    Hey tac, I have a gransfors bruk too and it's a winner for sure! A good budget brand is husqvarna, they used to be made by wetterlings now made by another famous brand that has been making axes for longer than gransfors! The only thing is the edges don't come that sharp but they are vary from $20-$50 depending on the size/ model that you want, Bargin!. See ya. (;

    Dude is funny as heck. I'm not a pro but I think you can really hear the difference in the axes when chopping. The small forest axe (and wetterlings to a sl lesser extent) has a reverberating "thwok" sound when the others are more like a "whack" and the difference in the bite is evident as well.

  • @rustedontheinside1115
    @rustedontheinside11159 жыл бұрын

    IMHO yes the gb had the edge when it came to chopping, but when you think about it, you should already have two axes with you anyway for the job. I think you should've pointed out the bes t team bring the gb and CD, the cold steel obviously for splitting and as a backup chopper, and vise versa with the granfors bruks. carrying both is not over cumbersome, as they're both small enough to fit well in a pack with a handy fishing knife, fixed blade or folder. if u were to go camping, both would be my choice for there jobs of delimbing, or felling small trees, and to split fire wood or make kindling. bug all in all great work brother tac, I enjoyed seeing all the four could do, I own a cold steel trail boss, I sharpened it, and its a great tool. hope you continue to treat your axes with great care as always, and may they serve you well.

    I think your tests rock, Tac. Maybe not completely scientific but real world use is what I like to see! I already have the cold steel just because it was so freaking cheap and splits like a mo-fo. Probably better get a gfb too... ;) Anyway, awesome work brother, thank you!

    I have an old camp axe that I can remember my Grandpa using from when I was 7 years old. When he passed away, I made sure I got that thing. It's gotta be well over 50 years old. I use it out in the woods all the time. I have no Idea what brand it is, everything is worn off of it. But its sharp as shit & works great. Hope to pass it to my son someday.

    CedricAda Gear and Outdoors I agree with you. The only tools I own that are worthy of passing down to my son are tools that I paid good money for & did not get at Harbor Freight or something like that. Cheap tools seem nice at first, but they quickly let you down if you actually use them a few times.

    I wish you could of used my Modde Iltis Oxhead, I have the 5" thin face on a 19" White Hickory Handle. It's a sharp one, infact very sharp German made, but it's a heavy head around 2 1/2 lbs All my friends said it won't split, but because it's the in and sharp the weight just splits like how do you say it, Mora ? anyhow Yeah I love my Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe but this Iltis Oxhead is becoming one of my Fav's. I don't know why I didn't use it alot. But Man once I started to Axe Tap my Iltis. It just makes short work out of it. I guess I felt it was a little to heavy to carry, but I figured a way to carry it and now it's becoming a Mofa heh heh heh
