Land Rover vs Toyota: The Ultimate Running Cost Showdown

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I thought it would be an interesting look into comparing the running costs of my current Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3) to my previous Toyota LandCruiser 80 series. So is this even a fair comparison to line up a Land Rover and Toyota? Especially high mileage ones!
All the figures shared in the video are from my previous and current ownership expense records. They may not be the same as every owner of these vehicles out there, but I feel it's a reasonable reflection of what you could typically expect from these vehicles.

One of the most interesting D3 videos. The missing piece of video - which only you can answer - is, is the extra cost worth it in terms of comfort, performance, towing etc.? After all those kms what did you enjoy driving more and what about the rest of the family?

As an all round vehicle, the Disco hands down is the better car, more comfortable, better off road, better on road, seats the family better. But the 80 series is such an awesome car on its own right, I never once worried about taking it anywhere whereas the disco there's always that little voice I the back of your head(which I ignore anyway). Maybe the fact that I've owned two 80 series vs only the one Disco says which one I love more deep down...

Question then is, if you had to buy another today, which would it be?

As a prospective D3 buyer in South Oz it’s nice to come across a good solid comparo. I don’t want an 80series, maybe a 105 standard but always wanted a D3. I’ve not kept track of vehicle costs so it was an eye opener. I’m reasonably comfortable with DIY mechanics after working on a 2000 Camry and a BMW e34 touring. The Camry is like … this thing is f#*king genius’ when you look at it and the bmw is like ‘designed by an bunch of impractical geniuses’. I know which one I like to drive more. Then there’s the VN wagon…a half baked mongrel car that doesn’t die. Yet. Anyway, thanks for the content mate.

Well, I reckon the costs of running a 105 landcruiser would be practically identical to the 80 series. Different body but essentially the same chassis and driveline.
