Lake MXZ303 Winter Cycling Boot

Спорт

Here is my review of my MXZ303 winter cycling boots, by Lake Cycling. In short, they are VERY warm. However, I must admit that I don't ride when the temperatures are below freezing. Therefore, I cannot claim to have tested them to the extent that northern cyclists may.

Scott - excellent review. Straight and to the point. And since you have had them for two years, really cannot argue that this is an accurate reflection of the product and not just a "hey I just got something new post" Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the comments, Linwood! I see a fat bike in my not-too-distant future. So I may wind up using these boots in colder, more abusive environments soon. :-)

Great review. Just exactly what you want to hear in a review. I live in Iceland and I'm struggling to find a pair of winter Mtb boots that will keep my feet warm and dry in those wet and cold winter months. Think I will give the a try

This was the perfect review for me. Saw the reviews on this shoe and loved it, but problem was that I only use a road bike. I wanted to use the shoe with it, but I wasn't sure if it was good to ride with a road bike. Thanks for the much needed review my good sir :D

+tigerbite22 - Try a set of mountain bike pedals for winter use only. I've ridden on SPD pedals on my road bikes for years. It's only temporary if you use them for winter use only.

+Captain Overpacker well I actually wanted to use it for hiking in the snow soon and I've been biking at night. I was thinking it'll be a good use for me to keep my feet warm and dry at night. what do you think or suggest I should do?

Hey, are you still active here? I love your hitch mounted tray with fork mount! Nice idea. Simple, cheap, super effective, adjustable per user needs, etc. Didn't notice a wheel holder fork but the one I have from Thule would bolt right on too.

JW - I haven't been active on this channel. An injury and then personal illness has sidelined my bicycling for quite some time. I'm about ready to get back on the bike, but I probably won't make it back to the level that had me reviewing equipment and writing blogs. I'm more active on what is now my primary channel, StealthGTI, kzread.info. As for the fork mount, I decided against mounting them because of extra hassles. I just toss the wheels in the trunk. Thanks for writing. -Scott

Good review - thanks for providing it. Question: does water run down you lower leg and into the shoe? I don't see any silicone seal at the top of the cuff. Thanks.

Sorry to have missed this. There was a time when my notifications were not set properly. I still find unanswered posts from time to time. Anyway, I cannot say that water gets. I was wearing rain pants in the video, which directs water around the boot. I don't typical rain on raining days if the weather is below 40 degrees. So I don't have a ton of experience there. Thanks for writing. -Scott

Hi. good review ! How many sizes did you go up ? I usually wear size 44. I have Shimano cycling shoes at size 45, but also Specialized Cadet at size 46. What size do you recommend ? Thank you in advance

+Artiskon - I think I went up two sizes. It really depends on if you like to wear thick socks in the winter. I think I went up one size at first. I bought through Amazon. So the vendor readily accepted my return. My reason selected was (something like) "size not as advertised." Once I was credited for my return (quick turnaround), I immediately ordered the next size up. So the only penalty to trying more than one pair is TIME. OH - Visit Lake's website. They have a sizing chart that'll show you how their sizes compare to other shoe makers. Good Luck!

I’ve never biked in high tops. I’m concerned that I will feel restricted around the ankle area when biking in high tops what is your opinion on this? Is it tight around the top or does it give you the movement you would need?

I thought I'd have the same problem. I keep the top loose enough to allow for ankle movement. I haven't had much of an issue, especially with the leather being broken-in. Thanks for visiting.

Hi! wht's the lowest temperature you've rode em and it was warm to your feet? What is the point of outside conditions when you need to use extra warm socks?

Sorry to have missed this. I think my lowest temperature was about 20 degrees. Below that, I'd probably add chemical warmers to the mix. Or maybe not. If I'm honest, I don't ride much or very long in the winter. If it's really cold, I stay home. HAHA! Thanks for visiting.

What would you recommend for rainy wet weather that isn’t too cold?

  • @CaptainOverpackerRides

It's tough to say, I think. If you get a waterproof slip-on shoe cover, which is tough to find for a mountain shoe in my size, it may keep rain water away, but your feet will still get wet from sweat and water seeping-in through the leg openings. If it's not cold, I just let my feet get wet. They'll dry fast enough if the rain lets up. Thanks for visiting! -Scott

What is your carrier rack on the back of your vehicle?

  • @CaptainOverpackerRides

RapidfireXring, The rack is simply a plug-in basket. They can be found at a variety of places. If you like Amazon, mine is a discontinued model that's very similar to this one: amzn.to/2pwNy0Y From there, I bolted some fork mounts to the sides and carry my bikes as depicted in this photo: stealthgti.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/cargobike-02c.jpg. Very nice! I usually wear some sort of wool sock. Depending on your temps and how warm you keep your legs and torso, you may even be able to get away with a summer sock. You just need to experiment and see what works for you. Thanks for visiting! -Scott
