to his right, like stated in the driving manuel. He would of saw me, before hitting me. He received a ticket for not making sure it was clear for him to enter the (4 lane st. /highway). Thank God I wasn't hurt anything like this Officer. He was in the middle of the intersection when she hit him. And as you can tell by the bike and her car. It was a hard hit. She admitted she saw the Charger go through. A lot of First Responders who only have a light to put either on the front dash or on top of the roof of their vehicle. They get into accidents like this, because People aren't paying attention to their light. They don't have sirens. Which the State Laws should allow them to get sirens. A lot of times People don't even realize they are being pulled over by Police until they hit their siren. And also there are those who won't pull off to the side to allow the first responders to pass them. The First Responders are trying to get to their Stations, as fast and safely as possible. Only paid First Responders stay at their hall. If the First Responders in your City/Town are Volunteers, very rarely due they hang out in their halls. Only for their monthly meetings and or a training class. And just like the Police, when a First Responder passes away. The Station they are Members in, will get together and take flowers or fruit baskets to the Spouse / Family. Usually the Police, Ambulance/Medics and Firemen, Fire Police all show up at the service, out of respect. Especially in small Cities. Usually they all know each other. I saw a video last week, that was first live and then the MSM posted it. Where California Police were chasing a stolen van. There were 2 or 3 helicopters in the sky, the Police Chopper and the MSM news chopper. Several times during that pursuit. The Police backed off, for the Public Safety. And the helicopters were the ones who were following the stolen van. The Police monitor the helicopters and when they know the suspects are basically putting themselves in an area, where they have no way out, the Police surround them. Chances are this Officer had his body cam on and possibly the cam on his bike. It's not like Bonnie and Clyde days anymore. You can't out run the Police. If they don't get you on the road. If they have the tag number, it will lead them to the Suspect unless it was stolen. And even with that, they have cameras everywhere. So they get the film from those. Many Police Depts. have been saying that since Covid hit, there's been a lot of high rate speeders. This Officer was married to his Wife for 12 years and they have two Sons ages 11 yrs and 7 yrs old. This tragedy happened on February 25, 2021. He was only 41 years old. And he served Our Country doing 4 tours of duty in Iran. Then when he came back, he became a Police Officer. I pray his Sons or his Wife never see any of the pictures those people took.

    It's sad when anyone loses their life especially during a crime. I was wondering who is actually at fault in this. The officer for not slowing down through the light, the car that didn't see him and pulled out or the one he was chasing ? I've seen plenty of chases but the officer usually slows down at intersections at the same time I've seen people distracted that go when the light turns green without looking and we all know the one being chased was the start of it

  • @vivians9392

    @vivians9392

    3 жыл бұрын

    The driver is not at fault for not looking first before turning left when that light turned green In fact, most people do not look, because those lights are short and only about 3 cars can turn before they are red again...maybe the officer was so focused on the chase that he didn't realize his light had turned red, so he didn't slow down in the intersection, which I feel was the case. It would be safer if the bikes had sirens to use during a chase like the cars. Flashing lights on bikes don't protect officers when the driver is focused, watching for the light change. Period. Question: Why so many officers show up when there is nothing they can now do? I understand respect and loyalty, but this leaves a BIG part of the community without any protection from crimes and other accident investigations when they gather in one area for an extended time. RIP to the Officer and condolences to his wife and children...

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
