    Yep, at the start of the video I guessed that the CRKT tomahawk would perform better than the Cold Steel ones. The Kangee and Chogan are both awesome, especially for the price. :)

    Give me the Cold Steel wooden handle hawks anyday. I love them. Their ability to be modified to suit the owner without ruining it is a plus imho.

    I love these videos. It's great to be able to compare performances on somebody else's dime. Thanks Tactical! Any interest in the Estwing double bit axe? I know they call it an axe but it really is hawk sized. Only weighs a bit more than the woods Kangee and Chogan but doesn't feel like it because it's more balanced. The double bit makes it head heavy enough to be a better chopper than any other full tang options I've tried and it looks medieval as shit which is always a nice bonus, lol.

    The spike hawk and crkt seemed to get similiar results to me. But you have to remember the cold steel is nearly half the price with bigger selection of hawks. Im more of a pipe hawk person but cant go wrong with either. Any chance you try the riflemen's hawk?? Its a more traditional tomahawk with a bigger axe head.

    I'm kinda disappointed not to see the rifleman hawk in this video, but then again it doesn't have a spike on it. Maybe there could be another match up with hammer hawks

  • @SeemsLogical
    @SeemsLogical4 жыл бұрын

    The Kangee is identical to the Chogan only that the Kangee has a spike and the Chogan had the hammer. I can see practical uses for the hammer (nailing in tent spikes, smashing open walnuts, cracking stones, etc) but cannot really see the practical uses for the spike other than as an ice breaker. Is the Kangee supposed to be the tactical weaponized version of the Chogan or is there something I am missing on choosing a spike over a hammer?

  • @ExplosiveFetus

    Do the CRKT hawks have the same diameter eye as the Cold Steels? I've been thinking about getting a Chogan and putting it on a 30" CS War Hammer handle.

    The polypropolene handle is actually pretty unlikely to break from what I can tell with cold steel's test vids. They ran over one of the bats they make with a truck and yeah it bent, but it popped right back in place after whacking it on the sidewalk.

    Say Heah Tac't, Yeah, I did Ok checking new area's out this summer, and my 2Hawks Warbeast came along on a few of them trips. Your right. A Tomahawk is a all around tool for such a lite tool. I processed almost as much wood with it, As I did with some of my Hatchets, But this is the time I start bringing my heavier hitters like my 17" Hultafors Bruks Agdor Hatchet, and the likes of my g. B. Small Forest Axe, Since there's still alot of scouting time left this season, So I still try to lite. Also my Nessmuk copy 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet was a pleasure as a on person carry lightweight that punches like a heavyweight. But also I put to use some of my Khukuris and Kukuri to the task, Oh, and I'm starting to get into my Ratweiler, What a Beast. Talk about weight, No wonder it's a killa choppa. But it's a workout just lugging that one around all day. Your a pretty lucky man, Nice toys, a nice Mzzzz, and especially a nice playground. I have to travel mid State to an area called the Tri-County, Then I'm in heaven all the way down to the starts of the Appalachian, Maybe some day we can hit the Trail, The test was kewl Beanz, Thanx Tac't

    Good videos Tac! I wouldn't trust the trench hawk any kind of wilderness use. Its better for tactical applications, recreational use or as a wall hanger. The other two are definitely winners in my book. Im excited to get my CRKT chogan woods hawk. If you fashioned a longer handle on the CRKT hawk, imagine the power and capabilities with that thing!

    Imagine the CS Spikehawk with a 30" handle ?? Yeah. Cs sells 30" handles that fits the Hawks. The 30" handles are for the cs Warhammer & Viking Hand Axe. PM101 placed a 30" handle on the Rifleman's Hawk and it was an absolute beast with Power & Weight...

    whats up tactical. Love your videos. Don't take this as criticism or me saying you don't know what your talking about, i love these tomahawk videos your doing, i have to say though that you seemed worried about the handle on the trench hawk. i'm sure you figured it out but your absolutely not going to break that handle, polypropylene is Armageddon strong, it will for sure not break from chopping some wood, its a material made to flex to keep it from doing exactly that, breaking. I have the kangee and trench and have tortured both, i love both, but if you were in the wilds and lost for a long enough period of time, the weather would eventually get to the wooden handles, but not the polypropylene. Its not going to break or deteriorate. Keep the videos coming, love em.

    korydreagan lol, don't believe the marketing hype. The handle on the trench hawk is WELL known to break right at the bottom of the groove where the blade sits when flexed. Which is why they sell cheap replacements. I'm on my second one personally, and LOTS of reviews have described it breaking in the exact same place. A cousin of mine also has a bunch of Cold Steel training swords made of poly and he has broken a few of those too. It is not "indestructable" or even "armageddon strong". Just a decent, and cheap material that is cheap to replace, which is good because if you use it hard, you'll probably need to. It's also prone to air bubbles in the material which weaken it more.

  • @brianmccann666

    Yeah the trench hawk handle will break. It will dry-rot also. Depends where you're at. I'm in Florida. Only metal does not dry-rot. But it rusts like hell in Florida.

    I watched all three of your "shootout" videos and came to the conclusion that CRKT puts out a solid product no matter what size you opt for. Their large hawks are above the standard of other similar sized tomahawks but their small sized tomahawk punches way above its size. SOG is below average in all categories, Cold Steel is your best bet for a purchase buy and United Cutlery is your least favorite brand, though you will concede that the M48 is a surprisingly decent product from an otherwise crappy company.

    The trail hawk blade is much different from the spike hawk blade though. Thinner, smaller edge, lighter... You test more of the CS- tomahawks out though. The blade geometry on each is different and do various things better or worse than each other. Just look st that Norse Hawk. You can thrust attack with the point. The blade is like a ULU knife blade and useful for many tasks. Cold steel has a great sale going at their special projects site ... www.LTSPECRO.com
