    Larloch is my favorite Lich in DnD. His pursuit of "Leave me alone and let me study cool magic stuff" is admirable.

    @DarkEnigma11155 жыл бұрын

    It wasn't mentioned that the reason Szass Tam survived Thay's assault on Larloch is because he did not directly confront Larloch. And that Larloch doesn't have Lich followers, he has magically enslaved Liches, and during one occasion, he set free the wills of 60 of them (he had 200 lich slaves at the time) and unleashed them just to see what they would do. Also, he has a contingency spell for EVERY situation you could think of. He has contingency spells for when those contingency spells fail, glyphs of warding for when contingencies are not enough, and Lich slaves at his beck and call to cast Wish for him in case none of those work. He most likely has items for when the weave breaks again and he can't cast spells.

    @@nvfury13 Not really, 3.5 had epic levels where you just keep taking levels. Sure Larloch has enough magical prowess that he could probably duel a God (like Tiamat, but he'd lose against Mystra because in 3.5 Mystra can just say no you have no magic.) But he doesn't have worshippers, and he doesn't have the ability to grant spells so he isn't a God by DnD standards. Could he obliterate all life on the planet probably. Could he crack it possible. Could he duel Eliminster and several of the Seven Sisters when they were at their full power probably. So in essence no one should ever piss this man off.

    unless the pc's have their own lvl 20 wizard and have been preparing to take larloch down for a century at least, the lich should have batman levels of pulling items and plan b's out of his ass that he'd be simply impossible to take down. really that goes for any super intellect immortal being. get some players that just loooooove theory crafting and spend your time out of game making plans and counter-plans until the dm cant find a way to sensibly beat your plan. then run your campaign finale with your month long concocted master strategy and see how the dice or missed details may fuck it up. man i'd fucking love to end a game like that.

    Larlock can be " killed", but given that he's a 2000 yr old epic Netherese Archmage Lich, caster level 30+, with access to major artifacts and scores of additional Lich spellcaster- slaves, he's extremely difficult to permanently destroy. Even Sazz Tam treats him deferentially- need you any more proof of his power ?

    In Annotated Elminster, Ed Greenwood sated that Larloch was probably a level 46 Lich... That was in 3.0 around 1374. I assume that later at the end of the Herald, that he was substantially higher level and probably with a bunch of templates. Larloch is one of the very few Chosen of Mystryl... Others theorized being: The Srinshee and Ioulaum. All are above level 40 mages. (again this is 3.X rules, but no matter the rules, they are epically powerful)! We would love to see a video on both The Srinshee and Ioulaum! They are super cool and have great lore. Again in Annotated Elminter, Ed Greenwood says the Srinshee is a level 54 mage... Probably the most powerful spellcaster, in pure magical output, in the entire Realmspace! Thanks for great content!!!

    I have to correct you: Larloch is not the oldest non-dragon thing in Faerün. Halaster the Black is a Imaskar Artificer, whose real name is Halither. He's was there and was a powerful artificer in -3900DR. The Srinshee is an ancient elf. She was ancient when the Mythal over Myth Drannor was erected in 261DR. She had apparently lived in Sharrven. An elven city which was destroyed in -2700 Ioulaum is far older than Larloch and resides somewhere in Underdark. Ioulaum was born in -3315DR. And was an Arch Netherese Archanist when Larloch was born. Arthindol the Terraseer is a Sarrukh lich and about 25000 years old. ... These are just off the top of my head! Larloch is about 2000 years old... not that much!

I had no idea it was Larloch who resides in that castle not far from Trollbark Forest! One of my earliest characters has this awkward transition in their ongoing sequential origin story so I figured oh Warlock's Crypt in SCAG when they were younger and foolhardy decided to venture there or foolishly seek revenge and got wounded and saved nearby and then are now wiser and more trained!

    Well, maybe it is better to say magic stopped working as it had. Enchantments stopped working mostly because the force behind the weave was unchained. Not because all enchantment was undone. So either lichdom is magical in a way that technically doesn't need the weave afterwards or a lich will reanimate as usual once the magic stablized.

    silverfire is magical energy Mystra gave to her chosen , this energy helps them heal (i believe it is part of her own divine energy, but i could be wrong). each the chosen learns how to use this energy to do various things, and when it manifests, it looks like fire, but has silver colors.. hence the name bluefire is the result of the weave and the shadow weave colliding, it happened when Mystra was assassinated. not even Ao could stop this fire since its origins were from a place outside of the part of existence where he has authority.

    Even a party of high optimized level 20s should not be able to take out Larloch. Ed Greenwood has stated multiple times that he's always supposed to be more powerful than the adventures... He also stated in Annotated Elminster, that Larloch is probably a level 47 mage. And this was back in 1372... now, he's probably higher level. Only one more powerful according to Ed Greenwood is the Srinshee, who is level 54 mage!

    Szass Tam talked with King Lorlach after the other Red Wizards, without authorization attacked Lorlach. Szass traded some items from Lorlachs old floating city for a couple of old Nethril artifacts one of them being the orb and the other a throne or chair ... Lorlach is immensely more powerful than Szass, so it begs the question who is Szass working for ... a bardic lore (3.5e) check of 20 or higher reveals that Szass is easily in control of all the other Zulkirs of Thay (various wizard specialist ) ...... This could be whoever the DM wishes I went with one of the few other liches (demi lich) on the same level , Ythazz Buvaar (the first Zulkir and founder of Thay ) , of course if you are running 5e Acererak might be easier and point of order , . Orbedal was a floating city of High Nethril, according to ancient scribes the floating city of peace and light. Larloch didn't go back to his original city after it crashed because it flipped upside down and Arthindol the Terraseer is like 34,000 years old by the time 3e came out (Arthindol is the guy who told Karsus in -345 "Mystryl was about to face her greatest challenge..." ) A great video BTW

    Personally I make it somewhat easy for PC's to travel from "Forgotten Realms" to "Oerth" , so very interesting things happened , such as Eliminster , Mordenkainen, Melf and The Srinshee having a sit down , Acererak in possesion the "eye of vecna" , the Scarlet brotherhood and Wizards of Thay working together. Of course it does cause a slight shake up in how gods function and a few other few oddities (such as a high king of dwarves in each world, but only one axe of dwarvish lords )

Larloch found him years after defeated him and bound him to servitude. Larloch gave the Orb and Tharkosils Seat to Szass Tam. forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Death_Moon_Orb Tam attempted to use the Orb to force Eltab into the Seat . @@EvelynNdenial I was going by the FR wiki and in it Tam told Larloch that the ones who came before him were inept, which could imply that Tam was the last one to fight him (perhaps standing back and observing or something) or that they went in by themselves over several years, which I do like the idea of- that it was some sort of challenge that various Red Wizards undertook and Tam succeeded where they failed by, instead of fighting Larloch and likely dying, realising that he could be bargained with. Which I also find appropriate for the type of bastard Tam is.

    Jorphdan If you ever get to the bottom of your idea pool you could also make a series about the map itself. That I think would be the most useful for startup Gms like myself. Introducing us to the entire map, zooming in on the largest and most influential places for some background, and then talking about smaller cities and countries and where they are relativ to the other major locations. Being able to look at the map and know some of the names on it and a little about the recent events there is key to really selling your players the idea that the game is an actual place with consequences and history
