    How the Land Rover jumping out of reverse gear? I built mine about 12 years ago with a wrongly machined reverse gears and it’s got worse over the years. It will only manage about 10 feet in reverse now so it’s going to come out. It’s annoying as the rest of the box is still perfect

    Are there any particular nuances when removing the Fairey overdrive and fitting the Roamerdrive? Every youtube I've seen so far has shown one being fitted for the first time so I'm wondering if there are any additional problems, other than the Fairey being a heavier lump than the cover plate to move out of the way. Is it as straight forward as undo bolts, pull it off, follow installation instructions?

    Hi there. Thanks for all the great videos. I've found them very helpful in rebuilding my Stage 1v8 Landrover. I have just rebuilt and fitted a Fairey overdrive - the later, evidently stronger LT95 variant. It goes well, little noise. What I have noticed though is that it gets very hot - too hot to hold my hand on. Does your one get that hot during highway operation? Thank you.

    not that rolling back seem's to be an issue but gypsy's would pull a bit of wood up steep hill's tied so it drag's just behind the rear axle and if the horse need's to reat or stop it can as it act's like a chock the wood is the width of the axle and a bit extra simple idea

    Thanks for the effort you have put into your videos. I am rebuilding a series 3 gearbox to go into my 1968 2a. My first restoration project, never had a gearbox apart before, but now you have provided great detail on how I need to put it back together. Just wondered what type of grease you used. I also noticed that my oil thrower was out by approx the same as yours.

    These Jimnys are selling like hot cakes in Australia, when released they were selling for A$26,000 on road drive away, wait lists quickly blew out to many months. Suzuki seeing a winner have been bumping the price up steadily, they now sell for high A$30's and still are moving as fast as they can be imported. Owners of the early units have been selling their second hand cars for more than they paid for it new. The Jimny and its grand father Sierra have always been very competent reliable light 4wds. Getting the job done easier and cheaper than huge heavy fuel guzzling wagons. A good practical car that with a set of more off road rated tyres will go anywhere.

    The 1.6 petrol on the old suzuki swift sport (to 2012 I think) was a great engine. Always thought they should have put a turbo on it and went from 5 gears to 6 and that little car would have been amazing

    Looks great. Its the type of car JLR could have made. “Defender Lite” instead of their obsession with £100k cars. Ive a 27 yo Defender and love it.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwallyАй бұрын

    I agree in that it would be great to see a back to basics, British built vehicle along the same lines, though sadly I think JLR's market is now a world away from that of the new Jimny. I know these are popular but they are not selling in huge numbers at all, hence the very small number that have been imported to Britain, quite a niche vehicle in reality. I really hope they decide to keep selling them here, I feel the Jimny is the perfect vehicle for our roads, year round.

  • @55points
    @55pointsАй бұрын

    Very impressive vehicle. We were looking at a 2024 Jeep Compass recently but the price tag at about 40K USD was rather prohibitive. Especially now that we are retired. There are zero used ones to be found. They don`t last long on the lots, sold often in one or two days. And they are ridiculously high priced even so. This one suits you well.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwallyАй бұрын

    The cost of vehicles has become rather frightening! Not really so very long ago I bought my first car new off the dealer forecourt for £6k... how things have changed. It was affordable to work for that, I think the last Fiesta's were about £22k for a basic model when they stopped producing those. Outrageous!

    I know they stopped doing "saloon" Jimnys because of emissions regulations, but I have seen a few with four adults on board and I don't think rear leg room was a priority! Surprised they didn't delete the side windows when it became a commercial model though. Cheers

  • @steamwally
    @steamwallyАй бұрын

    I think you can actually get panels to replace the windows if you want to, personally I quite like the visibility and it's quite light in the cabin too. TBH I think these make so much more sense as a light commercial, it's certainly far more useful to me.

    With some of the comments you was making, I don’t believe this engine ran all day and approximately 1 L of fuel it would also be far more interesting if you had a suitable size pulley to drive either a car alternator or a permanent magnet generator and run the engine and shown everyone how many amps was being produced to charge the battery and it would also be able to see the engine on the road on and off load as you connected and disconnected the charging system. Not sure whether you’ve ever thought how many people, would buy an engine just to start it up and watch it tick over for four or five hours doing nothing that is not what engines was originally meant to do assuming your engine is 4 or 5 hp a Reasonable Load would be at least half it’s maximum horsepower viewers would be able to see it go under load and see how well it performed. You have done a sterling job with regards cleaning and getting the engine into an excellent state of health all we need to see is it now working and doing possibly the job? It was meant to do? I hope you are not offended cheers Derek.

    I've been rebuilding my gearbox and when I've put it back together the syncromesh seems to slide forward too far. I'm thinking I've pushed the mainshaft through too much so that the primary pinion isn't press up against the outside of the syncro enough. is there a guide as to how much end float there should be on the mainshaft?

    I think you are using the hydraulic press too much. There is always a risk of damaging an aluminium casing. Most viewers will not have a press anyway so it's useful to make them aware that warming the casing with a blowlamp causes it to expand and enable bearing housings to be dropped into place quite easily.

  • @steamwally
    @steamwally2 ай бұрын

    If you want to see how it's done without the use of the press, see the previous set of gearbox overhaul videos. I'm a qualified engineer and I assure that this job is easier with the use of a hydraulic press and far less injurious to the components.
