    My mum has Alzheimer's. I put headphones on her and played her this piece, and she has been moved to tears all afternoon. she keeps saying; "I don't know how he does it!" She saw Lang Lang in concert years ago in London and she has mentally, literally been back at that concert. Thank you!

    Jesus....this had me in tears. For me it goes back a very long way.....as a small boy maybe 6 or 7 hearing the neighbour play it in the evening. It struck a chord with me as music has been in my life throughout even though i cannot play any instrument. I'm 70 years old now.....in tears!!

    Hacker0_o his temp is out of place due to the use of rubato- which means to play without a proper tempo, or something likw that. It is often used in romantic period, and this piece is from the romantic period. To those who play this piece, I doubt they will play this piece without the use of rubato

    Honestly, I've never seen an interpretation of any classical piece by Lang Lang that I liked. This is his first ever performance that truly left me speechless. He doesn't play it by the classical rules of interpreting a piece, he instead pours his heart out on the piano and makes something way more beautiful. Bravo!

    I agree, having always considered LL to be rather robotic & metronomic. I am guessing that this song must have some personal meaning for him the way he caresses thru some of the notes.

    the appassionata by Beethoven he also played well ..but I agree most performances I don't like either. But slower pieces he plays really touching. The fast pieces sometimes get messy and weird.

    they are trying to find stupid excuses to snipe this performer. idk why. for valentina lisitsa they go like 'she is fucking best' and for lang lang they are like 'he is fucking shit.' even though lang lang is way more skilled than valentina lisitsa.

    You have to understand that Liszt had a lot of hardships that this guy never faced, ergo, he does not have nearly enough background to know how to play the piece with full effect. It’s not the performers fault, especially if they don’t have time to research the composer.

    A very animated performer, but no doubt that he lives and breathes this music from his soul. I know people sometimes make fun of the facial expressions and gestures, but can't deny his brilliance!     Beautiful. Definitely the best recording/performance I have heard by far. Lang Lang puts so much genuine emotion into his music. The run at 3:08 is often times played harshly and fast, but Lang Lang plays it most delicately. Absolutely Beautiful.

    There is none like him alive today. A gift from God. I had the exquisite joy of hearing him play in Berlin (a year or so before the pandemic) and it was a transcendent experience...     Lang Lang’s interpretation of this is so soulful. He captured and enhanced the emotions of this piece, beautifully delivering the ups and downs of a long lost love. At the conclusion of the piece, the way Lang Lang finished gave such a beautiful closure that had me in tears.

    Franz Liszt was known for his showmanship and outrageous piano techniques. People who commented on Lang Lang's facial expressions to be unnecessary forgot the fact that Liszt was also like this in the past.
