That is not how good gamedesign works. Tekken 7 has givin every character different damage because every character has flaws and strenghs. If an Panda would make the same damage as hwoarang for excample, panda could NEVER no matter the Player win against an hwoarang. Because their frames and tools are so different, that the damage would destroy the gamebalance even harder than an pre Patch leroy with 2 livebars. The only safe way is to figure out wich character is op and why. And then fix the reason behind it. The goal should be to make the tier list as small as possible. Not to make every character the same to an point in wich literly all characters are the same, just with an different look. That would be the most boring fighting game ever.

Strangely, this doesn't seem to have hurt Lars' popularity too bad. I've seen him online far more than Bob, who is undeniably better, tier-wise.

David Chu boas a lars main imma tell u that his combo damage is pretty low. If u don’t know what ur doing. But even then. His damage is slightly less than almost every character in the game. But if u have good fundamentals and ur good at the game then it doesn’t matter how much less damage he puts out cuz you’ll be able to get the win. He has a max fangs combo of 70-72 damage and it goes up to about 83 damage with rage. And this is all without wall so if u do have wall then that’s way more damage

I think what he's saying is that the risk Lars puts himself in to deal good damage is not worth the reward. It's hard to get a 70+ damage on Lars without the use of walls or floor breaks considering how easy it is to sidestep most of his combo starters. Even then when you look at other characters like Paul, Gigas, Leo, Alisa, they take even/less skill but can rack up a lot of damage using punishes and pokes with good frames.

I don’t agree about the damage He has an easy 70 dmg combo on all his normal launchers and 72 on all his ch launchers Lars gets 72-76 in open air depending on whether you go for micro-dash combos His only bad launchers are df2 and ur3 which are never his optimal whiff or block punishes. For whiff you use fb21 and for block you use f1+2. Ff1+2 also gets him 67 if you do an easy staple At the wall he gets 90-100 depending on filler. I agree with most of your other critiques but all it takes is a single viewing of any random Lars bnbcombo video to see that Lars averages above 70 for most launches and above 94 for most wall combos. Even in season 1 Lars averaged 66 with most launchers

I seem to be struggling I found that if you just play rush down with him and keep throwing most of his safe moves from his stance people get confused and I always throw in a few throws. He needs better combo damage. Especially since we have to work so hard to get that combo.

Alot of times people get confused because they don lab Lars, and the speed at which the character moves will kinda confuse them. But as said in the video, all his lows are punishable, and Lars is very steppable. So that's where you get the advantage. Ppl just dont know how to counter the character.

@@tommymoodie2157 yeah In speaking of counter's he sucks at that too... Plus I use the hori fight stick for some reason in fighting games I just can't use a pad. So sometimes I miss a direction but it's because I'm old in a grow up in arcades. So stick has always felt more natural to me.

Just gunna make one statement to main mans damage with lars, lars damage is actually above 70 on standard combos the combos shown in the vid aren’t actually optimal combos so don’t read to much in to that damage is actually alright. 14f launch can do 72, orbital can do 78 if I remember right. They honestly sorted damage out for Him to be about where season 3 average is.

Good stuff main man. As a Lars main, I somehow agree with everything in this video. His movelist is terrible and risky for high level plays for some reason. But here's the thing. Not all players are aware of Lars' strengths and weaknesses especially during the fighting phase and I kept that in mind in every matches. High level or not. Reminds me of Lowhigh. He plays Shaheen more but I can tell he has a strong Lars too. Also Only Practice he is a Nina player but his Lars is too Strong. So just like what Arslan Ash said, there is no worst Character cause it all depends on how you use it.

All it takes is for one Pakistan pro to win with this character and he'll start crying for nerfs

Lars neutral is awful he only has 1, df1 b1 2,1 f3,1 everything is simply not gonna help you poke. He always loses his turn otherwise he can barely get into dynamic and silent entry is too obvious at high level without being interrupted. “You have a backlash” that thing is slow as fuck it’s also -9 block while Hwoarang is faster and plus on block. Also Akuma has an unbreakable air grab which Lars has one too but guess what you can break it with 1+2 like come on. Why does ff1+2 not allow screw on ch when it’s not a screw move ??? Lars season 4 need more transitions out of moves like 2,1 and a better rage drive that isn’t locked behind his stances.

Hwoarangs backlash is reactable and lars SEN 4 isnt, its a good tool out of SEN but the transitions into it are not great. The only counter to it is ducking which he needed if SEN would be more accessable. At least he can now transition from DEN into SEN.

I’ve been saying this since the beginning of T7. Lars offense is a joke. Crazy how changing movement and removed 1 move and he’s bottom tier. He got buffed in every other way since the release of T7

I have to say his old df2 was broken, being able to use that move from crouch it's a way to avoid spam. Still I don't think it's terrible you can do great mixups with that. Lars is an honest character, the only honest character really.

