Lake Ontario Spring Brown Trout Fishing | Casting Little Cleos and Moonshine Spoons From the Pier

Спорт

Lake Ontario is most commonly known among anglers as a successful trout and salmon fishery. During the spring, shore anglers get the rare opportunity to catch brown trout in shallow water before they head off to depths only reachable by boats. During this time, they are feeding heavily and aggressively. Chances are if you find warmer water you’ll find the brown trout.
It took some bouncing around and some time on the road, but I was finally able to find some of those brown trout I was chasing. After spending all morning at Olcott Pier, I decided to change spots in hopes of finding dirtier (and warmer) water. Once I located this water, the brown trout were hitting my Little Cleo 2/5 oz spoon like there was no tomorrow.

That looked like fun. Usually when the lake is flat and clear, the action is slow for the browns. Need a bit of stain to the water or a bit of chop and you’re on top of them. Nice video. Really enjoyed it.

I knew when I got to spot one it was gonna be difficult. Luckily spot 2 had some muddy water in the area and I was able to save the day. Thanks for watching!

I was running my mainline to a small barrel swivel and then to about 3ft of fluorocarbon- it was the barrel swivel getting caught

@FishinFolks learn how to tie an fj knot and then run a high speed barrel swivel the fj knot is so smooth you can tie on a 20 foot leader if you want works great in clear water conditions

For brown trout I use 6lb mono main and 6lb fluorocarbon leader. Could definitely get away with heavier main line but I only have one good reel and don’t like to waste line.

In the springtime the brown trout are eating whatever they can in the shallows all over the lake. It’s a blast and I highly recommend
