Laksa Recipe - Singaporean Curry Noodle Soup (Laksa Lemak) | Asian Recipes
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
After a trip to Singapore a couple of years ago, I fell in love with their Laksa! The coconut curry broth is complex, fragrant, and just the right amount of richness. Seafood stock is the base of the broth, and the flavour the comes through is every seafood lover's dream. You might be tempted to skip the clams but trust me...the clams make a huge difference in the flavour of the broth.
There are many types of laksa across Malaysia and Singapore, but this version enriched with coconut milk is the one common in Singapore and is also known as laksa lemak, peranakan laksa, or nyonya laksa. What's your favourite kind of laksa and what is it like?
COOKING TIPS: It's a bit of work to get all the stuff together, as is usually the case for noodle soups, but you can make many components in advance and spread out the work. You can freeze the paste, so not a bad idea to make some extra. The broth can be made days in advance, and even the noodles can be cooked in advance. If you're going to make the broth ahead of time, make sure you cook off your clams and shrimp as well since raw seafood doesn't last long, but cooked seafood can last up to a week in the fridge.

Question. You know it's really hard to find galangal here in the Philippines. Do you think if I order dried galangal or powdered galangal online, it would still taste as good? Mostly when doing your recipes, I used dried because its the only thing I see available online that could last a long time. Like dried lime leaves and dried galangal Thanks in advance 😊

Thanks for your passion! Kopkunkaaa! I am sure your recipe tastes amazing 😍 but have a question, I ve tryed my first laksa in bali and it was unbelievable, everything that I ve tryed after in Malaysia wasn't the same. Do you know any other popular laksa recipe, as the Singapore style laksa?
I'm an Indonesian living in Australia making a Singaporean recipe from a Thai chef that lives in Canada, it's a small world after all

I am Filipino, who grew up in the US, now living in Australia, worked in Singapore for a few years....fully aware that this laksa recipe is very much Malaysian (with a Singaporean twist)...learning how to make it from a woman of Thai heritage...who now lives in Canada ! Whew... Funny world ! We all accept that this is life. I hope Asian racism stops. We brought the world beauty and food.

And a fellow recipe maker from Sr Lanka!!!
I grew up in Singapore 16 years. This Laksa is one of the best authentic Laksa recipes out there.
I love how you explain every use of each ingredient. It gives people more understanding on how it originally taste & not like a recreation but authentic how you can get it away from Singapore, in the comfort of their own house.
I'm french but my husband was singaporean (malay/indonesian), been there so many times when he was alive......I master lots of recepies including rendang! love S.E asian food; I live in Paris chinatown where I can find most ingredients but no more laksa paste (been looking every shop) so now, gonna follow yr recepie and will do it ''home made'' thanks a lot!
I'm from Singapore and laksa is definitely one of my sinful comfort food. Everything you mentioned is so accurate and true! Makes me one to get one right now!