I’ve been playing Lars since the beginning of Tekken Tag 2. The best parts of his tool set are about high crushing, whif punishing, and high risk high reward 50/50s. the worst parts of his tool set are how punishable he is, how slow some of his 50/50s are, and how he has to play more reckless to receive the damage output that most characters can already do while still playing relatively safe. Still, playing Lars as a main for so many years really taught me how to play better (being so underpowered with a low tier character in T7). I hope they give him buffs but I’m nit complaining about his current state either.

the missing puzzle in Lars gameplay is allowing his high/mid attacks to give him many plus frames on hit or block.. this way his the barrier to access his stances or demanding input moves can be more easier by utilizing the plus frames..

All Lars would need is a -12 on block + on hit low from standing, buff his b1 by making it at least +6, and then make b4 a CH launcher and he would be fine in my opinion. Of course other stuff would help

It does go into training mode and try all wake up options against stomp after ch d2. The combo counter won’t show it but it’s completely garaunteed if you do it quickly after the knockdown. Ff1+2, f1+2(shoulder) and a number of other mids are also guaranteed but only if the opponent tries to move or get up

@@regmatshiya1437 stomp is not garanteed , they can get up and and block The best thing i found to do after a Ch D2 , is another D2 , it Will hit grounded doesnt matter what they try , and even if they do get up and block it , youre at neutral and can go for a counter hit 1,1,1 (or 2,1 to stay safe)

God of Demência maybe I’m wrong when I was in training I found that if you do it quickly then no matter what the cpu is set to it’ll hit. Unlike the df1+2 powercrush where if the cpu is set to crouch guard and get up backwards it will always block the stomp. With D2 it doesn’t manage to do that. You might be right since the Tekken cpu is inconsistent but from what I’ve seen if you do shoulder when they’re trying to get up it hits and if you do stomp no matter what the situation it’ll hit. Online if I do it fast I’ve yet to see someone block it but that might just be people not knowing the matchup.

jcmds2 ya that I really hate. Because sometimes you do the moves planning to go into full crouch and you get the ch but can’t capitalize on it with stomp. Leo has a similar move in d1 but his is minus 3 and a ch launchers. What makes his better is that he gets a full combo whether he goes into full crouch or not

gonna chime in with the overkill gigas throw. it works like a sudo mad axes where you can do some movement before you hit the f, 1+2 so you can dash/backdash/sidestep before you connect the throw when you do the first inputs of the throw

Lars has enormous combo damage. His fc df2 does 95 damage without Walls. His bnb for most standard launchers gives 74, 72 if you end with sen df1 for oki. And to add to this, it’s extremely easy to convert to the wall at any stage during the combo.

@@tl_nik0n353 You can get that damage but requires 2 micro sidesteps so you can set up the gaurenteed d1+2 at the end of the combo. If you mess uo your sidesteps however you drop the whole thing

When big majin brought a shirt that says buff Lars against porkchop, I believed it.

Tactics against Lars, do a muscle memorized low parry into ws after each of his jabs or do a low parry into normal block, works on 99% of his strings, which in case he goes for, you block and punish.

MMS! Love your content and been watching for years... I have an interesting topic - I was recently visiting family and went to play T7 with another. As the 3.33 update was downloading, we needed to format the game, and went all the way back to the release version. After playing a few games like this, it felt “clean and correct”, but after installing the current version many of the bugs(?) that I am currently frustrated with we’re back! Weird hurt boxes, ridiculous ground hits, input lag on tech rolls that force you to just lay there. If you’re interested, it would be cool to make a video comparing the overall gameplay between release and now. I feel more and more they are breaking an originally awesome game!!!

Yup that's my main since S1. I've gotten my ass kicked all around this game but I still improve where I can. Ranked can be incredibly stressful tho because it honestly feels like you're trying to win a gun fight with only a knife, but my Lars is pretty solid.

We probably aren't going to get better movement, but what I think Lars needs is some range tweaks on his launchers, some less risky lows, and a new standing CH launcher, maybe a new plus on block move. For his lows, either db13 needs to go for a new -13 low (maybe something similar to Hei's DB2) or make his other lows less risky like FF43 being -14 with less damage, and maybe his db4 be made a true snake edge with tracking and natural launch but keep the frames as is. B4 is decent but I can't tell you how many times I've had that move miss at odd angles and even some close ranges for whiff punishes. They should fix the hitbox on that thing.

I don't need B4 to launch since i like the attack throw. But it should have way better frames, more dmg and maybe track to his right. His stance lows should be safer on block and fcdf2 should do more dmg and be faster. Yeah and a second RD that is good (Should be his old df2 with the input df2+3), also better df4 that is an alternative to his df1.

Yeah you definitely don't play Lars. If you do you cannot be good with him thinking he's being downplayed in any shape or fashion.

