Landing Kaminari - Spring 2022 Tameshigiri [katana tameshigiri]

Спорт

On this fine day nearing the end of spring I did some tameshigiri! Today I finally landed a kaminari cut, one that I've been wanting to land for quite some time. Its a little bit messy and the vertical cut is not very vertical but we're working on it. Also today was my first time cutting bottles and it was surprisingly fun.
Swords: 1095 clay tempered katana 71cm blade length
Tameshigiri targets
-Pool noodles-these require good edge alignment or they will not cut, very little power required. Also pool noodles that have been bent or manhandled have their fibres break and become incredibly difficult to cut as they have a tendency to bend instead
-Bottles-these are relatively easy to cut through but make it easy to see whether it was a good cut or not by how far they move after the cut

That was great dude. Keep it up. I do envy the precision you get at that level of explosive action.

With the first strikes on the pool noodle, your hips and toes raise as you perform the second cut. Instead maintain your hips at a similar to height to your first strike - this is done by keeping a lowered center of gravity as if sitting on a chair. To conclude, Lower your center of gravity in such a way it feels like you're sitting on a chair

I would if the target were a tatami mat and went down with the first cut. But a pool noodle pops up as it is very light so I have to adjust to track and cut the position I initially planned to. "Perfect" form is a falsity and adjustment for situations is what is needed. Perhaps I could have planned for the pop and targeted slightly lower to keep the low centre of gravity, but I had a different target in mind so I moved with it

I love your accuracy. I wish I didn’t have faulty eyes so my accuracy could be as good. However you really need to move onto real targets, like tatami mats which will test your actual sword skills. They are much harder than pool noodles, ..but not as hard as your newspaper targets, which I find a real challenge.

Thanks. Tatami mats are too expensive for me to justify cutting after shipping to Australia. I can practice power with a blunter sword and a pool noodle. My newspaper ones are good but take a lot of time to make
