Laryngeal massage has many names. For example: digital laryngeal massage, laryngeal massage voice therapy, circumlaryngeal massage, vocal cord massage, vocal massage, larynx massage and many more. However, laryngeal massage techniques are all types of massage for singers who have signs of vocal tension.
In this video, I am sharing 5 steps to a “light” version of a self massage. I recommend self massage techniques because you can control the amount of pressure and the length of the massage yourself. Some singers swear by these vocal massage techniques and they either self massage neck on a regular basis or they have their voices worked on for hours in special clinics.
So, watch this video and try this massage for more relaxed throat muscles so that you can sing with ease again!

I want to thank you so much. I would experience tension so much and it was hard to sing high notes without strain. Immediately after doing your exercise I noticed my voice is more relaxed, deeper, and looser. Thank you!

I am in disbelief. I have searched for a cure, for someone to tell me exactly what has been going wrong with my voice for the past six years. I've gone to ENT's, doctors, a vocal coach, who have never been able to properly diagnose my symptoms. I came across your videos and started to recognize that I had all those symptoms you described, and it made sense why I have been having so much trouble with my voice! It wasn't acid reflux like everyone had been saying - it's the muscles!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THESE VIDEOS. You have saved my life. I had lost my hope. And now I've found it again, thanks to you, Katarina!!! I will be asking a few questions in the future, and hope that I will be lucky enough to catch you!!! I love you for being so willing to teach us all what you know. Thank you!!!

Hi Tatiana, it is very nice to meet you and I am glad you found my channel. I am glad that you found the videos helpful. Please, ask questions. I will answer if I know. Regarding your ENTs and doctors: sometimes, doctors don't have enough experience with professional voice users and singers. They may be more general ENTs. So, I would suggest that you look for a specialist - laryngologist or voice specialist that specializes in voice issues.

Ms. Katarina, I have struggled with my voice for longer than I care to admit. Generally, people dont realize how voice is an extension of who you are. I've run across so many resources; Kristin Linklater once said that "You dont want your voice to be heard. You want yourself to be heard". Thank you for helping me not express my voice, but be able to articulate who I am. You are amazing and I am grateful.

It offers quick fixes from glorified drug dealers quite often.. without providing you with real answers.. to where the side effects are worse than any illness you may have had in the beginning. They don't want you to realize that we create our own illness and disease in the body with our thoughts and our words and our programming from childhood, because if you knew that, then you'd realize that you were the one that heals you, your body heals you.❤ the medical system the US is not based on common sense it's based on keeping people in the system and making money😢

Katrina, I want to thank you. The comments are turned off on the "cant stop clearing your throat" vid so I'm doing it here. After a severe covid cough and then continuing to sing in my band, I ended up with a chronically hoarse voice and nonstop throat clearing...for a year! Two weeks ago, I watched your vids...went back to nsaids(at below prescription doses) very monitored "soft" throat clearing, making myself pause for longer and longer periods in between and throat massage...Today I barely cleared my throat! There is very little pain and much, much less tension in my neck. A very deep heartfelt thank you- you are a badass!

Wow thank you so much for this! I was asked to sing in my church choir for Christmas Eve Mass and although I love to sing, I am not trained. I over-practiced a bit and also found that I was carrying so much tension in my throat as Christmas got closer. Now I’m resting my voice but kept feeling tension which made it hurt even when I wasn’t talking or singing at all. This massage just helped release that tension. And I feel like my throat is finally relaxing!

Thank you for your comment. I would suggest to avoid vocal overuse. I know that this is the time when you probably have more practices than ever but that also means that you can preserve your voice in other situations, for example less talking on the phone, less screaming, maybe skipping a party in a loud environment. These are just a few suggestions but you get the point. Preserve your voice whenever possible.

@@healthyvoicetips Thank you for your advice ☺️. I haven't been talking much over the past few days, and I did the massage technique everyday. I also did vocal steaming, which also helps lessen the hoarseness. My voice is about 70% back and we have more practices over the weekend, but will try to take it easy and not force any sound

Hi! I am so glad that the massage technique worked for you! As I said in the video, it is not for everyone but if you are ok with touching your neck and throat, this therapy technique can release a lot of tension from the area. If it really works for you, I would use it on a regular basis. Do you think you will use it before or after singing? And thank you for your very kind words, I really appreciate your lovely comment. If you have any questions, please let me know.

@@healthyvoicetips Thanks for your reply -- so great to hear from you!! And yes, initially I thought it felt strange to massage myself in that area but proceeded slowly and gently and was thrilled with the results!! I was going to use it before singing and hadn't really thought about doing it after as a cooldown but will try that too (it's a good suggestion) :). Thanks and I truly enjoy your valuable insights in your videos.

I am going to try this.. its been two years my voice has changed .. i need so much effort while talking and my voice breaks too.. the docs and ENTs have been giving antacids which relaxed my voice for 2 /3 days only .. then they said dont pay attention to your vocal chords .. they are strained bcoz of stress .. and i need to relax and not stress .. that doesnt work though.. after 2 years of running to docs .. i got you videos by gods grace.. I pray to God this should work for me and I am going to do it.. it is really so strain full for me to speak that i have stopped socialising and talking on phone.. Thanks Katarina .. God bless you for being here 💖

Rohini, I am so very sorry to hear about your vocal issues. Massage is one way to release tension. There are many other ways (you can check my videos on this channel because I talk about them all the time). It is unfortunate that the doctors were not able to give you a more concrete solution. There are very concrete ways to deal with stress that may affect vocal tension but there is way more available to us now.
