UNBELIEVABLY FUNNY. I love comedians who focus on anti-humor like Neil Hamburger, but none of those guys can approach someone like Calvert DeForest, who's really not playing a role at all--just having some trouble loll. It's like Dave and the Late Night team decided not to let Calvert rehearse or even read his lines beforehand because they knew how naturally funny/charming the guy is when left to fend for himself on camera.

This was a great summary of the brilliance of the Calvert bits ... I write 12 years after it was posted. If Scooby Donkers is still roaming this Earthly plane, kudos.

Calvert having some trouble, yes. But also the quick wit of Dave to play off whatever mistake was made. A great team.

Larry’s clumsiness is what kept him on the show

Fun and indormative., shared to Nacho Pesos personal user Facebook account today. Late 1980s I'd begun years of 2nd shift work.

tbh dave himself was never funny. he would just stare into the camera or roll his tongue in his mouth to give the audience the cue to laugh.

I don't agree with David's political views, however he's is the best late night host second only to Johnny Carson for with and ability to make magic out of anything. Larry "Bud" Melman, RULES!!!!!

Chris Elliot and Larry "Bud" Melman were comedy geniuses on a equal footing. But Chris had to work 24 /7 to get his bits right while Larry was pretty much a natural.

division...he WAS the second best. But no one that watched Late Night could POSSIBLY be happy with the garbage that Dave has put out for hte last 10+ years. The stuff he begs for laughs with now are the kind of things that he would mock his LAte Night audience for laughing at. ("You people are just STARVED for entertainment" was a common line Dave would say when the audience laughed at crap.) Will it Float is not comedy. Nor does anyone want a "Ventriloquist Week" in the 21st Century.
