Interesting story: This was my introduction to Star Wars when I was like 6 or 7. And then one day A New Hope was on TV and I was like, "hey, those are the two robots from that show that I liked." I watched A New Hope, loved it, and I've been hooked ever since.

I was a kid when this came out and what you're describing is exactly my experience. I watched it because I like C3P0 and it was a cartoon but I fucking hated it anyway.

I remember watching it on TV as a kid. Star Wars was my favorite thing, so anything Star Wars was loved. Droids was no exception. I remember missing the Star Wars x-mas special because we went to some church x-mas party. I only caught the last 2 minutes when we got home. I was in my 30's before I saw it all. Kinda glad I missed it. The Donnie and Marie Star Wars Special was better than SW x-mas and it was corny af. I bought the Droids and Ewoks series on DVD for my kids. They liked it too.

Fun. Fact: Lucas intended for R2 and C-3PO to be like Abbot and Costello. Like David Prowse, Anthony Daniels wasn’t meant to voice C-3PO. Both droids were supposed to have Brooklyn accents. A famous voice actor was brought in to do their voices. However, he took one look at the footage of Daniels, and told Lucas that no one could voice the character better than Daniels. The voice actor was Mel Blanc.

I think that droids is cannon, but it’s how R2D2 perceives everything like he has no real clue what is happening, he just fills in the blanks with his imaginative metal doggo confidence

Fun Fact: I've actually saw the VHS tape for these three episodes of Droids and begged my mom to buy it for me when I was 7. When I went home to watch it, I was both confused and bored, but I never once expected it to tie into Kylo Ren's backstory. Now that's some clever worldbuilding!

It's almost 4 in the morning and I have to wake up in a few hours, but I'm fine with losing sleep if it means I get to watch Caravan of Garbage

Great vid. I remember that show as a kid, but there were so many cartoons in the 80's it was hard to get into and keep up with. I also recall not being interested in Star Wars lore without ther legacy heroes. There was also an Ewok cartoon...

I loved “Droids” as a kid, that and “Ewoks” a better Star Wars cartoon was “Robostory” it wasn’t actually a star wars cartoon, but it had little evil dudes that looked like Darth Vader.. does anyone else remember that cartoon?

*"THE UGNAUGHT INITIATIVE"* There's actually quite an interesting story behind the mini tie fighter at 2:04. The Empire actually had a corp of Ugnaught pilots, as they were known throughout the galaxy for their outstanding piloting skills. The Empire provided them with custom miniature Tie Fighters. The Empire typically didn't allow non humans within their ranks , but Grand Admiral Thrawn had spearheaded "The Ugnaught Initiative" and was able to convince Palpatine of the potential value of having Ugnaughts piloting these miniature tie fighters. Being so tiny, they're more difficult for the enemy to hit , just for starters. It would seem that Kylo Kahn 's criminal faction was able to get their hands on at least one of these Ugnaught operated mini ties. I believe he had some Jawas in his organization , obviously they would have been able to pilot a specialty Tie such as this. (Or it could have possibly been Kenny Baker piloting. )

I demand that you go through every single episode of this.

I watched this as a kid, forever wishing Luke would show up, much as I did with the Ewoks movies (but not the cartoon oddly) it was really, really boring but I’d watch it anyway... Then I saw the Kybo Ren episodes on KZread and watched it when I was drunk. I probably commented and asked when you’d do this but I’m not sure and not checking. Anyway, did you get Mallett’s Mallet in Australia? "You mustn’t pause, you mustn’t hesitate or you’ll get a whack on the head like this" etc.

Came across the VHS tape of this literally in a dumpster just last week. Couldn't get through the first episode. It's fate was to be trash so I hurried it along it's way.

I saw this at a friends house when I was 10 or something in 2010 and remember it as a fever dream.

(5:02) I can't help but think that the animators drew inspiration from Empire Strikes Back for how the characters follow 3PO as he flies through the air, a la Luke Skywalker watching R2 after he got spat out by the underwater swamp monster. It's just too dead on, the way they slowly track him through the air. Just shows you how they were providing fan service from almost the very beginning. ;)

Maybe you two could take a look at those Ewok TV movies that took place between The Empire Strikes Back & Return Of The Jedi, those films being Caravan of Courage (not bloody Hamish & Andy) & Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. There was also cartoon starring the Ewoks that was basically ripping off Smurfs. Though I don't think you two torture yourselves with that.

If you guys could do a Caravan of Garbage for Sonic X the animated series that would be great, you guys are great.

I never saw this at the time it was airing, but I remember getting it out from the local video store on VHS.

Of course, the whole first season and only four episodes of the second season are all that's available on my Xfinity on-demand, so they're not doing much better. I haven't been able to keep caught up lately because I couldn't make it to a TV with Cable on the exact times and dates of their premiers.

Gladiator class Star destroyer is the type of ship in the TV show called droids a type of ship use by the Empire meant to be a carrier version of the victory class star destroyer
