I know that the Land Rover Rivet Counting club will give me hell for what I said so Ill clarify- haha. I knew I should have said EXACTLY what the truth was." That VIRTUALLY all were exported and Most resident vehicles went to Military or Corporate customers in the UK." Hows that?

I'm not aware of any stage 1 V8s used by the British army. Most seem to have been station wagons with not many going into working lives. Southern electric had a handful, but not aware of many other commercial users. The odd breakdown truck maybe? Export models were much more common.

I have a stage 1 here in the uk . Mine was at the 1982 Blenheim palace motor show and is one of a few that stayed behind. She’s bloody rusty

Back in the 70s my uncle used to use supafry, as cavity wax, here in Oz . Got it from the supermarket, like a square block of animal fat.

doing a resto on my 1977 series 3, that area where the windscreen sat and is connected to the dashtop you can move it around, welsh weather and previous owners disinterest in checking things over.

Its really coming along. Looking forward to the repair of the "cancer". Those windscreen wipers - I've melted the aluminium before, so I was waiting for you to experience the same fate...but no, you did well.

Not sure without seeing it- but citric acid is a good start. for 12 hours then baking soda to stop the reaction. once it has diesel in it it should stay rust free. let me know how well that works.

@@EricaMTB James Taylor's book "60 years of the 4x4 workhorse" clearly states the change to coils came under stage 2 of the investment programme. Interestingly there is mention of a stage III as a derivative of the SD5 project, which would have been a totally re-bodied landrover with independent suspension. It was around in 1977 and quickly abandoned.

Because that would be a sacrilegious act of vandalism. 'Rare' 109V8 Stage 1s are Rover V8 (apart from some that came with the diesel 😱).
