Thanks so much, my Friends. I’ve listened to the passionate vocals of La Marisoul in her group La Santa Cecilia (“Odiame” etc.). When I saw she had done a Playing For Change video of La Bamba, I knew her contribution would be emotional. Have a great adventure traveling. Hugs 😽❤️‍🔥

La bamba was not originally sang by Ritchie, it is a very traditional song whos lyrics are improvised by the artist every time, it is considered a "son harocho" regionally from the mexican state of Veracruz

That was fantastic! Thanks to Michele, Nick and Lex for making that happen! I believe Los Lobos did the soundtrack for the Richie Valens biopic La Bamba, and sang the song, which was lip synched by the actor Lou Diamond Phillips.

When I was a kid, my friend learnt this song, 1 on vocals, 1 on keyboard (instead of guitare since we didn't have a guitare & me on drum! Ok, my drum was plastic containers upside-down! We practiced for days, then we recorded ourselves. They listen to it, boy did we laugh: we were from 6 to 8 years old, with no musical training, no idea of the Spanish language. Good choice Michele, different version, but as good!

May I suggest Buena Vista Social Club? Around 1996 Ry Cooder assembled several outstanding Cuban Jazz musicians to form Buena Vista Social Club. There is a documentary by the same name. In 1998 Buena Vista Social Club toured Carnegie Hall. We learned a dance routine to "La Bamba" by Richie Valens to try out for Dance Club in 9th grade (1970.) I still remember the first part! I was only 3 when the original came out, but it must have been played on the radio a lot, as I certainly remember it. A great adaptation by these guys. Most people in the UK had no idea what the words meant though 🤣. It may have been the Dusty Springfield cover that I remember better, as I was 10 when that came out. You should check out Dusty, as she really had a great voice. I always think of her as an early Amy Winehouse.