Laksa is my favourite local food. Same for Hainanese Chicken Rice and Beef Noodles Soup
Singaporean from Peranakan family here - looks amazing and thank you for your attention to the small details that make this dish so special!
Singaporean here. Gotta say, this is as authentic as it gets. Pretty spot on.
Hey! I'm Brasilian. I livedin Singapore for four years. This soup is my favorite. Today I live in Brasil and the tradition continues in the family.
A good laksa is teethering on the edge of depression cure, your first love and puppy cuddles all the same time- I have always felt happier and heavier after eating a bowl or two.
Always a pleasure and an emotional boost after watching Pailin's teaching videos. Laksa is very hard research-wise, since it comes with so many varieties. Love this version, so healthy and well balanced.
I can't believe it took me so long to stumble upon your show. I found it about 5 nights ago and watched at least 12 videos in a row. And of course, I subscribed. I love what you do and how you do it! Thank you for using original ingredients and making it from scratch, and showing us suitable alternatives for when we can't find the original ingredients. Your presentation is fantastic. You are an absolute master and delivering just the right amount of information and keeping it very entertaining and exciting. I've already made one dish and can't wait to make more. Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Me too! I love the recipes and the enthusiasm.
After discovering this video yesterday I went and order some Laksa Lemak from a local Thai restaurant. It was SO GOOD!! One of my new favorite dishes!!!
Going ro make some Laksa today using this recipe. My wife is Malaysian and we usually drive 3 hours to Vancouver, BC to get a her Malaysian food addiction and my Laksa addiction relief.
Been craving laksa for 20 years since I first (and last) had it in grad school in Australia. These laksa videos make me want to cry bc I don't have any! THAT was the impact this soup had on me. Literally thinking about it for TWENTY years.... sigh....
I tried Laksa for the first time last year and I was OBSESSED! Not like my usual quick noodle soups meals but I know it’s worth the effort 🥰
I love the way you interact with the camera. It comes across to us like you are our best friend teaching us to cook better. So personal and warm. Thank you Pai. Korp Khun Karp
My first trip to Singapore was in the 70s, only two western hotels in town, and NEWTON CIRCUS!! Best food in Asia...EVERYTHING...Thai, all kinds of Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, Filipino, ad nauseum. And the soups were divine, because the stock is always homemade. I could live on Asian food, especially soups, the rest of my life. Great recipe!!
This is almost exact replica of my granny's recipe! We will also add in a bit of sambal chilli paste in the broth before serving!
Hi Pai! Just wanted to say thank you for this easy to cook Laksa dish recipe! Im a singaporean living in Las Vegas and we barely have any singaporean restaurant out here so yesterday i was craving Laksa and stumbled upon ur video and the next day i went to get the ingredients and made it for me and my vietnamese bf who hasnt tried Laksa before and we both LOVE it! So thank you❤️
She’s so adorable and natural! I love watching you!
I really appreciate the explanation and substitution for the candle nuts and cockles. I also appreciate the explanation of the usage of different blenders.
I just love how you speak! So clear and so spot on! ❤
Pailin, this is just wonderful. I’ve watched it a number of times. You should do an update featuring a _quick_ _version_ . I know the full, made from scratch version is the best, but a quick version would be fun too!
Best recipe! Thank you for the substitute info for ingredients that are hard to find. You made this dish a lot more doable. Thank you Pai!
1:20 that way of saying "spicy" is truly singaporean! Love for the video, thanks for the recipe!!!
Wow! One of the most favourite dish in my country Singapore. Thanks Pailin.
Curry and noodles combined sounds delicious! Can't wait to make it!
This looks insanely delicious! You made it look easy to make as well. Thank you.
I miss that laksa noodles.it's one of my favorite when i was in Singapore and until now .yummy!!!
U made me miss cookin this! Yes all the hardwork in prepping pays off when we get to sit and sip the spicy soup........ Comfort food!!!!!!
You need to toast your belacan before blending, the same goes to candlenut, it would be much more fragrant. Too bad you cannot get daun kesum. Cheers from Singapore.

