I've said it before and I'll say it again, when I was 13 I saw on a TV sports show that asked Larry Holmes a question about what young boxers should do with their winning purses after taxes. He said, "Buy land, God doesn't make it anymore." Realest shit ever.,

I met Mr. Holmes while working at the oldest & first juvenile center in the World, the Illinois Youth Center St. Charles back in the 90's. I think he was the owner or one of the investors in the Charlestown Mall in St. Charles, IL back in the 1990s. He signed a pair of boxing gloves that were displayed in the Recreation Center where I was stationed. Also, met Marvis Frazier there too! Great Human beings!

@Tom Burkart Holmes being a better man and boxer than Tyson? I think both fighters in their prime run neck to neck in their effectiveness to defeat their opponents. There is much that can be said. It can be said Tyson is explosive and undoubtedly the most dominant knockout king ever to be heavy weight champion. Holmes could be seen as better because he fought more challenging opponents and fought in longer fights and i think had a better record. It think they are on the same level both having the same number of different strengths and weaknesses. As far as who is a better man. I have always been careful not to judge a man especially when I have not walked in their shoes. I believe both men have made the most of the opportunities presented to them and both have overcame plenty of personal challenges and enjoyed triumphs as well. I think they are both examples of great men one can be inspired by. If you get a chance Check out Hot Boxing with Mike Tyson here on KZread. I think it will give you a great overlay into the man Mike Tyson has become.

I respect how great a boxer this man was but whenever he starts talking about other boxers and putting them down I detect an unpleasant undertone in this man's personality. He is just not a charmer. Ali could make outrageous comments and would find yourself laughing and saying, "Ali is right". LH starts putting people down and I start thinking what is wrong with this guy. I can't put my finger on it but it's there. Take the "butterbean" remarks. Everyone and anyone who knows boxing knows that BB was not a great fighter on the level of a Larry Holmes. Yes BB could knock you or anyone out but against a great top level fighter like LH there was just no chance that BB would do that. Nevertheless boxing is entertainment and in funny way it was an entertaining fight. Now Larry for some reason took BB's remarks seriously and has to get into it here in the interview and start yapping about it here in the interview. Really? Buttertub? bothered you? Mike Tyson bothered you? Ali bothered you? A dead guy Rocky Marciano bothered you? I remembered when he lost the Tyson fight. Larry hated the fact that Tyson was so popular. So 20 years later Holmes is saying in some interview with Brian Kenney? that except for that "lucky shot" he was beating Tyson and if "my arm didn't get in the ropes I would have won". Why not just say "maybe a younger LH would have beat him but he knocked me out". I think Teddy Atlas was on the show and he was looking at LH like what a butthole and Teddy was not fond of Tyson. Everytime there some minor issue LH goes on about how bad the other fighter was or how fat or slow or stupid. No one ever had it as tough as Larry, blah blah blah. He beat on Ali and took a paycheck from it but he only did it cause the referee made him. Here is the take away on Larry. I am never wrong, I never did anything wrong. Everyone else always wronged me. They are all the worst POS. After a while you say I can't take this bitter, angry guy anymore and just click the YTube button.
