This was a really special episode, as my grandfather used to work a lot in the forest. And their axes was always a pride to them, they would always have a personal axe this size called a Kvistyxa (Or just kvistyx in my accent), wich basically was a universal tool. And also a bigger axe for the acutal treecutting, but that was usually an axe that the whole "team" would buy together. And you can tell that it's a proper kvistyx by the way the head is made to be thinning much closer to the shaft than a cutting or chopping axe. That way ,when combined with high quality steel, they could make precision cuts and the axe itself would stay sharper for longer periods of time. My grandfather bought an axe that is the same model as this (but different brand) about 70 years ago, and my father still uses it today, albeit with a newer handle. Anyways, thanks for a great review!

One more fact about the axe that you didn't mentioned as far as I recall (however, it might depend on the country), it fits in a 50 cm bag, wich is a pretty standrad size of bag. Not big, not small, just standard, and it fits it perfectly. ^^ That was actually one of the main reasons I bough it in the first place.

Ha ha, nice to see that you finaly got the right tool. Now you can retire all your other axes. I use mine since abaout 10 years and love it because of its quality, edgeretention and the fact that the head ist still tight. Perfect sice to take it out for trips. AS = Anders Strömstedt is the smith at Gränsfors Bruk who is mainly forging the heads for the smal forest axes. Have a nice time with yours and always think twice where the axe is heading when you miss because you dont want to be "bitten" by her ;o)

My daughter takes off in the forest and chops down dead trees with mine. We were camping this one time and it had gotten dark and windy. Well everyone is standing around the fire trying to keep an eye out for bigfoot without anyone else knowing that they are keeping an eye out for bigfoot, all the while visiting. All of a sudden this huge tree comes crashing down. We all freak out, except Hannah. She's laughing her but off. A half cut tree she worked on earlier, about 100 yards out, in the forest fell down.

I watched this video with my brother n law and I've wanted one for a long time. but as soon as we wathed your video I said screw it I'm getting one so I immediately ordered one. I had to spend $200.00 on it and it was totally worth it. I love it. I got the Ray Mears edition which I don't know the difference but I freakin love it. AWESOME!
Holy crap man. Thanks for reviewing that sweet ass axe buddy but now I've got to have one. Lucked out and found an outdoor company about 3 hours away that will have this line a available April 18. They ship too so I'm stoked to get my hands on one now. Thanks so much for the heads up bra. Wouldn't have known had it not been for you. And even showed me how to take care of it too. Your the best.

Really is a sick ass axe! Funny thing is gransfors says it's a felling axe, but it does split like a champ! I'd like to try the small splitting axe, it probably goes through wood like buttah.

I got mine from Jax 3 yrs ago. I still haven't use it. lol I play with it and admire its beauty. I want to use it so bad but there's no place I could go chop down a tree without getting sue or fine.
Bought one maybe six months ago or so. Really love it, and as you said, SCARY sharp. Got mine for around 80$ though, so it was a lot cheaper than yours. But I live in Sweden so. ^^

Mr Spades wow you scored!
Good review..really enjoyed the humor..Subscribed.

Great video. Just ordered myself a GB hand hatchet. When you treated your axe with boiled linseed oil, did you sand it first? What else do you recommend to protect my GB. Thank you in advanced.
They have been manufacturing axes since 1902... Awesome choice bro!
Hahaha "Damn!... - I mean, wow I'm impressed" You're right, these things are razorsharp...
sweet vid tac!! my small forest axe is my favorite cutting tool. oh and we have the same blacksmith "AS" brother
Ironic, I bought mine about a month ago, haven't used it yet and it TOO was made by A.S. I had 5 to choose from and this was the most awesome. (their all awesome of course). Looking forward to using it. Good review.
TAC, I know you not receiving Axe or Knife from you tube land, but just bought a Hultafors Hunting Axe Classic. It would have been nice to put Gransfors Bruk small forest Axe against my Hultafors. For now we'll never know which is the best. TAC, you rock and thanks for sharing.

$120 for something that will last a life time and then some. I always thought that these where more expensive than that. Seems a good price expecially since the way it performs. Great vid Tac.

MrJ9k good call. I have a Scandinavian forest axe and I keep it sharp. I'm working on an old white oak that's been frozen since December. Swedish steel or not, that shot is tough. These kinds of guys always buy an axe, cut some soft wood for 3 minutes and tell us all how amazing the axe performs.

totally agree with you, this axe is insane in the quality / sharpness department. The axe book that comes with it is nifty, too. People complain about the high price tag on a gransfors. After seeing how the axes are hand forged, and how well it performs, it seems like the 120 dollar price is totally justifiable.... heck even a bargain. thanks for the review.

Down here in Tejas we got some pretty tough trees. There have been times where my maul bounced off like I was trying to chop through rock. How do you think it will do against some oak?

My daughter takes off in the forest and chops down dead trees with mine. We were camping this one time and it had gotten dark and windy. Well everyone is standing around the fire trying to keep an eye out for bigfoot without anyone else knowing that they are keeping an eye out for bigfoot, all the while visiting. All of a sudden this huge tree comes crashing down. We all freak out, except Hannah. She's laughing her but off. A half cut tree she worked on earlier, about 100 yards out, in the forest fell down.
I would like to see some axe self defense Abraham Lincoln twirling the axe around before striking. Another cool vid great job Tac!

Ditto 100% Bought two, one for son. Awesome simply awesome. Get u one !
I so love mine too!The only one ive found as good if not better is the Liam Hoffman hand forged axes!
I also had a Iltis Oxhead hang on a 19 White Hickory handle it's a German made axe with a real thin head and a 5" face it too splits great at 2 3/4lbs it's saves energy like our S.F.A. you don't have to use alot of strenght to get the job done it's ultra sharp too.
This is going on my Christmas list 🖒
I've been thinking about getting a gransfors hatchet for a while, but the price has always put me off a bit, but the praise these things get is just overwhelming, I simply have to get one, they just look so awsome and classy too.
