Holmes had trouble against Williams cause they had the same style.

Holmes at this point was a shot fighter. The loss to Spinks in his next fight was inevitable.

Watched the entire fight many times, Williams won no doubt, and he messed up Holmes face too.

Holmes was 35 and past his best and still whooped an undefeated champ in carl Williams. Just shows how great Holmes really was.

William wasn't fighting to win but to impress the audience

Carl won this fight....rest in peace Williams

Holmes appeared heavier than His normal weight. Carl laid off of Holmes in the closing rounds and eased off the pedal. Never understood this. It was a draw in my opinion and a rematch would have been a dandy payday for both.

Williams won, he messed up Holmes'face like nobody else did before, but at this match , he is an inexperienced novice, who Holmes mistakenly thought would be no problem for him. Holmes had a record of NEVER giving rematches to dangerous opponents who he luckily escaped with a controversial/debatable decision, who he knows can beat him in a rematch. In this case, he would rather fight Michael Spinks next,who is a bigger more marketable name, but a lightheavyweight who can weigh-in as low as 170 pounds for his fights, and thought(wrongly) that he will be easier to beat than Williams

Somewhere between the 9th and 12th round Holmes hit Williams with a body shot that changed the fight.

I thought Carl won. And by the time Holmes fought Michael Spinks he barely had anything left when it came to fighting at a higher level. He should have quit right after this fight, the hell with trying to break Marciano's undefeated record.

Judging by this highlight Williams definitely won the fight.

143-142 Larry Holmes win

Williams wins.....no doubt of that.....I think this was umpires match.....they might have betted heavily on Holmes and would have been on the road.....had the decision gone to Williams.

I watched the whole fight. Williams won by at least two rounds.

Based on Highlights the Truth won but that Holmes looked good for a 10 year age gap. People underestimate the stamina,strength and mental state of mind differences!

I met Carl Williams after the Tyson-Stewart bout in A.C. He was a gentleman and a pleasure to talk and have dinner with. When I told him I thought he had been robbed, he smiled and said "Hey, the judges score it how they see it. I needed to at least knock Holmes down to have a chance. So yeah, he won the fight". Carl Williams is a class act, and I hope he is alive and well. I also think he was very wary of Tyson's KO power. Stewart was terrified of Tyson. Rd. 1 KO.

@@57curtnevan Carl Williams died of cancer in 2013. It was the same year that Ken Norton and Tommy Morrison died. They were great fighters and good men. May they rest in peace. Carl's life was tragic given that he died way before his time and after already suffering the death of his daughter Nijah. His other two kids and widowed wife are still alive.

Yep, it was close, but Holmes deservedly got the nod!

It was close, but Larry rightfully got the nod because he did a little more than Williams.

I remember this fight I still feel Larry Holmes lost this Fight. a draw at the most Carl Williams also beat George Foreman
