As a non chess player your Mom's 20 minute rule makes so much sense. And not just because she's a grand master. What do you really gain after 20 minutes? In pretty much any task, once you've processed all the alternatives you end up rejecting almost all of them. If you don't end up with an obvious best move, then you probably are down to 3 or 4 possibilities. If you can't tell which is best, then just pick one. This emotionally very difficult, but at that point you're not problem solving, you're just agonizing. I may not understand chess, but I do understand the interaction of logic and anxiety. Listen to your Mom.

Sometimes you’re not just calculating when spending that much time. You might have 4 or 5 different ways to trade into an endgame and you’re taking into consideration positional factors that could come in 10-15 moves down the road. Then you also have to consider the tournament standing. Do you need a win or just a draw? Usually I think you’re right and 20 minutes is too much but sometimes there are massive differences between different moves

@@flavory9891 Yes, I do realize that chess is a game of alternative universes and as you think about your move you have to play each possible game in your head, but still this is a chaotic system where the ability to predict your opponent's moves is imperfect. I admit that I wasn't really considering the possibility that someone wouldn't be playing to win. I specifically said that I'm not a chess player and that I was speaking more in terms of following algorithms and not mistaking anxiety for solution oriented thinking. I have no idea what an appropriate time cutoff would be, but Pia clearly does have this expertise. That's all I meant. And I also have no idea why I've been watching these games when I really have no idea what's happening. It's still interesting, though.

I've never really played chess except as a kid up to about the age of 14. I was pretty good at it and most often played my grandfather. I beat him most of the time. The thing is, my grandfather was a world class checkers player. Checkers and pool. The only chance I ever had is if he toyed with me. I've watched Anna agonize here game after game extending the permutations of play to the point it hurts her play rather than helps. She ends up toiling with rapid moves and losing because of it. Maybe if she just rethinks the process of play and sets a reasonable time limit for making a move. It would force her into more decisive and confident action. She does the best job of anyone I know at making chess interesting and fun and I appreciate what she does.. But I wonder if she could be better at chess? If that's the goal then she will have to evaluate how to do that a little differently.
I love hearing Pia get excited about your chess games. She's the best.

Your attitude to the Reykjavik tournament was inspirational - thank you. Cultivating resilience is so important: I wish I had understood that when I was younger.
I love Pia’s commentary it’s like getting free chess lessons from a Grandmaster and you really can’t argue with that!
Love these tournaments so much! Glad you are having fun! Good luck at the next one, Anna!
I didn't expect that intro
You've got this Anna! I'm rooting for you!
Love these tournament videos.
Good luck to ur future tournaments!
Good luck in the later rounds. I loved your mom's enthusiasm during her commentary!
Cool! Looks like an amazing place. Good luck, Anna.❤
At first I thought you were in Sweden and marveled at how early Spring was over there in comparison to our current wintry weather here in New England with some areas set to receive up to two feet of snow as a Northeaster barrels in. Your mention of the island of Majorca in Spain early on didn't register until I saw the palm trees. No wonder you're happy! But we break into the 60's next week. Good luck in the tournament!
Anna is satisfied with her time management in this game but my honest opinion is she spent too much time on those 8 or 9 opening moves. I am a weaker player than her but I would spend less time in the opening even though I am not familiar with it. (I would play 4.a3 instead of 4.g3.) Also, it is quite clear that opponent's idea with 5...c5 was simply to get Anna to an unfamiliar territory. He didn't care too much that positions arising from this sequence are almost always slightly worse for black. And he made a right choice - Anna got into time trouble and then he overplayed her.

Yes, it was almost guaranteed that it would lead to time pressure forced mistakes later. 1.18 vs 0.39 left is intimidating to look at for the rest of the game and then witness how your opponent instamoves due to him using your thinking time.

39 minutes left was fine for that point of the game, 1 minute too low to solve problems in many complications
Wishing you a fantastic tournament.
Wishing you luck for sure. You’re a lovely person and I really enjoy your channel.
we are so back
Tough matchup. Good luck for rest of the tournament. Let the time gods be with you.
just to see someone enjoying life so much is a blessing

i wasn't sure if you were re-capping your games. Thank god for that!
I’m sure you’re aware, but your opponents are thinking on your thinking time. They have twice the time to think that you do.

