The old guy and the young guy in the born to die, blue jeans and west coast mv are the same person. Lana is dead and is portraying a ghost because she died in the born to die music video. He is imagining that lana is with him but in reality it’s just his imagination.

Shades of Cool is about Lana being attracted to a cold hearted lover, and wanting to fix him but being unable to. She doesn’t feel like she can get the deep connection she desires, but keeps coming back for more

He's unfixable, she can't make him better; she tried, and now she moved on. Next is the masterpiece called "Ultraviolence"

This was the song that really hooked me in LDR madness. I went down that rabbit hole, never to be found again 😁

I remember every detail of the first time I listened to her. It was April 14, 2013 and it was a rainy day in Monterrey, mx. I was bored watching videos on YT and then she popped up and the title “Born to Die” caught my attention because I was in depression that time and I clicked on it… best decision in my life, I never regret watching that video. I fell in love the very first second of the video. She kinda cured my depression 😅 nah jk, but she helps sometimes haha

I listened to born to die on a local radio station. It was a revelation. Her voice was so haunting that my interest was piqued. As they say, 'Lana is the reason we exist, everybody knows it's a fact kiss-kiss' ❤️😉

My first time was a friend sent me Cinnamon Girl. I wasn’t a fan at all at first. But now I listen to nearly every song of hers plus unreleased.

This song its a masterpiece. Had a vintage sexy touch . Its fascinating! Lana is art!

My ex husband was 26 years older than me. We were together 8 years and had a child together but sadly it didn’t work out for more reasons than just the age difference but that did eventually cause issues because we were both at such different stages of life. Sadly he passed away in February at 75 years old. Our son is now 25 and he is so sad about his dad being gone at his age. When you have a child with someone older that’s one of the gamblers you take but none of us knows how long we’re going to be here.

I know a few couples that have a significant age gap, so I know it works for some people. I do believe that age is just a number... But sometimes that number means growing into different stages of life at different times. Sorry to hear about his passing, that's sad no matter what age.

Guess you know by now that the older man in Shades of Cool and West Coast is Mark Mahoney, he's a famous tattoo artist. Can you do Marina- Purge the Poison. Marina was a good friend lof Lana untill the QFTC-piece. Hope they will make up.

The name “ultraviolence” comes from the move clockwork orange, where alex, the main character is a criminal and assaulter and leader of a gang who creates horrific things in the city. Ultraviolence has a narrative of when lana was young and would get into abusive relationships with older men, where she thought all the abuse was vintage romance, she also sings about being he side chick a lot. The album front to back is amazing. This song is about the men and his other lover and how lana is feeling and being perceived in the situation. The character throughout thw whole album seems to be involved in affairs, drugs, ab*se and etc. I love the video and i hope u adore the album.

The videos have a sequence! First Born to Die- The life of a relationship where she die! Ultraviolence- The nightmare about be dead West Coast- She’s gone and the video it’s the life after and before the dead that why when she’s with him in the life young is Beautiful but when he’s old and he’s in the car, is sad cause just can remember -Shades of Cool- He just remember her that why she’s a ghost and hi just try to live his life!

You guys should react to the blue velvet music video. It’s a ad for h and m but the video is phenomenal.

It's actually turned into one of my faves from her, I like the eerie vibe that bursts out to the almost inspirational chorus. Some of her best vocals and my fave style of hers. The kinda lost but not too trancy, helps fit a somber mood like a solo late night drive

That whole “Lana is dead, Lana is a ghost” thing isn’t really “true” per say, it’s just a fan theory that people love, Lana hasn’t suggested it at all herself. I’d just say the whole point of the video and song is to show how distant and “cool” (emotionally) her lover is, and that no matter how much Lana tries, no matter how s*xily she swims and eats a strawberry in front of him, no matter how much she dances with him in a bright red dress (contrasting color), she can’t seem to “break through his world” - he lives in constant shades of cool (lots of blue light on him in this video) and Lana remains invisible (maybe that’s why they used a hologram effect, not because she’s a ghost lol)

Exactly. The shades of being cool talking about being cold. With a cold heart, cold hands and cold attitude, cold with no strings attached to the relationship because he's distant. Also the ghost vibe I see it more like, she wants to be noticed but she is more like a ghost to him, not always present in his life.

i agree with you entirely if you are talking about the song itself. lana's lyrics are brilliant and clearly portray the difficulty of being in a relationship with someone who is heavily depressed. but lana often creates a whole new story for her music videos (as many artists do). and to me, it seems very clear that the story here is that the older man is haunted by lana's ghost. she specifically chose lynchian aesthetics and cinematography (and even harked back to twin peaks styling for her as the holographic ghost in the beginning, wearing a waitress dress and with a classic hairstyle). it climaxes when she finally dances with him and hugs him, almost as if the man has fully accepted and surrendered himself to his delusion

This is actually true because Barrie (the guy she was dating during the UV era) had depression and she said it was very hard for them to keep the relationship going

I don’t think this is about longing for an older guy or vice versa , I think this is about a man who can’t move past a younger version of a past love.
