Growing up in Larrys hometown you hear all kinds of storys. Once the man that told me this story was playing a game of pickup ball with Larry's brothers in West Baden, Indiana. Larry drives up and out of boredom bets his youngest brother $100 he's going to hit a three. For the fun of it Eddie took him on as Larry swishes the three. Larry doubles down on it saying $200 he can make a half courter. Thinking no way Eddie takes it as Larry swishes it once again. He then doubles down again on another shot before Eddie had to back out. Larry loved betting on himself because he knew he could back it up. He lived for those moments.

I loved Larry Bird. I think he brought pro basketball back.I would be remiss to not include Magic Johnson. I love to watch both of them It is not the same game without them. I do not watch pro ball anymore. It is just not the same. To much politics in basketball . All I want is basketball players to play basketball.

Larry was slow, but he also moved so efficiently that it looked weird. He had no wasted movement and always seemed to mentally be 1-2 steps ahead of his competition, no matter who it was. He isnt the best, but he was one of the greats. Still one of the most unique players in the game

For an all too brief amount of time, Larry was so much better than everyone else in the league that even his opponents were entertained. The Atlanta Hawks bench got fined for rolling over and laughing after Larry said "3 pointer, trainer's lap", and then went out, made a 3, got fouled, and ended up in the trainer's lap. I can't think of any other player that ever did that. And he did stuff like that pretty much every game. Certainly the most entertaining player I ever saw.

His no look passing game was so tight. As kids we would try to imitate him. Those were some great days

People that never saw him play look at him, the mediocre body, the limited athletic skill set and the short shorts and just assume he wasn’t shit. Man was a killer, one of a kind.

A person like Larry Bird was a once in a lifetime phenomenon for the NBA and basketball!!!Some may not rank him the best ever but he was the most unique person in my lifetime of 71 years to play the game.More MJ’s Kobe’s and Le Bron’s will be forthcoming again.I doubt I will ever see a character like Larry Bird in the NBA ever again!!!I don’t follow or like basketball that much but Larry had the personality that would make someone want to see him operate like a master surgeon on the basketball floor.He is definitely number 1 in being the most fun to watch player!!!!

I was at the game when he hit the game winner against the Bullets. It was the second game of the '87-'88 regular season at the Capital Centre. I was there with my mother and brother. We went crazy when Bird hit the shot. What a fun memory.

Larry was an incredible player, period. It's disrespectful as HELL when people try and say he was good" for a white guy". LoL.. larry was an equal opportunity destroyer.

He played for Indiana State University and all he had was a guard that was semi proficient. they go to the NCAA finals against Michigan State who had Ervin Johnson plus 2 other guys who were drafted and damn near won the whole thing.

Magic tells a story about visiting Larry @ his childhood home. Larry ignored him so hard Larry's mom invited Magic to dinner, made Larry eat with them. Magic tells it better and enjoys the telling.

I remember watching the NBA back then on Sunday afternoons when they played the games of the week. Those guys never missed when they were open...that is why the league was so physical...it was the only way to get a player to miss!

What a legendary era .... Before Jordan took over the league & went on his run. Celtics vs Lakers was can't miss TV... Larry, McHale, Parrish - Magic, Kareem, Worthy... They had some great battles with the Philly too... Dr J & Moses.!!! Isiah, Barkley, Dominique & so many other HOF .!! I miss that NBA..

NEVER missed those games. It was a nail-biting finish almost every time because the guys on those teams never quit. The players were men you could respect.

You had to see it to believe it. For a slow guy with not much quickness or pure athleticism ..... he was simply one of the very best players who ever stepped on a basketball court in the history of basketball. His talents were immeasurable. At times you would not believe what you were seeing.

That’s what I say about Luka Doncic. Larry’s one of those guys who would DESTROY people no matter what league he played in. Literally makes no sense when you watch him. He’s just that good!

He wasn't that slow, his quickness was so bad he faked out everyone, and athleticism is more than verticals

I grew up in the greatest era and witness Lakers Celtics rivalry, I was definitely a laker fan magic, worthy was my favorite at the time, Cooper Kareem, hating on those Celtics, but growing up and maturing I realized how truly great he was.Bird was a stone cold killer court awareness was unreal. The LeBron Era guys could not hold a candle to these guys.These guys would school all these iso one on one dunkers, with no ball skills

6:57. The Larry Bird, Chuck Person clips might be the best of the best. Chuck scores 16 in a row then Larry scores, blocks him and trash talks. As good as it gets.

That story with Byron Scott I've heard told by Xavier McDaniel when he was playing against the Celtics. Exact same story. Not only did Larry Bird do that, but he did it twice. What a savage.

For the people who didn't actually see Larry play, & only relive the highlights, they have no idea what they missed! The game has changed over the years, its much different today then the rougher game of the 80s, but for the doubters- Magic Johnson said Larry was the ONLY player in the league he truly feared! Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the all time leading scorer, said Larry was the best player he ever played against, he was unstoppable! & Isaiah Thomas said his mother-in-law called Larry's shots silent death, Larry Leagend is truly one of a kind!

I think most people would agree that Larry Bird was the most agitating,cavalier, yet successful basketball players to ever play the game!

Basketball in the 80’s and early 90’s was at its pinnacle.

Bird is higher on the GOAT list than LeBron, he also deserves far more respect for what he and magic did. LeBron isn't what he is without bird.

I just love Larry and how he rips everyone but they all respect and or love him

Larry's Basketball IQ and confidence is still the best all time. Without a doubt one of the top 5 players of all time. There will never be another Larry Bird.
