LANDLOCKED - Montana Elk Hunt

Спорт

Public lands belong to everyone in the U.S. Often, though, your public lands are surrounded by a fortress of private property, making them inaccessible. Sometimes you have to go to extremes to hunt your public land.
Randy Newberg, of Leupold's Fresh Tracks, and Matt Seidel, of onXmaps, aren't deterred by the challenges of public land, however. Watch as the two utilize a helicopter to access a large tract of public land in Montana to chase elk during rifle season.

One thing I have learned from watching Randy N. elk hunting. Take lots of breaks, that's when the elk show up.

I love this video! In my mind, this is about the only way to hunt borderline elk. Personally, I refer to this method of hunting as, "SHADOWING THE HERD." You don't chase the herd around. You simply shadow them at a distance, like a sniper, and patiently wait for the shot.

Awesome video again, I love watching your shows. The experience and knowledge you share is priceless. The onxmap is the best piece of equipment in my bag and should be in all hunters hands. Didn't let me click on the annotation to enter the antelope hunt, that will be an experience anybody would chairish!! Look forward to the next video!

Here in Idaho, we have areas just like this that the department of Fish and Game has worked with land owners to allow access. It comes with a price though. landowner allocated tags, and tax breaks, but I guess it beats the alternative. Great hunt by the way :)

Great hunt! Real people doing real hunts is way more entertaining. Great job with the onscreen graphics showing boundary lines too. Thanks for producing this hunt onXmaps.

Reminds me of the days of Hunting the Rancho Rajneeshpuram, known in the old days as the The Big Muddy in Oregon. Having to navigate the Private and hunt the BLM for monster Elk and Mule Deer.

Loved it, what a beautiful piece of our public land that most people will never be able to sit foot on. One question though, what's up with the Zeiss scope? Thought you were a leupold man.

Jim, Good catch! Randy is still sponsored by Leupold. Randy was a guest for this hunt which was sponsored by Zeiss. It was only a one time thing.

Randy Prefers the Montana series because of the larger touch screen, another great option would be the Oregon series.

protect private land rights. The best way to access them is by creating a special easement road, that is fenced on the border by the government... not go and lobby to acquire and manipulate people into selling and losing their entire parcels... not to these governments and their motives.

If these landowners took farm welfare, drought disaster payments, reimbursement for drilling a well, payments for the cost of hauling hay, the taxpayer paid for access. We need our senators and house of representatives to vote for laws that give no payments with no public access to private lands. If the land owner don like it, dont accept our tax dollars. Its flipping wrong that the people who make $40,000 a year have to pay into the tax pool and the govt kicks the money out too these landowners who own millions of dollars in land and equipment. They are multi-, millionaires if they own a 1000 acres. so the people barely making it have to give these multi millionaires their money, multi-millionaires who, many of them did nothing toe earn the land because they inherited it, the worst kind of land owner. more people need to know how these farm welfare and drought disaster payments work. YOu basically have paid for the land, but somehow the public who pay for it dont own it. Then they grow all this food to sell to China for less then the cost of production, and we subsidize these farms who break up more land for more guaranteed govt. crop payments, which means less room for wildlife and the habitat needed to survive a winter. Now I am finding out , these farmers could apply and get these PPP covid loans that we all know wont have to be paid back and many of them will not let you walk down a section line or a quarter line to access a piece of BLM. Squeaky wheel gets the oil, our eastern hunters need to get there federal representatives involved and educated to change the laws and if we are changing laws , lets get the invasive specie called cattle off of federal land and put the wild animals back. we should not have to cater to a handful of ranchers and screw the outdoor experience up for millions of americans. Dont eat beef.

Public land is just that public land and MUST be accessible to public yet million of acres are not because they are surrounded by private land owners telling the public "no access". They (the private land owners) say they are the stewards protecting public land... Wrong, but they get away with it.. Our constitution gives the public the RIGHT to access PUBLIC LAND!

Another state the Wilks Brothers buying up public land and not allowing hunters to go through it or use it. They have bought up a lot of north central Idaho. Sad!

Why are we, as taxpayers putting up with this crap. BOM doesn’t even get a fair price for the rent on the land because the rancher that has the land next to the BOM and allow access so he basically gets that land for free. Maybe it’s time to get all the cows off of public owned land. I’ve heard, and I don’t know if it’s true, but they only have to give a minimum bid of $1.50 per acre. It’s probably more cost-effective to not even rent it for all the damage the cows do compared to no benefits for wildlife
