I remember my first viewing of "Late Night" in the summer of 1983. Author James Clavell was the announced guest, and this guy strutted out, posed imperiously in front of a giant mock-up of the cover of "Shogun," and then proceeded to denounce David for his weak questions and failure to understand his writing. Then he broke into tears and called himself a "sham." I thought it was horrible to witness this breakdown, but couldn't look away. Everyone else knew it was Bud, but not me, cause I never saw the show before. I was a loyal viewer for years, and always awaited the great sham author's next appearance. Larry was the king.

Best. Episode. Ever! Best part on his first appearance was when they’re about to get started and Sylver is concerned about a couple of the volunteers and Dave frustratingly just kinda waves his hand and says, _”...nobody’s buying this anyway!”_ And nobody was, then or the second time. Dave did interrupt a lot, but the whole act was nonsense! 😒
