Thanks for this , after two hours of trying unsuccessfully to put the complete unit in, i'm now doing it like you did and installing it in separate parts.

That's was the most painless gearbox install I've ever seen! All in all very nice work. You're setting a high standard!

Thanks for the video. I’ve noted that I failed to include the spacer between the clutch slave cylinder and the bell housing. Part ordered, without your video I’d never have known

If you don't have an engine crane I've found a length of timber between the rear bulkhead and the dash top with a strap round the gearbox works.

Syringe the clutch from the bleed upwards to master cylinder. 100% guaranteed.

Very enjoyable to watch, even if a lot of it goes straight over my head! That's one lucky Series 3 to have a man of your calibre taking care of it. Thanks for sharing. 👍

For some reason this group of vids didn’t pop up, only found out by watching Kermits latest instalment. Remedied that now, never seen a box looking so mint. Good job sir. Re roamerdrive bolts, I’ve felt that the cover plate is nuts on studs, but that has to go , and it becomes steel bolts directly into the Ali. I never torqued mine down as they are very long thin bolts, but I did them up in sequence and to what felt right. A later subsequent check showed that I was around 28 instead of 33 foot pounds. They have never come loose or caused any concern at the “ kinder “setting. So , like you, I’m happy with that. Got a bit of a whine started on my box, no vibration but I’m thinking when the rain stops it’ll be a box change over. I’ll do do it the two part way, and am hoping that I can do it all from underneath without removing the seat box, so long as the cars up high enough.

Thanks, it's been all ok so far although today the speedometer drive has just started playing up- almost certainly the cable from previous experience... but I'll investigate. It's just never that easy is it.. Have you got a spare transmission to go in? I've dismantled both the gearbox and transfer box I took out for overhaul and bought the parts to do the gearbox, but tbh I wouldn't mind getting it all out of the way. If they are any interest to you, come and have a look some time?

@@steamwally cheers but I’ve got my original transmission in two bits underneath the bench, so that’s the one to go back in. I also like to know what’s original with the vehicle, even though all bits are the same really. So I’ll pass on yet another gearbox. I’ve got a spare tdi to build a little kennel for ; I’m a tiny bit jealous of Max’s many sheds!

How do you like the xzl's? A bit different than the grabbers i suppose.

They are excellent- I should have done it long ago. The steering is half the weight, the vehicle rides the bumps better and they looks so much better. You'd think the XZL's would be a dramatic increase in noise, but not so.

@@steamwally they look great on a series land rover. You might need to rotate them every now and again to keep them quiet. I do that with my toyo m/t's and they are still pretty quiet after 10000km.

@@rickz9495 That's a good shout, something I never really did with the Grabbers and regretted!
