Honestly, I'm very surprised that you didn't catch any coho while catching smelt on the second day. I've heard that guys catch perch there but I've never caught any and you just caught a batch of them, so I'll be prepared next March. Last fall coho fishing was quite crappy in the Marquette area, and the lack of "spring" coho is forboding for future coho fishing in the U.P.

So last year I bought some frozen smelt just the north side of the bridge on our way to Grand Marais. I dipped them in a flour dredge and shallow fried them but just couldn’t get past all the bones. Not what I was use to eating as a kid. They seemed bigger to me as the ones I ate as a kid but around the same or a bit smaller then yours.

They definitely taste very fishy and the bones are noticeable if they’re cooked after frozen!

Another great one! Curious if you've ever tried those rattle reels. Saw some other KZreadrs using them on there ice camping trips to catch burbs while sleeping. Never even heard of that before this year (I havent done a ton of ice fishing though). Anyway, originally came for your salmon/steelhead videos years, but I'm loving the direction you're going with the channel!