Sarawak laksa!! the best ever! Really appreciate how you mentioned that different regions had their own laksa :)
I will be flying there in the morning. I can't wait to eat this!
I always love your cooking show and the exact measurements thank you so much I appreciate
Yes! My all-time favorite Singapore food
Mmmm, looks delish. To any Aussies out there, you can usually find laksa leaf sold as Vietnamese mint in our greengrocers.
I've been waiting for this recipe! Thank you so much for showing us how to make it.
Really interesting recipe! I appreciate that a number of ingredients and technique matters come out here that I'd never seen before.
Literally crying while looking at you eating that, gosh... that looks soooo good!
One of my top 3 (yes, top 3) favourite dishes ever. And you absolutely did it justice. Top of your game! :D
I was at Singapore last year and I tried it, one of the most delicious things in the world!! Thank You for Upload this.
I love a good laksa recipe. It is so good for the cold climate and it warms up the body . Thinking about this recipe makes my mouth water.
Each recipe you share is always delicious! Thank you. The soups are my favorite!
You make it so easily which shows that making Laksa is not so time consuming after all (even though traditionally speaking, the curry paste - rempah - takes forever to pound). I love your recipe! 😊
Yesss! The spicy sambal and hard-boiled quail eggs would do just the trick when eating this!
Cut up noodles = Katong laksa (popular but still a lesser known variety). Well done. Hungry for it now. Think I’ll go downstairs and get some.
Thank you very much for such detailed information I just tried and had so much fun doing it thanks Pailin
I've been looking for a Laksa receipe these past days. Gonna try yours for sure! Thanks Pai!
Penang belacan! Yay!!! Love from a penangnite!!!! You're amazing. Love you, Pai!
So honored u made this popular dish from Singapore! It looks delish!
im not asian, but this type of food.. makes me go insane. it looks SO good. i wanna make this so bad, and i may just do it when this pandemic dies down! youre super informative and pleasant to listen to, thanks!
I've started a tradition in the last few years of making Laksa on boxing day with the left over seafood. Last year I made it with a whole lobster! It was so good. This year I only have one lobster so I probably won't use all of it. But have prawns for it. I can't wait! yum!
I made that today. I made it for my wife (Scottish), my friend (Thai from ราชบุรี) and myself (French). The three of us absolutely destroyed it... Unbelievable recipe. And kind of not hard to make when you live in Thailand which I do 😁. Thanks for this awesome recipe!!!!
I love the way you teach how to cook, very positive, happy, smart, and so on; your food looks delicious; but the most outstanding of all is the way you say: LET´S GET STARTED...!!! and when the ingredients mix or the food is done you say: TA RA...!!! :D :D :D ha,ha,ha,ha... Greetings and congrats.
My all time favourite dish after living in the tropics....every weekend at the markets. Now living in southern Australia it's so hard to find a good one anywhere.
Pailin,, You always cook with so much energy and your tasting at the end makes me want to go and make the dish. This Singapore shrimp dish looks great and I can’t wait to try it. Yum!!
Looks so very beautiful and must taste so very delicious. Great recipe and demo of how to make it. The fragrance and taste of this iconic dish is incredible with all the spices and fresh ingredients! Love it....
Yay finally a Laksa recipe!
Laksa, one of the best dishes in South Asia, love it! Suggestion : Roast shrimp shells till they go brown, it brings more flavor in the soup!
Fantastic ,can't wait to finally organize and try this at home, thank you
Thank you for your recipe Pailin. I top up my laksa with fresh cockles, finely chopped laksa leaves and a table spoon of dried prawn sambal.Aromatic and taste great!
You missed out on the hard boiled egg though. The cooked yoke absorbs the broth and it is totally out of this world awesome. Try it!
I think that some of the most authentic laksa recipe. I remember it all from Singapore and it's about 25 years ago that i went there.
Never clicked on a video so fast. I love laksa!
Your Lakes Recipe so yammy! Seafood based broth. I waiting Friday look at all new video from you.

I love the way you cook. Its like a true master chef.
I'm going to make this dish because sometimes I get Laksa cravings at 2.00am and no restaurants are open at that time. Wish me luck. Oh, and thanks Pai for such an easy to follow recipe.
I can savour the nice complicated taste without really eating the recipe! Thank you.
Thank you for the recipe. Nice presentation and I cant wait to try it myself.
Good job Pai! Note - You can also fry and cook all the side dishes (tofu/fishcake/prawn) in advance. That way if you do an open house your guests just gonna assemble them and enjoy, like a taco party! You can also add any type pf salad-y leaves and lime if you want. 💕
Laksa!!!! will try to make it this sunday. Thank u as always.
Laksa is one of my fav noodle soup. I hope I can find the ingredients and make it. Thank you so much for sharing it from scratch. ALWAYS love your video

Thank you Pailin. It looks delicious.
Au top - merci beaucoup pour cette belle recette.
This laksa looks so good , look way better than some of the restaurants' laksa I ate before.
One of the best curry dishes out there.
By far, the best looking Laksa on YT. This is the one i will be trying and i'll report back! Looks absolutely amazing!!
1:48 exactly what we want 8:18 delicious broth 10:52 a final drizzle
Hi Pailin. When i cook laksa, I add in a handful of laksa leaves together with the stems into the shrimp stock and let them mingle their flavours together as the stock boils away. I learned that in a recipe and the laksa leaves add more flavour to the shrimp stock.

Good job! You made it so easy and simple to follow. I miss Laksa very much & it's not easy to get all the ingredients from the asian shop in Germany. Many thanks & love!
Thanks for the tips "That's OK" @ 9:05 - gold lol. I have perfected the Vegetarian option and have found using corn cobs (corn removed for later in the Laksa) in the vege stock is a winner.
lovely there's a recipe available for this dish I only knew from restaurants in Canada. I'm currently, unfortunately, living on the other side of the continent, far into South America where there's absolutely none of the ingredients shown - except for garlic I'm so homesick!.... How I miss Asian food!! When I came down to South America I brought just a bit of dried shrimp and people thought it was "awful" how I could like "that rotten" smell... if they only knew what (to me delicious) shrimp paste smells! thanks for this recipe and I hope one day the pandemic ends and I may go back at least, to Canada to a multicultural city where you can find even stores where the ingredients you show are sold. Thanks for your clear instructions!!!
Thank you!! I love Asian cuisine
