The fuzzy house slippers always gets me.

I have quite a few friends move to Vegas in the 1980's and 1990's and almost all of them moved back to Cali they all said the woes accompanying rapid growth caught up with the City and region. Same with cities in California but the urban decay will come for these cities as they expand from people migrating from other states.

Looks like off the strip shortcuts I always used to take. I don't recall all the women though but I haven't been in 6 years. Always wondered why there were so many buildings just sitting there because I can't remember anytime they were all occupied. Went from 2001 to 2016.

Interesting story about Vegas. When AT&T were just setting up their wireless networks in NV and Las Vegas specifically, they offered my old boss an exclusive dealer license in Las Vegas. He would be the first and only wireless carrier in the city. My boss thought that was pretty cool, but decided to do some research. After about two months of living there and researching the demographics, he found out a huge chunk of the population is either a) completely transitory (druggies, tourists, part-time dealers and hospitality staff) or retired on fixed income. He figured those two demographics made up more than 70-80% of the population. He passed on the offer and was happy he did. In the span of about a decade, AT&T had more than a dozen people try and use that "exclusive dealer" license and they all went out of business. My boss always told me, "Sometimes its the not risks you take that keep you in business, but the ones you DON'T take."

Everytime I saw the Rio hotel 's shadow in the background of this video, the hotel hovering over the neighborhood ominously, and the juxtiposition of the Rio's decadent ambience vs the dirty streets of vegas, shrouding the street walkers in darkness, I kept thinking of that song.
