Damn Straight. Amazing people to do business with, and be friends with. They come no better. A few months ago, I bought a 1985 2 stroke Yamaha RZ 350 Kenny Roberts Edition Streetbike From Them, with a very sick powerband on it, and I was blessed enough today to be able to buy a 2022 2 stroke GasGas MC 250 bike. My whole life, I've ridden nothing but 2 stroke MX Bikes No person, if they're honest, will ever have a bad experience doing business with the Kaplans. I bet my life on that! #4StrokeDirtbikesAreNancyBoyDirtBikes

Same. I had a 1991 KX500 and it just hurt to ride........ and start. In pure power, yes I will give it to the KX500. If we had desert riding around here I would take the KX500. I think in long deep sand runs the KX would pull ahead and not look back. BUT.... we live in New England with little to no long straight sections that aren't filled with rocks and mud. Give me a small 4 stroke any day around here.

Dude the cr250 isn’t a great 2 stroke to start with especially the rc valve and aluminum frame models. The new 450 have more power than the 500s and it is delivered way easier to use. Your statement other than great video is just bs.

@Daver G Some people have had 250cc 70+hp single cylinders for speedway or sidecar racing, just modded a cr250 engine as much as possible :) Guys always talk about max 50hp from a "tuned" 2-stroke but in reality its a mild port job with bolt on pipe and reeds then they call it a day. For sure it will not take a motocross race with factory reliability but there can be 70hp from a 250 smoker.

Mate the power hit straight off idle is scary at first , if you ride an average bike you get used to twistin the throttle wide open when pullin out of corners or blasting berms ...with a 500.. boom the power is right there from zero ,I'd go into a 3rd gear corner or berm in 2nd to avoid the big hit of power by keeping the revs higher lol

I wasn't afraid of it cus I started riding at 5 years old.. and I had ridden some 125's..i couldn't touch the ground so I had to stand on a tree stump and take off..i rode it around just taking it easy and then I went for it and I was on my back real fast..my dad had a good laugh.

Every gate drop, , with every rider, with every different bike, is going to vary. No two starts the same. That’s why consistency, of eis most often the name of the game in our sport, there are so many variables to alter the results of this test, it’s just so far out of whack. But, thanks for this, this was definitely fun, you guys ROCK !! I was a 2T racer, but I have no problem at all admitting that I flat out love the sound of a perfectly tuned four stroke ripping at the top of the limiter. It’s just brings my blood pressure up a few points ! Kudos to “ALL” the two smokes and all the thumpers !!! It’s MOTO-X !! I will take whatever I can get

I love to see these comparisons of 2 strokes vs 4 strokes. Do you know that Big Oily is the force behind 4 strokes? Why? Because they fire every other time, thus the engines need to be larger. A larger engine consumes more fuel because it takes energy to rotate all the parts in friction (pistons, rings, cams, followers) and the parts in motion (pistons, rods) which have to completely change direction. By having it fire every other time, it's a sure fire way to be less efficient and thus consume more fuel.

Not trying to be mean or nothing but what kind of real rider would want or use a “ launch control “ !!! My “ launch control “ is my throttle and clutch! No need for electronic gadgets like “ launch control “ and to me it sack religious to have an electric start on a motocross bike. Also, this don’t necessarily have to do with dirt bikes but another thing that drives me absolutely NUTS is freaking rev limiters!!! If you know your vehicle, bike, or whatever you should know where your power band is as well as your “ red line “ on your tac. Just sayin. I’m a huge fan of your channel and absolutely love all the bikes, quads, and everything else. Specially the two stokes. 500 smokers and current 450s are such BA bikes!! I had a handfull of CR500 in the 90's, in the sand they were ahead of their day, and in some ways the father to the modern KTM 300s, the 500s had torque too :) I've moved on to 450s for dune work, but it's a whole new game. A 500 I would change a piston in mid season and just have fun, fun, fun, then rebuild end of season. With a 450, I buy a 3 year old non raced 450, ride it a season, buy another 450 in the off season, and sell the1 year sand rider the next spring, just to avoid a complete top end rebuild or catastrophic failure. nice video, thanks for sharing

[Rolling Eyes] If you watch the 1996 Motocross Des Nations, USA won all 3 motos; Moto #1 (500cc & 125cc) USA’s Jeff Emig (aboard a Kawasaki KX500) got the holeshot, and led a considerable amount of the race until USA’s Steve Lampson passed him aboard a 1996 Honda CR125R, and then France’s Sebastian Tortelli passed him aboard a Kawasaki KX125...and Jeremy McGrath swept both the 125/250cc race and the 250/500cc races in classic 1996 Jeremy McGrath style... the reason the 500’s didn’t win a single Moto in the 1996 Motocross Des Nations is because technology STOPPED PROGRESSING on 500’s following Mike LaRocco winning the final 500cc championship...if you look at a stock 2004 Kawasaki KX500, it looks like something that came outta like 1985...

Depending on the track condition is what bike you need as 4 stroke is for heavy mud and 2 stroke lite mx racing on flat surface 2 strike will blitz any 4 stoke

you guys did everything possible to put the 5 at a disadvantage, its just faster. I bought 2 when they stopped in 04, ride one, the other still in crate. Also have RM500, RM465, IT490. We do it a bit different in Texas i guess, line em all up and drag race 200 yrds, and i can tell yall the ONLY thing that will hang with a 500 2T is that KTM 525, and it needs room to run it down. There needs to be weight on the 5 so it can dig, i weigh 255lbs, and start out on the tank then start moving my weight back asap. Once i get that 255 in the right spot the 5 will just eat up the ground, it will dig a 4in trench for 150yds throwing an insane roost 40ft behind it. Its violence at its best, and it wants to hurt you badly, one disrespectful move and its over. I bought a Honda 450, kept it 6 mos and sold, what a pain in the ass that bike was, hard to start, flame outs, ran hot. The 2 stroke still is the bomb. dont let the crooked government dictate what you ride....Roost

There's a guy in Europe smoking 450 4-strokes on an old CR125 engined (HPP) in a newer chassis in Pro class... I'd have to look in my history for his name...

That '03 CR250 isn't necessarily 'the exact bike Ricky Carmichael won the last championship on a 2-stroke' because most team Honda riders boycotted the new case reeds, cable-operated power valve bikes, at least for the first couple years of it's existence, 2002-3, LaRocco, for sure, used the earlier centrifugal PV engines in the SX & MX....

If you look at the first race they did at doesn’t seem to have anything with traction on the ktm bike cause if you look close the KX got off the line a bit late.
