Lagos State Begins Clean-Up Exercise Of Lagos Under-Bridge (Obalende)

Hi guys today I’m in obalende Lagos Nigeria and I will be taking you guys to the Obalende under-bridge. For those that knows this place and are familiar with the terrain. Obalende under bridge houses a lot of things that should be within a city as the place is know for all sort of dangerous activities. But recently the Lagos state government through the ministry of environment and water resources began clearing some of the under bridges the first one being at Ijora olopa and Obalende being the second place. One thing I will say and a lot of people will agree with me is that the commissioner of environment and water resources in Lagos state honorable commissioner Tokunbo Wahaba is doing a lot in putting some sanity back in Lagos most especially on the environment. hope the tempo will be sustain.

I totally support this. Lagos shouldn't be for everyone to want to live. It is not by force to live in Lagos if you can not live decently or afford it. The same people when abroad would be sending pictures of beautiful places. Meanwhile, the same place in their countries are full of anti-social behaviours.

There is no country in the world where under the bridge and surrounding areas become a refuse dump, a market, living quarters, etc. Please clean it up, and turn it into a park or amusement park. But also find alternatives for the people displaced. Now they have come to Lagos from all over the country, they have to survive somehow

Great job and kudos to the Lagos state government in its ongoing determined efforts to rid the city of filth and ramshackle shanties and general environmental degradation all over the city that constitute terrible eyesores, giving the city a very bad image indeed both internally and externally. As the foremost city in Nigeria, indeed Africa, what happens in Lagos reflects on the nation and the continent as a whole, either negatively or positively as the case may be. Lagos is the Pride of Nigeria. The massive infrastructure development in Lagos must, therefore, be complemented by robust environmental development and aesthetics of similar scale such as massive tree planting, natural parks, playgrounds and amusement parks, and even libraries to positively engage and impact the youths just to mention but a few. With that said, the welfare of the displaced people ought to be taken into serious consideration as well, with a view to integrating, transitioning and transforming them into productive members of society contributing their individual quotas to the development of the state and country in general. Lagos is a pacesetter and one hopes there's a masterplan already developed and in place before the commencement of the demolition exercise, which hopefully, is just the beginning of the implementation of a comprehensive and holistic masterplan.

(MOE) It’s still in its crude state, hopefully work continues as miscreants can be seen lurking around the area waiting for the slightest moment to come back once they sense work is no longer going on. One thing we should all remember as Nigerians is that having beautiful cities is hard work. All European cities we love to use as example are very strict with squatters and we as communal Africans would call it wickedness to the poor. So it is either we enforce clean and beautiful cities or we accept that we are kind and stop comparing our cities with European cities.

In Holland spaces like these are fully utilised. The governor needs to visit Amsterdam, Rotterdam as case study. So many urban spaces in Lagos state left to miscreants. I am happy with environment commissioner Tokunboh Wahab for his foresight and determination to get thing done.
