ℹ️ About the episode:
Never a dull moment and the RV learning never seems to end! In this episode, we leave Traverse City, MI and make our way east of Cleveland, OH to visit some "old friends" from Arizona. Our route this season seems to be based on visiting friends and it prompted the question, is full-time RV living lonely? And the truth is, it can be. In this video, we share some ideas on how to help reduce the lonely feeling with this amazing lifestyle. We also bust the bumper of the Airstream. Oh yeah, that.

Full-time RV Living has many wonderful benefits, but it can be lonely at times. The need for connecting with "old friends" helps us reenergize. What are some of the things that you do to stay in touch with good friends and keep your spirits high??

Thanks Mark and Trish. The tips you gave for maintaining golden friendships are spot on. My wife, Crisha, and I have been saying "see you later" for our whole adult lives. We married at 19 and have been moving every 2.5 to 3 years thanks to the privilege of being able to serve our country for 24 years in the US Navy. I say "we" and "our" because even though I was active duty Crisha and our kids served every bit as much as I did. It's never easy maintaining friendships, however, you find out which friendships are real though the "see you laters". With us preparing to resume our nomad lifestyle, full time RVing, we remember how quickly "silver" friendships can turn into golden "see you laters". The effort is always worth the reward. Looking forward to seeing you on the road. See you later, TheKampForce - Finely Home.

Part of the reason for us to start full time RVing is we really had no "gold" friends when we hit the road. Oh we had plenty of "friends'" but one of the struggles we had was so many said they were friends but then had no time to keep a friendship going. It was very wearying to spend a lot of time pushing ourselves into other people's lives only to find out they were just being nice. LOL! When we left, we really only had one home friend that started as a "Silver+" friend but since we hit the road they got inspired by our story and now they have truly become "gold" friends and even took the time to meet us on the road in their RV. Now that we've been on the road for nearly two years we have collected a few other friends, some who have become Gold friends and some "only" silver. But the simple fact that we actually HAVE friends now is a huge step for us and something we were looking for when we hit the road. (We had a couple life-long friends across the country, but no one at home.) The trick for us to keep our friends is to simply call them. Texting, emails, messages... not good enough. CALL. There's nothing like a random phone call to bring your lives together again. Oh, and to make that call? That means you have to call enough to know how their life and schedule is going. If you don't call enough to know what's going on with them, you need to step it up. That's what we preach to ourselves anyway. 😁 And don't forget to thank them for being your friend. Let them know they are special. Especially if they are single. We tend to forget that honest upstanding single middle-aged people sometimes have the hardest time making friends too. If you know one of those, be extra careful to keep in contact with them. Both of us were married late in life and we know how it feels.
For all you fellow RVer's out there I feel I must post this. Just so you know I am a professional firefighter who this morning at 04:00 responded to a fire just outside an RV in a camp ground. Hot ashes in a plastic pail caught their deck on fire just outside the only door to the occupants RV in which they were sleeping and unaware. Fortunately others in the campground called 911 got the occupants up and out so no one was hurt. I cannot stress enough the need that RV's have at least a 20lb ABC fire extinguisher in their bed room (I keep mine under the bed and a second one by the door) so you at least have a chance to escape. The occupants used the tiny extinguisher from the RV which had NO EFFECT. This RV park was 3 min away from the fire department their RV is a total loss but the owners can continue their dream simply because some one wasn't sleeping well and got up early. Sorry to be the messenger but people must be aware of the risks.

Sage advice! People should have an ABC extinguisher in ANY room where they sleep, be it an RV, mobile home, tiny house, or sticks & bricks. Kind of you to not only warn others, but also tell them what they need in order to have a chance at survival.

Thank you for this reminder. Also, to be safe, hot anything should never be put into anything plastic. So often we think ashes may be burned out but no so. My heart is happy for the folks who made it out, and for firefighters for whom this, any much worse, is a daily story!

