KYB: This Is Why We Do It

How do you know when you need new shocks? Vehicle owners are not usually aware that their shocks and struts are worn since it happens gradually over time.
KYB and 3 people who drive vehicles with worn suspension components find out if their vehicles will benefit from new KYB parts. To establish a baseline, a road test was done to find out how worn suspension parts performed. The road test was completed using the techniques from the KYB 3 Minute Mile. Then the new KYB shocks, struts, Strut-Plus and mounts were installed and another road test was done. The driver reactions and performance of the vehicles speak for themselves!

Don't forget to do a tire alignment after installing your new kyb shocks/struts. Some mechanics will say you don't need to but it's best to do an alignment when doing any type of suspension work. Plus your car will be great after getting the new parts and alignment 😊

Just changed out the struts in my 2009 Accord Sedan at 249,000km. There was nothing overtly wrong with them but felt lack of confidence when doing lane changes, turning would cause roll and dives on the opposite side, deep holes or high bumps would cause a loud bang and I had to be very mindful of them. Got KYB Strut Plus replaced all 4 corners and the confidence, tightening and dampening is back.

Good move. I know you're thinking that leaking is the only, "overt" way to tell if shocks and struts are worn, but we feel differently. There are the signs of wear that you listed that can be seen and felt under driving conditions, and sometimes even the ride height can tell you if a vehicle has worn suspension components. Those signs of wear are what we instruct people to look for in our road testing techniques to feel if shocks, struts and other suspension components may need replacing. Seems like you knew inherently that they needed replacing from living with the vehicle.

Just changed out the struts on my 2005 Camry at 249,000km too actually with KYBs. Rear ones were leaking but front ones weren’t. Rear ones were obviously gone, but I was hesitant to do the fronts as they “weren’t leaking yet”.Luckily I found a fair deal on a new set of front struts as they compressed down easily and didn’t even go back up and the old mounts were close to completely going bust. Honestly night and day difference, car rides leaps and bounds better and definitely feels a lot safer on the highway.

Compare to the rest of like Honda, Nissan, Chevy, Dodge. It makes a whole lot better with a Toyota, because it’s toyota’s best shocks and struts replacement by KYB.

And do u go for just KYB excel G shocks and struts? Or strut plus and rear shocks? There’s quite a few people had an issue of strut plus. I feel like I would just get shocks and struts themselves.

You change lane like it s a sport car ....lol it s a ram

  • @kybamericascorp

That was during a road test to measure the capabilities. If an emergency situation arises and you need to change lanes abruptly, will your vehicle still be in control? We don't expect a pickup to handle like a sports car, but it needs to stay in control when driving. Ram or not, emergency situations don't care about your vehicle type.
