Kyoto's Gion District is Beautiful (we still don't recognize foods)

Today's vlog finds us exploring the Gion area of Kyoto, and eating more food where we think we know what it is, but we're wrong. We start at the Yasaka shrine and walk down through the Gion district, ending at the Kiyomizu-dera Temple just in time for sunset. Afterwards, we stop at a very local ramen restaurant for dinner! This was an amazing day in Kyoto!

The three rice balls on a stick is mitarashi dango - rice dumplings essentially, in sweet soy sauce glaze. Also, about sake (not saki), you pour and/or refill for each other but not yourself. You pour for your companion and then your companion pours for you.

Japanese students usually go to Kyoto in their second year of high school as a graduation trip. Kyoto is a city of cultural value, so students from all over Japan head there. Autumn is the most popular season, but students often visit in spring and other seasons. Most of them are in Osaka, Nara and Kyoto. There are also schools that go overseas or to Hokkaido.
