Lake District Walks | Canoeing & Circuit of Derwentwater

Join Abbie as they spend a day on Derwentwater. Walking from the campsite they get an incredible fleeting glance of the UK's only native squirrel species - the red squirrels. Then they enjoy riding on The Keswick Launch, walking along the blissful lake-side path, and canoeing at Nicols End. Plus a quick visit to Keswick! A great low-level day for when the clouds are in.

Absolutely love all your videos, energy & personality, Abbie - but this one was extra-special. New to the Lake District (1st visit a month ago) have totally fallen in love with the whole district & already booked a place to stay (this time in Keswick). Excited, even though bit far in future, so much looking forward to doing some of your amazing walks. Thanks for sharing your awesome experiences.

Our natural world transforms Every day and month and year. But if we don’t take time to look, Wonders fade and disappear. So stop to hear sweet birdsong, touch the bark of every tree. Rest to feel the suns warm kiss, watch the journey of a bee. Look closely in the woods and fields Where magic is unfurled. Find poetry in the everyday, Explore the natural world... 💖

Your kayak adventure reminded me of a story that someone told me years ago about venturing out on a frosty cold morning in a kayak and they decided to put a heater in it to try and keep warm. Unfortunately the heater tipped over and set fire to the kayak, which sunk very near to the shore so they were able to scramble to safety. And the moral of the story is........? - you can't have your kayak and heat it ! Actually Abbie having watched several vids during lockdown your ritualistic cake and hot drink break which is a really nice touch and i had to take the pc upstairs to show my wife the monster apple you were tackling (16:40) on the Lodore Falls , Walla Crags and Great Wood walk ! Abbie you are a star - long may you shine . Cake tare !

What a lovely film. Your enthusiasm is infectious! One of the happiest holidays my family and I have ever had was a few years ago, when we rented a cottage for two weeks on the Lingholm estate (don't think it is possible anymore..?). We had our two canoes with us and we explored all of the lake. We had the luxury of a private section of woodland and shore on the estate from which to launch. Canoeing across to go shopping in Keswick and to have lunch was excellent. Every afternoon, our treat was to call in at Nichol End Marina and enjoy a cream tea with the largest scones in the universe! We also explored Rampsholm Island, (which is the location for the characters in 'Neville's Island', an excellent comedy play by Tim Firth) and generally had the best time! If you have not yet visited the Lakes, I recommend Keswick and Derwent Water as being a delightful way to begin. I cannot wait to get back there one day!

That was good Abbie. Please indulge my ramble here. I was in the lakes last year, did Catbells and walked down the other side to the far end of the lake.. Hiked my way around the lake and caught the ferry where I met a young man who had actually visited my home state of Arkansas . What were the odds? I walked the square in Keswick many times and had lots of fish and chips. You may not know it but the northern UK has its own smell. I hadn’t been in England since 1975 when my family lived in Yorkshire. When I landed in Manchester the first thing I noticed was the smell and it was like I smelled it yesterday. The same for so many of the details and landscapes is saw. It made my eyes tear up. Your country has been in my blood since I was a kid and I appreciate your videos that make me wish we’d never left it. Cheers from the states and a fellow walker.
