Earlier in 2020 Lang Lang realised a lifelong dream by recording Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental keyboard work, the Goldberg Variations, often described as “a Musical Everest".
“The more time I spent with the Goldberg Variations, the more I wanted to know about Bach, his contemporaries and the composers he later inspired,” explains Lang Lang.
As a result Lang Lang is releasing a series of seven new recordings. They convey the tenderness and beauty of Bach’s melodic writing and complement the Goldberg Variations.

So beautiful to hear this piece after the passing of a dear friend who I played this piece with as an organ/piano duet. Nothing compares to Bach. 💕
Easily one of the best solo piano recordings I've ever heard.
Okay, so I have listened to many interpretations of this melody, but Lang Lang is seriously the most lyrical of all of them. Wow, he got me from the first note. I am swaying.

Evgeny Kissin's rendition isn't bad either. It's all a matter of taste.
It sounds so so spacely and with a lot of mix feeling like love, tenderness, fear, caring. My lovely Bach and amazing Lang Lang💓💓💓

Every note, every pause, perfection! It is so gentle that it should be played in every baby crib.
Bach has these amazing melodies with amazing counterpoint and this is one of the greatest ones. It's always the great siciliano where Bach is his most romantic and powerful. I loved this playing, so slow and quiet, such great weighting and balance. I am a Gould fan and I still loved this, it is still Bach after all. I really want this transcription to feel it under my fingers.

Lang Lang is a lyrical pianist so pieces like this end up as divine performances. Beautiful rendition. I performed this in a concert and it made a huge impact on the audience. Chapeaux to Lang Lang.

Оригинальное исполнение, где инструмент помогает музыканту передать именно свои чувства и именно в данный момент. В большинстве случаев исполняется произведение Баха. Тут же - звучит душа исполнителя. Мне кажется, что когда великий композитор писал эту музыку, то она звучала в нём именно так. Но на бумагу легла в звучании флейты и клависина. Со всеми особенностями звучания этих инструментов. Запись хорошая. Спасибо.

I have heard many renditions of this transcription by Kempf. It seems a surprisingly difficult piece to get just right. Up to now, my goto interpretation was that of Evgeny Kissin. This exquisite version by Lang Lang hits the sweet spot! Beautiful, sumptuous and sublime. 😌👏💐

¿Cómo no iba a interesar Bach a los románticos si esta música transcrita al piano es una pieza romántica 100 años antes d esa época? Bach cada vez m asombra más y m deja estupefacto su genialidad... Y pensar q n esa época era visto más como un "artesano" d la música y no como un "artista" como podía ser Haendel...

Wonderful and it's a magical composition from Bach..
This piece is like a heavy wine which makes you drunk the more you listen to it. Lang Lang's interpretation is beyond all the others I have listened to so far. It's pure perfection, utmost control of every note he touches... This is what heaven must sound like. Thank you, Mr. Lang!
This would be my favorite version, especially with the beautifully pronounced dynamics throughout the performance. Kissin, for me anyway, has the edge in clearer voicing, but Lang Lang wins me over with his superbly expressive interpretation!
Have listened to Kempff’s version and Kissin’s version (both on KZread). Here we must grant it to Lang Lang. By far the best performance. The voicing in the introduction, the timing. Just impeccable. Bravo and thank you !
