@@AXharoth It wasn't so much a boxing match but a clash between two martial arts. Kicking and other low maneuvers were fine and dandy there until things started going slightly south for Twister, it became a boxing match mid-fight.

Haha, it's also important to remember that this is a movie. What you said about spiritual and mental health only applies to some martial artists. whether it's Western or Eastern. Note that boxing is also a martial art. But yeah, Chinese martial arts are oozing with pretentiousness and conceit for the most part. The Shaolin are pretty great though. No one can contest that. That said, they are also a Buddhist religious order, so that plays a large part in who they are.

The response should have been "He can kick as well. So he's admitting he cannot defeat Chinese Kung Fu, then the match IS over b/c he's admitting defeat and admitting he can only win against a boxer".

Mixing Occidental and Oriental fight style is also pretty devastating. I have a friend who's be inspired by Tekken and mixing kickboxing and taekwondo, that's difficult to use, but it's bloody destructive !

Twister might be very strong and durable but he's more weaker than Frank and Garton Geddes. Edit: Ip Man can beat both of them too even when he's not in his prime.

A boxer style fighter wouldn't last long vs such a versatile fighting style, given they're equals of course. I've always thorougly enjoyed the Ip Man movies.

RIP Darren Shahlavi. The iranian british actor died from a heart attack in his sleep in 2015. Theres a picture of him as a skinny kid at 19 next to his idol donnie yen. This scene is so tragic when you know he died not long after he just got his big break

Really, it's a very good movie.

wing chun would not perform so well in a boxing competition if it was two fighters like this, but in an irl streetfight situation it could be very different

Filmy takie jak np. Ip Man, bardzo dobrze pokazują ignorancję, bezczelność, Anglosasów. Widać to w całej historii.

Ip Man was able to do locks, elbow hits, kicking, hold his opponent on the floor, apply pressure on his eyes- maybe he won but he is not the hero - it is complete dirty fighting. Anyone would say he always had the upperhand.

ip man’s oroblem is: he keeps defending himself rather than attacking.

My brother and I spar with Wing Chun; he is much better than I am. I am aggressive and throw my momentum into the fight, and he almost effortlessly is able to redirect my momentum into his own attacks. As I attack harder he hits harder because the defensive aspect of Wing Chun can direct the offensive of your opponent back at themselves. It's quite interesting, and I have a bit to learn still when it comes to this.

Even if this is a great match, it shows well the difference between the two arts: Wing Chun is good for both offense and defense, it's elegant and balanced; but there is a huge weakness that emerges from this fight: Ip Man goes down with just a few powerful punches, while he had to attack Twister many times before to knock him down which means that Twister's punches are at least twice more powerful that Ip Man's and he's much more durable

​@@bobbys1308 I've never seen a master recognized by Ip's family be beaten by a boxer, although Donnie Yen and Mike Tyson did get together to shoot a movie scene, and Mike's the one who ended up getting hurt during that, not Donnie Yen. Donnie Yen was trained by Ip Man's son, Ip Chun, but that was only briefly and I don't know whether or not Donnie is considered a master by the grandmaster. That said, I have trained Wing Chun for a year, and playing around with a kickboxer friend of mine who has trained for only six months and who weighs fifty pounds more than I do, I have the upper hand 7/10 times.

Xu Xiodong proved certain "masters" were fake, which is very good. I don't really care to argue it, but I'll just put this out there; I spar with guys who weigh fifty pounds more than I do, I use Wing Chun, I have the upper hand over half the time. It seems to work for me, I don't know why that is, since I've been told by lots of people that it does not work. I've also been told that Wing Chun doesn't have anything for grappling and ground work, but Chi Sao translates from the hands to the legs for me. I've only ever trained Wing Chun, so I don't know what explanation to give, but it works for me.

I mean to be fair he didn't hit him when he went down in the first round. He could have jumped him and ended it right there. So when ip man pummelled him whilst on the floor, the wild punch after bell was just getting even. The boxer shouldn't be wearing gloves either.

Ip Man would break his fingers without gloves. Donnie Yen broke Mike Tyson's fingers, because boxers have so much power; the gloves are more of a benefit to the boxer who knows how to use them

The boxer in the movie was the one who was out of line then, because he issued the challenge. It's like a child saying to a marine, "I am just as good or even better than you because I can get the drop on you during airsoft from time to time. I could survive on the front lines" not realizing that airsoft is nowhere near 1:1.

Starring Jackie Chan. Also Enter The Dragon. Starring Bruce Lee. I also read that in Boxing . In the wider definition of the word boxing as being an unarmed duel with certain rules . Or rather in Karate , which means any unarmed combat . I believe, in Japanese . Often in The Far East in places like Thsiland or Hong Kong. The excitement of an unarmed duel is brought about by. The charachters. Perhaps dueling with very few rules. Maybe even fighting To The Death ! But the way that the show is marketed is with a contrast in styles. Like in Thai Boxing an athlete is expected to perform a dance . A silent description of who he is. Where he or she is from. And perhaps some details of the animal he is planning to imitate . To get the win ! The excitement of a Boxer from the West being brought before a Ksrate guy from Japan. Is part of the show. But to be a true fan. I think it's interesting to read The Rules . As most of The Martial Arts have rules which encourage participation and reduce the chances of a fatal injury . Or a life changing injury happening to The Competitors. Of course if the athletes are Slaves. In years gone by. This was common in Europe. But it's not common anymore and. Folks who go to watch Slaves fight to the death are Scum. In my opinion .