Ben Rector delivered as promised “Old Friends”, it’s definitely my favorite song by him. Have you ever considered creating a Spotify playlist so people like me, who love the music you put in your videos would have a place to go to find it?
I think like a lot of people that follow KYD that we feel like an extended member of your family. I've never met you guys but every Sunday You invite us into your family, you have the best RV Channel by far on KZread. it's like a new adventure every Sunday, I'm either eating supper and watching or working out and watching every week.

Thank you for leaving the "bumper incident" in your content and showing that in fact, not everything is perfect in your world. It did convey the real emotions of that "oh crap....now what" moment. Love y'alls adventures, got us to venture up North to MI and LOVED it!!

It was Marc who taught me: "Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast."
For what it is worth when I’m in lose gravel or even hooking and unhooking the trailer I put my truck in 4 wheel low .. it locks the axels and I can do everything slow.. give it a try 👍
I’m a solo rv traveler and I just plan a visit with Reba (my trailer) and myself if friends can handle us in their yards or I do like I’m doing this week and schedule a date to hangout out at campgrounds. I’m in the Adirondacks with a friend and we have been hiking every day and experiencing the most vibrant fall colors!!!
Love how you are willing not just to identify some downsides to RVing, but you give practical solutions that help people. Y’all are such a blessing to so many.
We just got home from being gone for 3 months and the 5 year old granddaughter wants to be at our house 24/7- love it!
It never ceases to amaze me that you go ALL IN with every episode. This one was yet another gem in the crown of your glorious adventures. Wonderful! :-)
As a person that traveled all over the US and Canada, camping during my summers off from teaching, what you said is so very important. As a person that tends to be painfully shy by nature around strangers, I had to force myself out of my shell to meet people along the way. The easiest opening line was always, "Where are you all from?" followed up with, "Where are you all headed?" Then you get around to comparing notes and you can become instant friends with lots of wonderful people. Campers are the best for that, but like you said, then come the good-byes and you're off on a new adventure. While you talked about your only lives, you never mentioned how the kids deal with the loneliness. That would be a great episode to explore.

Love your videos. We are only part-time, but when we are gone for 3 and 4 months at a time we lose friend connections also. We send postcards once a week to each family member. Before we leave, we buy Birthday cards for everyone who will have a birthday while we are gone so we can send them from where ever we are at that time. We also make plans on trips to meet up with friends we have met all over the US. We also plan trips and meet up with other couples at certain campgrounds or RV parks; doing campfires and game nights.