I think a good way to make him distinct and kinda good, is to make him more mobile in. every aspect. In that case his lacklustre damage is balanced by his mobility

You can enter FC with d+2 and holding down. Neutral on block. It's a nice trick I use.

Optimal combo of orbital is DE 2 then df 3 to SE 1 then you bound

Do this: on wiff punish use B3,4> SE3(on block/block stun)> DF3,3(SE1, >staple combo if opponent hits the wall) or >SE2+3> F1+4. Like 68-70 damage. And always use D2 on wake up. It's like Heihachi's F4 on block. Good Knockdown pressure. As a seriously good Lars main. I'm really starting to feel the burn here. And it really sucks to have to work that hard this character is very limited. I'm going to Main Marduk again for a while, til something good happens for Lars. Hell maybe even Negan and Akuma.

My hopes for lars is that b4 gets a speed and range buff (pretty much become a weaker Kazuya df2 since you'll keep the 55 dmg limit) and his movement gets buffed. I'd think he'd be a solid character after that change. I like the character being defensive and having to take risk for offense, but there is nothing about his offense to respect. He literally gets shut down by jab and df1.( something everyone has) If you really want to make me happy, making df2 ->f SE a thing on block would be great. At this point they gotta give him either a CH launch or increased mix up potential in order to keep up with the cast.

We should have a set of main man playing gigas vs tendo or majin playing lars. For science.

Well, I understand this video is based on his opinions about Lars. It is true that the character isn't oppressive when it comes to his offense. Mainman said it himself said that Lars' defensive tools are decent. So wouldn't that mean Lars is better suited for defensive play? Pester the opponent with pokes to get a reaction, and then go from there? Turtling with Lars and mounting an assault when the opportunity arises is the general strategy. And I agree his CH game in the neutral is lacking, but it doesn't make him the worst character in the game. Personally, I think he's fine the way he is--but some buffs would be beneficial. -- His d/f+4 could be armed with a CH property. -- Bringing back his old 1+2 would be useful. It has some high crushing perks, and it's cancellable. Work in some mind games. -- Making d/f+2,1 hit confirmable. -- His d/b+1,3 (d/b+1,3~D) can atleast be 0 or +2 on hit.

I've never played Lars defensively. He's poke-heavy and then gets really long combos after launch. I do think Tekken 7 railroaded his character somewhat and forces me to play a specific way, compared to the diverse and varied methodology I applied in Tekken Tag 2.

i think tekken 7 lars was he's strongest in combo because of the distance combo string that gave him alot of combo opportunity in dynamic entry

How do you beat an aggressive Hwoarang? As a low rank Revered Ruler, I feel a little hopeless playing against an agressive Hwoarang.

Im a Lars main even tho my Main is Drag, and lars is my sub i like just lars more. So in this comment im gonna type three buffs i would favor in season 4. He needs more buffs then just three but still these three could be a good help to him. 1. I would say that lars should get a cancel from silent entry, because if the enemy is in rage while you are in silent entry he can just throw out a RA and youre gonna take 55 dmg or more from that RA or the RA from Paul boi oh boi its gonna hurt. Also his cancel from silent entry would help him to do more mix up or helps him to go in his FC mix up. So basicly what im trying to tell in this comment is that Lars should get a cancel from silent entry to help him at his mix ups. 2. He just needs some tracking move that in his stands or in his normal standing like his old b2,1 from tekken 6 or his old 1,2 that tracked, etc. just a move that tracks and fast with some dmg i would say. 3. I would change his FC df2 into his standing df2 and his standing df2 into his FC df2 so he has his old move again but also his new move in FC so he can still do a mix up from FC and that mix up could be even stronger then his mix up now. So these are my buffs for season 4 to lars he needs more like i sayed but i think these three should help. Thanl you for reading and have a nice day. :D

When I decided in season 1 to play my mains, Hwo, Asu, Lars, Jin, (Anna later, when she got added). I noticed how weak Lars' dmg is, it really disappointed me to the point where I felt like playing T6 and TTT2 again just to feel that Lars was *something* back in the day.

Wtf........ haha. Wait till I pick this man up. I need a secondary male character and the pressure theory I was coming up with satisfied me. I think he’s deadly af. The fact he has a hellsweep from dynamic entry which can be sidestepped cancelled means he has a good conditioning game and it can be delayed and he has a plus frame mid or high kick from dynamic entry too. I’m a xiaoyu and zafina main so I like to play other characters just as tricky and when I was testing him I absolutely adored him and don’t know why he’s considered weak. Also in full crouch you don’t have to go into the generic 1+2 plus one on hit low , why not crouch cancel into dynamic entry? Be unpredictable. Everyone is scary if used correctly

Im gonna have to disagree on lars damage, lars can get 67-68 damage from every launcher if your combos are optimized
