Loved your rig, gave some inspiration for my D2. I was wondering how you mounted your drawer to the back? And did you use server rails for the slides? Sweet DIY on that.
@wilkes982
5 жыл бұрын
@@JackKetcham the frame that the draw mounts to is bolted to the floor in 4 places with some custom brackets that go through factory nuts in the floor. The drawer slides are 100kg rated 1m drawer slides and the second slide for the gas stove is a roller bearing style set of slides also 100 kg rated. hope you build something nice for your d2

@@mandycandyangel I'm not running any lockers, just factory open diffs
I got mine (1994 D1) for $2000 U.S. It was so cheap because the dealer thought there was something wrong because he couldn't get it OUT of 4WD. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's always in 4WD. I chuckled all the way home...
Ronny Dahl this is why your a solid dude your enjoying this guys setup...alot of ppl we meet on the tracks are stuck up and dont appreciate stuff they just buy 50k of gear for their 40k jeeps but never hit the side tracks...#builtnotbought #4wdPNW

3.6 powered wranglers are amazing, especially Rubicons with the 4:1 transfer case and D44s with front and rear E lockers stock. And the E disconnect sway bars. And the magic traction control. And more flex than any other 4WD you can buy.

Great truck , goes to show we don't need the latest and greatest equipment or truck to have fun. Thanks again for a excellent walk around.
I've watched a lot of your modified videos, and I think this one is my favorite. You can tell that Josh spent a lot of time thinking about this build, and I love to see the DIY over bought products. So cool. Thanks again for another great video Ronny!

One of the well thought out rigs ever on modified, nice one 👍
Ronny should cover "Roaming the Outback" Bretts Defender.

A nice, well thought out camper on a budget. And it's a Disco! Awesome build, built for purpose, not for showing off. And a very cool owner, as well. That's exactly what I have in mind right now and I'm pretty sure I will use some of his ideas for my build as well.
Discovery 1 ... whole lot of fun! Really enjoyed this episode, love the rugged functionality and no-nonsense build which must have come in at a cost affordable to many people. Can’t wait to see what Ronny does with his Discovery 1!
The go-cart rig is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen
True confessions: I have been a Patreon supporter of yours for awhile now and you have taught me alot but I don't overland just drive my subaru on some not to tough dirt roads, I haven't watched your channel for awhile but checking out this episode it looks like your video quality has gone through the roof. Congratulation keep up the good work.
YES! Thanks Ronny for finally putting a Disco on Modified! Still waiting on a D2 though ;)
A really nice review, from a down to earth chap! The build is the same as I did with my defender! Keep it simple, do it yourself and know all the components on your rigg! Many thanks indeed! Mark (UK)
I think that this was the most enjoyable modification video I have seen yet. I do not drive a Disco or even a wagon but to see a set up that is as well thought out and not owned by a chequebook modifier was great. Bloody well done on your rig, I wish I had the skill to do what you have done.
One of the best vids. Josh, you are a great bloke. Sensible, thoughtful and full of great ideas.
i love this its so easy to throw alot of money at your 4x4 and make an overlander, but this style of saving where you can and being somewhat more minimalistic is really great. it all works just the same in the end
Smart Disco, once I get mine running better (smokes & backfires like hell when cold but once it's warm it's great) I'll be looking at some converting and this has given me some inspiration. Thank you guys
Best one so far! More Land Rovers please!
My first ever 4WD was a Ranger Rover with a P76 V8 conversion with front and rear diff locks. All that for $5000..... Went anywhere, didn't care if a scratched it Would love to see an old Series 1 Range Rover on Modified.
Loved this modified episode! Nice to see the well though out, built well, but on a budget set up. Keep up the good work!
Great to see a budget build for a change simple and effective without the accessories costing more than the car ....good vid.
What a nice bloke. Good to see a functional setup. Hardest thing is to keep things very simple. Seems to have done a top job.
Fantastic DIY build, well done!! No excessive waste of materials and extra weight
Brilliant! Love the quick access kitchen. Thank you.
This channel is great. I'm currently building a 3rd gen 4runner and have gained so many ideas from this channel. Australia 4x4/Over landing is awesome. I just wish we got the new 70 series cruisers here in the U.S.
One of my favourite modified episodes. More down to earth and actually affordable created by someone with a more realistic budget and with some great ideas. Not that I dont like the other modified episodes but realistically who has £50,000 to spend on an offroad vehicle, certainly not me!
Love it well thought out and no extra weight. Hope you have many great adventures for years to come with it.
Thanks for sharing your Disco 1 with us, great to see them over the water. My Discovery is also a 1996 300TDi. I've done a lot of modifications to it. Loads of videos on our channel if anyone is interested in having a look.