looks like fun having friends. raised a family, and all our time was family. now, what...? guess we will see!
Great advice on taking the responsibility to connect with our friends and family!
What a big difference a day of rain can make.
We are Germans living since 9 years in the US. Now soon our American life comes to an end (work) We love it here and we made new friends. But we also have long friendships in our home country or wherever we lived and it is like you said, when we get together its like we split yesterday. If you are a traveler you have to just keep in touch with the ones you love. And here to say - real love doesn’t know time and space. So now! We sold our house in Wisconsin, bought an Airstream and a truck and have a year to travel this beautiful country before we move back to Europe where family, kids and friends are. Our elderly dog-lady Nelly will be with us. She already came from Portugal (rescue) via Germany to the US. Learning lots from you guys and enjoy your happiness and the way how you organize yourself living full time in your rolling home. Danke! ...Oh and see you on the road 😉
I love escaping my life and living yours for 25-30 min each week, thank you !!! You two have built a beautiful relationship and life together, I’m so very happy for you !!
Oh that Schnauzer!😍😍😍😍
great wisdom regarding friends and being away and how to continue to engage
Oh how cute that Mini Schnauzer was, we used to be Schnauzer breeders and still have 2 Schnauzers along with a rescued stray RatTerrier and rescued stray Husky and rescued stray Siamese cat 🐈 all living happily in our RV with us
'Currently Headed to Nova Scotia.' Good luck with Canadian entry.
You hit the nail right on the head with this video! Friends are SO important in your life. We just returned from an amazing 6-week camping trip out west celebrating our recent retirement: 41 days, 17 campgrounds, 7 National Parks, 12 states and almost 6,000 miles. At first, we has so much planned that we were too busy to be lonely. It wasn't until we started our 4 day back home trek that we noticed friends gathering around their campsites, laughing and having a good time. It was at that point when we realized how much we missed our friends. Between this COVID "stuff" and our big trip, we haven't seen (OR HUGGED!!) most of our close friends since March. I am waaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind on my daily quota of hugs and I don't like it. Now that it's getting cooler here in Michigan, having outdoor socially-distancing BBQs and gatherings are out of the question. We're going to have to get creative so we can see them soon! Even though we're not full-time RVers, we are experiencing loneliness so I can only imagine how you guys feel. It is so important to stay connected with those close to you. Getting and giving hugs is the BEST. FEELING. EVER!! Thanks for sharing this video. Take care and hugs to Charlie!! Safe travels & happy camping!
I can relate to your bumper damage story, as a new class c owner we took a trip up to Door County, WI after two months of ownership. We don't have a tow vehicle so we drive the rv when we go out to eat. Long story short, I forgot to bring in the awning and wrapped it around a stop sign while pulling out of the campground. I wasn't on camera so I said a few choice words, I'm impressed with how you kept your composure. In an unrelated story, my younger brother Kory is the Director of ticket sales for the Milwaukee Admirals, small world.
I told my husband "Trish looks stressed" then you hop out of the truck and look at the bumper... lol
My favorite part of Sunday!! Glad to see you guys still having a blast!!
Happy Sunday!!!! I think it would be lonely if you’re a people person and used to being with family and friends but if you’re an introvert then I bet RVing is heaven!
SO exciting to catch up with "old friends"....love the music you played on this one too...
This was a great video tonight. Loneliness while full-time RVing is a big issue for many people. It’s awesome to spend time with your partner, spouse or significant other, but you do need your core friends as well.
I was driving through Dallas Tx Last week and I came upon an RV and Truck just like yours, I was so excited so I sped up and looked at the driver, well it wasn't you guys I tried not to look like a weird guy, I sure the driver thought I was weird! I remembered you were on your way to Ohio. Thanks for your videos!
Ouch! Sorry about your thumb (and that bumper)! That area of the Chagrin river was beautiful, and your friends seemed so genuinely happy to see you guys, which is always a good feeling. Glad you guys got tested and are (hopefully) staying healthy!
We got the rubber pads from Andersen and they tore on the gravel the second time we used them. As a replacement, we bought a thick rubber “Welcome” mat from Walmart for $12, cut it into 4 strips, and now we use that under our levelers on pavement, gravel, or other loose stones. It works great and, so far, is holding up really well.

