Thank you for this drone footage and your comentary. I did not loose my home. (thank God). But many friends did. I did not have work for 5 months... But I have my home and my dogs. My heart is broken for those suffering so much loss. Lahaina is so special. I hope it is honored properly when being cleaned up and rebuilt. We do not want it to look like Waikiki or Wailea. Please honor Lahaina properly. 🙏

Are the local authorities helping those who lost their homes to rebuild? It seems they dropped the ball in defending the neighborhoods from the fire and should take responsibility to get people back into homes where they have lived for generations.

In 1972, July 2-12, I was 6yo, my brother 8yo. My mom took us to Hawaii on vacation. Her boyfriend, Harry, a PanAm airline pilot. He lived in Lahaina. As this video approaches the Lahaina Harbor, Harry's house is just behind Front St about 100yds South of the harbor. Dottie's Beach is the little triangle of sand as the breakwater goes out from shore. We sat on that little beach as the full moon was on the horizon directly in our line of sight looking through the harbor. When inside the harbor, suddenly a massive Manta Ray breached fully out of the harbor water, before dropping back into it with a huge splash. The moon was momentarily blotted from the night sky. It is a memory I will forever have. I couldn't believe it when I heard Hawaii, then Maui then Lahaina! I was crushed. The wonderful people of the area... So sad

Yes shortly after the fires there were at least two very detailed and long videos of Drone footage of the area ... and one of somebody photographing from a motorcycle going up and down each and every street and that was on Hawaii Real Estate channel . He interviewed a number of people about their personal experiences there with the fire and the aftermath . At one point he was dealing with them ( you tube ) either threatening to shut down his channel or they removed his videos when I'm saying is a number of his videos came down . I know he did also have another channel but I couldn't remember the name of it to find it ... but Eric on Hawaii Real Estate channel was very proactive in reporting what was going on

From your point of view as a resident, what groups can we donate to to help, we here do not trust the government groups and want to help and get the money to families directly. Thank you again for your time and efforts and please know the American people love you all and want to help, we just aren't sure what is still needed and where to direct our efforts. Having lived in an area destroyed by a hurricane, the initial progress of rebuilding is painfully slow, and time for grieving for lost people and pets takes time. But once the insurance and FEMA money comes in rebuilding will take place and in 2 years from the fire, Lahaina will be fully rebuilt and open for business. You can’t rebuild lost history, but can rebuild to make new memories that will make Lahaina a beautiful place again.

Heartbreaking to see. So reminiscent of the Paradise Camp Fire. We just realized 5 years and this footage brings me back to those very beginning clean up stages. Do you have info on where the cleanup debris will be going? Being on an island must pose some challenges. Thank you for updating us and my prayers go out to all of the survivors and the community, for peace harmony and resilience in their new lives moving forward 🙏❤️‍🩹

It’s a CRIME they’re dumping it over an Aquifer, streams & only feet from the water & an enormous coral reef, on a jagged lava bed lined with a thin plastic TARP. OLOWALU “temporarily” is a disaster site where they’ve already bulldozed off half the mountain, which will create incredible runoff thru the dump site into the ocean.

Thank you Jesse for the video and commentary. We have visited Maui and Lahaina dozens of times and watched in horror as the town burned last year. From you survey and commentary about the pace of clean up it seems it will be at least a few years before the area is cleared and many more as it is rebuilt. So sorry for all the locals impacted by this devastation from housing, work, entertainment, health care, etc.

Thank You so much for doing this. I am working with a group from the mainland to offer some alternative sustainable technology solutions to the people of Lahaina. This video really helps me to understand the devastation. What I noticed in the areas being cleaned are a couple of things. 1) There was only water being sprayed in one site. 2) I was told the dump trucks that were going to be loaded with the debris were to be lined with 80 mil HDPE film so the material could be wrapped in transport (like a burrito) to keep ash levels down on the way to disposal. I saw none of that in the 4 or 5 sites we passed. Thank you again for doing these videos. Regards, Skip Rochefort, Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR

This is such a help for those affected by the fire. I know they appreciate your time and effort! Everything seems to be going extremely slow, but considering the monies that need to be processed through the insurance companies, plus appropriating help with the cleanup, it is understandable! I think at the end of that period people will start to do their own cleaning up , because I am sure that commercially it would take forever. The only good thing out of this disaster is there will be no shortage of work to be had.

Thank you for doing this. All reporting on the mainland never gave us a good idea of how much are the fire encompassed. I do have two questions: is there an accurate count of how many people lost their lives? And where are all the survivors living? I find it appalling how little has been done. I lived through Katrina and know how long it takes but this is ridiculous. Still keeping the people of Lahaina in my prayers.

I've never been there, as I live in Germany and it's a very long and expensive trip. After hearing the news about the horrible tragedy (it hurt my heart thinking of all those poor people dying from fire or smoke or losing their homes or businesses) I looked up videos of Lahaina before the fire, and I totally get why people loved this place so much! It seemed like such a peaceful, lovely town. I wish I heard of it before and had been able to visit. I hope it's possible to rebuild it in a way that preserves that lovely character but also prevents something like this tragedy from ever happening again.

Thank you for the informative drone work. We were just on Maui for a week and went by that general area a couple times. To see it (well the parts from the bypass that we could) in person was a bit overwhelming. We did notice the memorial up by the bypass that was put up of all those lost. After the initial shock of the loss of lives and property when the news of the fire hit the various media sources, my next thought was about the run off and what impact that would or could have. Glad you mentioned it and that it is a concern to the powers that be. We found a Coconut Line location by chance and saw the list of items needed for donations and promptly went and got stuff that was on the list to donate while we were visiting.
