Landscape NOON + Machine Learning 1/5

Музыка

Here’s an early test of something I’m building for my Landscape NOON. The idea is that all the code/hardware will eventually live on a Bela as a standalone “instrument” with some additional components to scale the CV outputs as required.
What’s going on in this video is that I’m using machine learning (via FluCoMa + SP-Tools running in Pure Data) to train different classes on the snare (center, “edge”, two crotales, rim tip, and rim shoulder) and then using that to trigger 6 of the voices on the NOON. I’m also using descriptor analysis from each attack to scale the gate length, gate height, and envelope parameters.
I’ve also setup my Erae Touch to also trigger the same voices (color coded) where the XYZ in each of the 8 zones controls gate length, gate height, and envelope release.
The plan is for the final instrument to be a wooden CNC’d enclosure that will house all the additional electronics along with the Bela and some audio I/O so it will be a completely standalone instrument.

Hey Rodrigo this is really awesome! Just downloaded SP Tools and very excited to have a go at it. I've been trying to build something like The Living Looper but tailored more towards very animated-but still somewhat structured-electronic music. I can't code so I'm relying a lot on M4L, Bitwig's Grid, and lots of boolean logic to accomplish this. Your work has been hands down the most helpful resource I've discovered in my 2 years of trying to accomplish this build and I can't tell you enough how grateful I am! Also really love listening to the conversations on these Gib Gab sessions, keep em coming!

That's great to hear! Honestly, if you can make sense of stringing things together like that you may find coding (in Max at least) less difficult than you would think.

YES!!!! I’m so glad I stumbled on this channel, I use to talk to you a good bit on HC back around…. 06ish? I got the Drum and Bass: and the horse you rode in on album which I loved. There was that crazy math rock band too! Your drum set with the pressure controls that you use the tube to blow in along with the CL stuff and short bus tho?!? That was on a whole other level. I hope things have been going well for you and I look forward to catching up on what you’ve been working on. Sorry for the poor grammar I was just excited to come across this video.

Oh wow, some blast-from-the past stuff! Glad you found the channel and are digging the stuff :) Still up to same sorts of things, just with a bit more high-tech stuff going on.

Really cool! high-tech ML meets low-tech passive circuits of the NOON!

Amazing! I'm curious about the setup, maybe for a video on its own? Edit: just read the description, thanks for that! Non the less a video on the progress towards the final build would be nice. :)

Thanks! I will definitely make one once the setup/hardware is finalized. What's going on in the video is essentially the classification stuff from SP-Tools, just adapted to work in Pure Data instead of Max. You can see more about it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYyAqKptaZm6cqw.html

I built a bunch of the bits into abstractions for SP-Tools v0.8, but beyond that still waiting on a hardware solution for the CV-side of things before fully building it out.