Marc and Trish you and your family are simply adored by my wife and I . Sharing now a three year challenge with you in a couple of sentences. I am One year into a kidney transplant.I think over the past three years, through dialysis and the transplant one major thing that has kept me going is imitating you is a dream. Can’t wait for E3 membership. Marc you and your family have made me laugh, cry and be overwhelmed with nature and surprisingly people. Thank you. Kaelib, you rock dude. Full retirement for wife and I August 2021. See you on the road soon❤️
I still live in the community I grew up in. So meeting new people is very hard for me when we go out on the road. I'm not an open person to meet new people. But what I have done is make trips to be near Aunts and Uncles that I never see anymore and reach out to them to visit and hear old stories from their youth and old stories they remember about our families growing together. That's been fun!!
Good advice for maintaining your friendships
Camping with friends certainly makes camping so much more fun and interesting.
RVing with friends is great. Having a friend build a site for you: priceless! Best line: “it’s your positivity”.
We converted a box van to an RV over last winter and have been testing and fine-tuning over summer. Just said "See Ya later" to our closest friends before heading from our longtime home on the Oregon coast and start our adventure journey as full timers. Sad face. I made sure we did video chat test runs and I had to promise to get our KZread channel up so they can enjoy our adventures.
Both of my childhood best friends & I have kept together via mail, phone, Holiday or Birthday cards, & email, or occasional Facebook. This was a wonderful video. There are a lot of really good people in the world. Thank you for sharing.
Just finished an amazing weekend with Jason on the chagrin! Crushed steelhead, beers and food!!! Thanks Jason!!
Those rubber mats are a game changer for the levelers. You put those down so that the tire will immediately drive onto them, then put the levelers so that the tire will make contact with them after about an inch of trailer movement, and the weight of the tires then holds the mats in place, and the grip between the two stops them from sliding. The first time or two my levelers slid and I used those mats, I was amazed how there was zero movement. Definitely get them.
The good news is the chrome bumper is just bolted on, and isn't terribly expensive. I agree, bad things happen why you're forced to choose between bad decisions. Don't forget, it can be lonely at home also.
Great way to end the weekend with a little KYD! Love yall 3000!
You make some good points on how long it takes to make friends, and how draining it can be to leave friends time and time again. Definitely something to think about.
Well, as the strictly unofficial welcome to Michigan officiant, thanks for visiting and hope you come back again. So much to see and do here so, I hope you'll come back and explore new things. Thanks for sharing.
Great information on how to enjoy friends and full timing.
Can’t tell you how much we enjoyed this video guys. So relatable on so many levels. The bumper - while we don’t personally know you Marc, it was clear that you were UNHAPPY. Thanks for sharing this vulnerable moment. Friends and connections - what a treat Is was to see you demonstrating how you do this and do so successfully. Sharing all the highs, or actually reaching out - what a GOLDEN NUGGET of advice. We practice this, but have certainly fallen into the trap of sharing our “mountain top and flag” pics with friends, while looking past the simplicity of just asking “how is...” We really appreciate you guys so much. Your channel has been inspiring us for months, and “thanks” just doesn’t seem to adequately cover it.
Soooo.... the bumper thing - hard to know what is going on back there. Well we had our 4 bikes in a bike rack on the back bumper of our 5th wheel. As we were leaving a gas station, my husband didn’t take into account the potential swing out in the back & One the bike tires essentially drug right over the hood of the neighboring car. We didn’t know this until a few years later when our friends told us about it. They were driving in to the station as we were pulling out. Talk about feeling so so bad. Love this video. We recently moved 3 hours north of family & friends into our retirement lake home. I can kind of understand exactly where you are coming from.
Awwwwww puppers at 3:50 made me smile 😊😊😊 so cute
Thanks for sharing your journey!
Such an important topic!
I thought I was the only guy who couldn't make things work on the first attempt?!!? Lol Glad to know I'm not the only one. 😄😂
Hey Mark I watch your driving and especially your backing up and at times I sit here critiquing what you do. But as a former semi-truck driver the 2 tips I would give to you is: As they say stop and smell the roses! Slow down! Driving with a trailer is not a race! Just slow down a little. And 2nd look ahead sooner and more often. Being successful navigating a campground, a service station etc. is planning it in your head first. Lines separating lanes are for cars not for vehicles pulling trailers. Use the whole space available in a safe manner obviously, but use the whole road! A lot of times you want to swing in close to your camping site and as you start going past it swing swing out but not too soon. Get the rear wheels of the trailer just past your campsite. And always back in where your watching in the mirror on your side. Just picture at that point the back end of the trailer is now the truck pulling straight in your spot.
I LOVE KYD SUNDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is so much fun to watch the two of you interact with each other. It is a permanent declaration of love. Honestly, every minute is fun, even the quality of the contributions is world class, just the cutting of the videos, the choosing of the music, everything. Keep Your Dream!!!