oh wow here is my comment from 4 years ago. Back looking at Disco 1 videos as we are going to buy a standard one and keep it classic! We are nearly finished our conversion from Disco 1 to Disco 130 overlander, a couple more months and the Red Lady will be finished.
I have a LR 98 Discovery 1 Tdi. A fantastic car. Love your videos Rony Dahl. Greetings from Turkey
I've owned a ton of em. Great fun off road....that 300TDi sound never gets old.
Thank you so much for putting this video together and sharing it 👍
Favorite modified episode so far, please feature more DIY builds like this they are so much more interesting than big dollar off the shelf setups....
Love diy projects!!!! Thank you Ronny.
Blink-182 clothing and a Disco. This guy knows where it's at!
Great to see so much home made and clever little mods. Well done Josh it’s a cracking motor
One of the best. Simple mods to a very capable vehicle.
Super, love it when the owner knows his rig inside out.
Awesome, finally a disco, now waiting for a D2 and D3/D4.
Good to see you really enjoy the DIY rigs Ronny. I liked the kitchen simple but works 👍
awesome as usual, thanks for making these Ronny.
Awesome stuff Ronny. Great truck Josh!. Big fan of the D1. Great set up all round. many of us go from the 3.9 to the 2.5. Cheers for sharing!
Great to see a capable vehicle decked out on a budget that works for the owners needs
Really enjoyed this Ep, sweet DIY build and loving the Disco!
Disco is set up very good and a lot of thought has gone into it, thanks.
Great job man, love your style! Real good setup
This is how must of use would build a rig out of our own pocket. Great video really enjoyed it
authentic fella, authentic build. great stuff.
Thanks Ronny, thoroughly enjoyed this one. Gotta love em old discos.
Great to see a Disco. Finally! 👍🏻
Loved the disco, been waiting ages for one but we need more.
Great truck. I had a disco 2 for 10years but I’d love a D1. Brilliant off-roaders!
Nice rig well thought out.
Love it. Simplicity and DIY/built. The way it should be before we started spending thousands on “must have” mods
Thanks gentlemen. very informative and entertaining, Ronny, another section that I suggest for modified is how available and expensive are maintenance parts and major components.
Great to see nice down to earth set up good ideas for my Disco.1 Off to get some outside lights! Cheers Steve
How good are the discos! Love it.
finally a serrie 1 disco. now we must wait for a modified disco 2. great rewiew

Yeah I agree with the others Ronny, I’d love to see a Modified D2 Td5 on your show!
Really nice bloke. Good build and love that he really enjoys his 4b. It doesnt have to be flash to get you where you wanna be.
Love it..... thanks Ronny, greetings from South Africa
Love seeing old landies in the outback!
Great video I always like looking at other peoples set ups to get ideas

Great car, great episode from a fellow Disco 1 owner (on my third 👍)
Thank you great show.
Tnx for sharing, very sound, practical, well organised outfit (i.e. not over the top)
What a beautiful rig. Looks like everything I want to do someday.
Yes D1, I also had a 3.9 v8 and moved to the 300 tdi, loved the v8 but it used twice as much fuel.
So pumped to see a Land Rover.
I love the 300tdi disco review.
nice rig Josh, everything works well
So good to see a truck built on a reasonable budget.
Great vid! Informative and entertaining!
Looks just like mine except shinier with nice tyres. Same year model too. I need that winch and roof slider for my Nano Trike. Try some Hiclones, I made 2 myself and get between 9 and 10 litres per 100km.

Awesome how he build it on a budget, you don't always have to buy new stuff if you can build it yourself!
More of these Videos Ronny!!!! This is 100% what its all about That kid is Smart, Ingenious and Resourceful.... and Green! This is how we all started and to this day, they are always the best mods! Anyone can buy off the shelf generic crap and bolt it and be like everyone else, boring. This guy reminds me of a young Luke from Drifta! In fact, they both arrived at the same idea for a pull out kitchen. He has solved all his own problems, and done with off cuts and ability! And having as much fun as someone in a $100K+ V8 Cruiser Good on ya fella, i'm far more impressed by this than a Patriot Camper This is the guy i'd wanna have a beer with at camp, not the wanker with big cheque book

You're missing the whole point of Hughs comment, Brad.. ;)
Clever use of the winch like that and tidy setup in the back there.
Love the original discovery... A side note - I was taught to put in 1st gear before dropping the handbrake... and when stopping to handbrake before putting into neutral.
Great episode. Not mega dollars but some hard work and inspiration.
Finally... Next time discovery 2 TD5 :)
Great shared detail Thanks
I now own a 1995 D1 tdi in South Africa and I love it to bits , busy modding it now
Nice setup all around!
I had a Discovery 1 300tdi commercial for 6 years and the only after-market modifications were a larger inter-cooler, removal of the EGR valve, wheel spacers and the turbo adjusted to compliment the larger inter-cooler and apart from a sudden clutch failure while cruising down the motorway, a heater matrix springing a leak and a water pump seal blowing, the Discovery proved to be reliable, very economical and straight forward to repair. It was also very practicable, fun to drive and good off-road too!
Awesome diy👍🏽
Those Eagle eye 1w leds are brilliant on the back of my car
I have a 1994 land cruiser 70 series 3.0 td. Zero rattle and vibration. 430 000 km. Toyota is amazing.
Like the new layout of the modified. Suttle changes 😎
Nice intro! I first thought you changed it all for a sec there, then it kicked off like usual!
Chill dude, nice ride!
cool guy love the DIY builds
Awesome ride mate... Loved it...
Looks to be a very capable vehicle and well set up for your needs. I had a TD5. Should have kept it!
Best off road land rover
Brilliant build. So we'll thought out. We'll done.
Awesome seeing stubbs bbq sauce down under. I like that stuff.
Thanks this was great 👍🏻
Nice DIY!
Nice Disco, I have a 1998 model which it is my second one. IMO the most important mod on aTDI300is the water level alarm.
