Las Catalinas, Costa Rica | A Walk Through our Car-Free Town | CNU 29

Take a walk through the car-free streets, plazas and trails of Las Catalinas. This virtual walking tour with the on-site design team highlights strategies we've learned over the past 10+ years of design and construction. An arguably radical idea that received pushback even from the initial design team, our walkable town now seems the most natural and preferred way to be.
Car-free public realms invite natural sociability and Kid Freedom that can be enjoyed equally by all. The resulting density allows for more sustainable natural-urban transects. Town's minimal footprint creates a sustainable infrastructure not just for the natural environment, but also for an active and healthy life full of natural, human, and architectural beauty.

My wife and I stayed here several years ago and I have to say that I've never stayed in a place so well thought out and beautiful. The thing about this place is that when as much care and thought are put into a project like this, everything just...fits. My wife and I to this day talk about becoming residents here. We were there for a week about 5-6 years ago and it has occupied a special place in our hearts ever since.

Really beautiful architecture, hardscaping, and landscaping! I wish you had talked more about what is offered within Las Catalinas, in terms of food, shopping, employment, schools, etc.

Lived in Costa Rica for 16 years and never heard of Las Catalinas. Great concept and great execution. Hope to visit and recommend your community to people who want beach living. Congratulations, quite an accomplishment and great for Costa Rica.

Maybe some place in the home for an electric golf cart. Some of us can't walk or it is a chore. I have MS and it is not always easy for me to walk.

I would like more information on your town. How difficult is it for me to get there from Virginia? Also. I did not remember hearing any discussion about hotels, hostels or lodging opportunities. Is it possible to visit for several weeks? Thank you.

Hello Maria, Playa Danta and Dantita are both public, and for everyone to enjoy, as all beaches in Costa Rica.

I see a beautiful place but where are the stores and restaurants for basic needs? Do I have to get in my car to go buy some fruit?

Guess one buys in bulk all groceries … if elderly with health issues, must be a problem to get medical care…!! Costa Rica is a pristine paradise and natives very proud of that… guess construcción would be minimal in order for not to infringe in the forests…!! Need to keep the jungle monkeys happy…!!!