Important stuff. Phone calls are better than texts but texts are better than nothing. We travel 6 months hard to keep up with family and friends back home.
Great video as usual! We have been full time for 3 months. I keep in touch in different ways with different family and friends. FaceTime coffee, wine and lunch has been fun. Postcards to a few and on line games with our adult children. I schedule these get together in my planner. Thanks for the additional tips. ❤️🇺🇸🚐🇺🇸❤️

Love your thoughts and travels.
I’m writing to say thank you for your very interesting videos. My wife and I watched you guys before buying our very first Travel Trailer last month. At this very moment I am sitting outside my RV at the Endless Caverns in the mountains of Virginia. This is our first trip and we are enjoying it. Because you shared so many tips we were able to take this trip so far with absolutely no problems. Thanks again for sharing and helping others to learn how to enjoy the RV world.
Thank you for all your wonderful videos!! Keep it up! Great travels. Safe safe.
Good video. I'm sure there are however a few of us who enjoy solitude as well and are more introverted than extroverted; to each their own :-). Wife and I are retired, live in the middle of nowhere off a dirt road on 5.5 acres. We enjoy each other's company, have never liked large crowds, partying or drinking. Our four grown children and seven grandkids are our golden friends I guess. I'm not saying that this is for everybody, but different strokes for different folks. My idea of a beautiful RV Park is parking our Airstream by a trout river where I can fish all day and my wife can enjoy relaxing in a chair and read a book. Keep up the great videos.
We've been following you for five months now. You both are amazing, thank you so much for all that you do and share! This bit on maintaining friendships (gold) and new ones (silver) really put things in perspective. Thank you. We are nubie-nubies... picking up our truck next week... RV in June. Thank you again for helping us prepare. We hope we can cross paths with you both some time to thank you personally. Happy trails! Nick and Julianne
oh guys I love your videos, I love your dream to drive through the USA and visit all the beautiful places. I also started here in Germany. I had restored a 1969 trailer and my wife and I started traveling. Unfortunately, a neighbor burned it down. Now it's time to save on a new one and then explore the world against. you always remind me of the importance of sharing time and memories with family. I would like to thank you very much for that. best regards from Germany. Love you guys
Great episode guys. Good friends and good times.
I really like that you talked about the idea of loneliness on the road, but you added the fact that you just have to work for all types of relationships. Which hits home for me that I need to work harder. I have been on the road for a couple of months and I have met the best people you just have to be willing to meet them, even if it is out your comfort zone.
Sorry for the bumper issue. It’s hard to imagine you two ever bored full timing as you both look so happy all the time. Great tips as always.
AWSOME video!! Thank you. Always look forward to monday evening to watch your channel!!
Our Driveway...many trees...I want to widen it, but my wife doesn't want to take down her trees. I pull a 22 foot Gooseneck horse trailer. When I pull in, I move as far to the left as possible, then move up, turning left to the mailbox...just past Driveway ...I watch the trailer wheels and the cedar tree...when the wheels are almost at the tree, I back, turning to jacknife, turning to the right, I pull ahead...a little...enough...watching the trailer wheels and the cedar tree...when the wheels are even with the cedar tree, I slowly move into the Driveway.
This is very helpful for my future husband and I as we are leaving for full time in October. I’m sad to leave my daughter as she is a big part of my life as is his daughter and 2 grandchildren so this is helpful to us to stay connected, thank you so much😁👍😘
Thank you again! I always feel better after watching one of your videos. Love the music, the footage, the conversation, the laughter. Something to look forward to every Sunday!
Always excited to see that you posted a video on Sundays. Life isn't always peaches and cream but your videos are so inspiring. Had a blast watching. Thanks!
Wow.....what a video guys. Thank you.
We have met many other campers throughout our years of camping. Many of those have become long time friends for years.
I recognized the Chagrin River there in Willoughby. That’s our neck of the woods!
This has been a topic of discussion in our home as we are transitioning to a family that is traveling more. We have grown up going to church every Sunday, and friends for us and our kids have always revolved around the church. And we are trying to figure out how we can be on the road every weekend, and have a meaningful church experience, as well as maintain friendships. Glad y'all had some good advice in this episode on that topic. Thanks y'all.

We’re 10 min in (just traveled from Tx to Co to Tx in 6 days) and I had to dig dirt out of my bumper in CO! We love you guys! Thanks for keeping it real! (“But this part you can fix”, was literally said by my wife!)
