Chinook or “king” salmon come by this name naturally. The largest member of the Pacific salmon species, kings are best known for their ability to impress anglers with their drag stripping runs. Hands down the best king salmon fishery in the United States takes place on the western end of Lake Ontario near Niagara Falls, New York. The Niagara River pours nutrient rich water into Lake Ontario attracting baitfish and in turn countless king salmon. Mid to late May is prime time for hooking up with limit catches of salmon and bonus lake trout.