Good luck Anna!!
Lycka till, Anna! Good luck!
Best of luck to you, Anna! Learn from this one, shrug it off, and focus on your next match.
I've been to the same place as you in Menorca. Amazing place. Enjoy the amazing cities there and make sure to have a drink in the bar at Cova d'en Xoroi! It's a cafe/bar/club within a cave at the literal side of the island, it's incredible. It has the best and amazing view ever!
Good luck, Anna. You look like you're enjoying yourself. 😊👍🏻
7:18 That's nice. And good advice, mom!

Time time time! Anna!!!!!!!
The jump did it for me

Iceland; Minorca; you seem to play all your chess on islands these days! Glad you're in a new tournament! And in good spirits after playing a 2484 15-year old!!
Good luck u deserve it
Sun Tsu:. 'Every battle is won or lost before it is ever fought'. Looking at someone's rating, getting intimidated by it, playing overly careful and wasting time, getting into time trouble is the familiar pattern
Awsome game black went into knights queen reverse backwards for he did not play it towards the king for the attack and I dont have the level on this one yet im working my knight bird reverse and my one square knight bird and my newest donna bird standing.and i wish you luck for thats what you want but with the right diffention you are right.good game❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊your right you got to have fun
Midwest USA- rain and cold😢
There is a beautiful breed of chickens named after Minorca. I hope you get to see them between rounds. It would make a great intro-but maybe not quite as good as the jump!
Go Anna Go!!!
You got this yo! You have studied hard, worked hard, and proven you can hang. Don’t psych yourself out. Wishing you the best!
múdate de vuelta a España que lo estas deseando! jajajaja good luck for the tournament!
Good Luck Anna!
as a new subscriber even though you are funny looking I find your videos to be very relaxing and enjoyable
Go Anna!
Don’t forget the Paddington ‘hard stare’ to put your opponent off.
Spoiler Alert!!! Anna is so cheerful, she always approaches everything with her bubbly personality and a great smile. I don't know how she does it. Win or lose, she is always happy. Not me! When I lose, I'm not so cheerful. :)
The people that came behind you while trying to get the ball through the hoop 💀
Good luck from New Zealand♟️❤♟️
Anna, thank you for showing your thinking processes and your fears. I assume all chess players do that in their own unique ways. Actually, I wonder exactly what is your art-style, is it Mondriaan’s abstract, Dali or van Gogh. Please continue to video as you now do. You describe your parents’ basic styles. To me, your egnthousiasm for chess inspires many people and is more important than winning or losing. Enjoy the tournament!
Have the best games and good luck even if you don't need it
Very cute opening.
Probably my favourite intro you've ever done!
You should've opened with a3! I hear it's really good.
She is so silly sometimes, but that is part of her charm.
That wasn't a basketball, it's a ' space hopper " you sit om them holding on to the long bits ( often portrayed as ears if the hopper has a ' face'' on it ) and sort of bounce around
GL Young lady
He didn't look at all to be 15 maybe 25 ,
Good luck Anna.
Enjoy the rest of the tournament 😁
Great chess video
Ra7 Gasp... I think you should be very happy with this game, you held a significant advantage for a long time against a very highly ranked IM, on the cusp of GM. Good luck with the Tournament, and Good Luck with your quest for 2200. BB.
Good-Day Anna Cramling... April 3th/2024! But an easier way to win with your Mother...Chess-experts say...your chess-playing so good! Your attitude to Reykjavik tournament was inspirational=> thank you very much. Cultivating resilience is so important•••> I wish I had understood that when I see your(Anna) Chess-Playing. God bless you Anna Cramling!
I wish you peace of mind, calmness, clear thinking and lots of logic and loads and loads of luck, too, for good measure!
Good effort. I sure would enjoy seeing you move a little more quickly! 😮
I had the chance to watch Pia's commentary of this match live and it made this the most exciting live chess match I've ever seen. Sign me up for more of that!
Well, good luck! eller Lycka till!
Anna: "I prepared really well for this tournament", but then again started thinking on move 5 as if that standard opening is something totally new in the chess world, while being in shock that her opponent actually knows 8 moves of standard theory.. Yeah, Great opening preparation (as always)
