The defender was going to make foul contact regardless of whether the attacking player started to fall or not. The ref made an intelligent decision and called the penalty. Penalty call is 100% valid.

Yes, LA Galaxy was robbed on the PK... and yes, lafc could've scored at least 3 more but missed.. what is also annoying is when Weibe does the segment on instant replay, he will say, "I agree with the ref because its not clear and obvious.." when it definitely was.. commentators in english and spanish were convinced the ref would not call the pk.. not a single commentator agreed with the final call... sucks that this rivalry match got stained with this embarrassing call. That was absolute trash. I dont like either team, but that was the most obvious dive. How do you see him dragging his back foot and not insantly know he's going to dive.

No way the referee still gave the penalty when Yamane pulled out from the tackle which Bounga then clearly dived. Idk how it was still given as a penalty, league is rigged smh. BOUNGA WAS ALREADY FALLING BEFORE CONTACT WAS EVEN BEING MADE 🤦‍♂️

Best part of the game was the clear and obvious non- penalty that the soccer community at large agrees was a gargantuan flop. If MLS had any scruples theyd give Flopanga a yellow for simulation. Neutral here, so I don't really care either way, but that's a complete dive from Bouanga. He sees the defender sliding and starts angling his body so he falls making contact with his boot. Ridiculous that VAR didn't overturn that. Sucks for Galaxy fans, but that's sports sometimes.

Contact was still made. Even when he was already falling, NO Contact in that sequence must not be made. If the defender touched the ball he could have argued he was aiming for the ball, but since that didn't happen, this happened. Complete BS but those are the rules. Literally rule is: Tripping or attempting to trip an opponent

According to Riqui Puig, “Lafc was more aggressive and made it difficult to find an open man in between the lines which is how we destroy teams and to be honest, it’s what costs us the most”. Yet the comments here only acknowledge the penalty call as if it was in the 90th minute.

You’re saying because of the penalty given to Lafc, that jeopardized Galaxy being down by just one goal.? With 68% of possession like you stated, galaxy were only able to put 1 behind Lafc. Is it a penalty?…I mean.. by definition yes, the defender clips Bouanga within the penalty box and fails to get the ball. I just think it was such a soft penalty that it honestly shouldn’t have even been called in the first place, especially since Bouanga was looking for the contact and began falling even before getting clipped. It’s an annoying call bc Bouanga didn’t even try scoring and just chose to throw himself rather then letting the play carry out. Still, technically a penalty even though it was extremely weak. I wouldn’t have called it as a ref because it just employs players to do it more often. MLS needs to change the rulebook a bit, so that iffy calls like this where rules are exploited become abused.

I would like the rule book to consider ball location & control too on these calls. Bouanga's touch on the ball took it too far ahead of him to control very well and he had little chance in keeping it in had he stayed on his feet.

Just left the referee Jon Freemon some hate on his FB account. Don't regret it.

This year for the MLS by far has been a good start to the season and has my attention. With this miss call & with VAR not doing its part by justifying the clear NO Penalty has me feeling like it’s also a start to what the Mexico league is already at “ Corruption “ keep this up and you will lose genuine interest in what can be a top flight league in the world.

By the way, mls should never have a promotion/demotion system (all football leagues should be closed in the first place. The pro rel system is trash with no advantages) What benefit does Division 1 get from having a popular team in Division 1 relegated to Division 2? Rather, investment is reduced and popularity, profits, and league salaries all decrease. Who invests in second-tier teams? Even if you get promoted and invest, you will be ruined if you are relegated again.

Becauae there is no relegation, MLS teams play slow because they dont have fear of getting relegated and getting less money next season. After some matches, we get to know some teams that can't be qualifying for play offs. So the matches between already eliminated teams become boring and nobody plays seriously. But in other leagues, they fight with their lives thats why its always thrilling. And because of pro/rel, many 2nd division teams are getting well money which keeps a balance between teams. A lot of better teams gets promoted and stays in 1st division long time because they are better. And 2nd division teams increases their investment after promoting. Where relegated teams usually sends their player on load or sells them on that particular season. So investment issue is also balanced.

Maybe that ref was a diversity hire 😂
