Nice job. Great to see a vehicle where the tracks aren’t ridiculously over-rusted. Love KVs, they just look so purposeful.

First tank model I made, back in the day! Well done! Wish we had all the modern accessories back then! Everything was out of the box!

Regarding the parts, this is mostly out of the box, too. You could add more detail with etched parts, a metal gun barrel and so on. :-)

@@marcusaureliusgermanicus4184 I guess your kit was the one from 1972 (KV-1 Type C) or 1975 (same kit, new box, a few updated parts). Tamiya made five KV-1 kits over the years. The kit in this video is new, from 2020. If you got the old kit, you're right. No etched parts back then. When I started working in a hobby shop in the early 90s, there already were lots of aftermarket parts. Trimaster started making aircraft models with etched and white metal parts included in 1989 I think. Tamiya started to make their own etched parts, brass ammo, separate track links and so on in the 90s when they made new (more accurate) tools to replace their old kits. When I wrote "this" model, I was referring to the new kit in the video. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough. It was also built without etched parts but could have been made with such parts. :-) Some of the things in this video could have been done in the 70s already if people knew how to. The oil brushers are nothing else than thinned oil paint, ready to use. I have a set of Winsor & Newton oils for that purpose. The enamel washes are very thin enamels. That already was around in the 70s (I think Humbrol started production in 1976). As for pigments. Pastel chalk is very good for that. We did use those to achieve the effects of dust and rust. But yes. The market has evolved to a point where you easily can make the most realistic models, which is really awesome. And since a few years, there are 3D printers around. I have two of those now. Both resin printers which I use mostly to make figures.

Great video!! Awesome build and weathering. I had just finished Tamiya's old 1970s KV-1 kit for wanted a vehicle depicting in captured Finnish camo and markings when this newer kit came to the market. Just had to get this kit and it was a gem to build. Just need to finish weathering it and my Finnish version.

If you want to achieve a more realistic look to tanks/tracked vehicles, you should paint the contact surfaces (where the road wheels touch and where the ground touches) of the tracks a bare metal colour. other than that looks impressive and I hope you two have a happy new year

Same. Also if you want to apply chipping effects to them, make sure you spray over a matte finish so the paint your chipping has something to grab onto. Sprayed some hair spray and then ammo over a gloss coat. Went to chip it and all the paint comes off, not just spots.

Nice job! But 8:10 - 'Chipping' (AMIG-044) color is better for scratches\chipping than rust colors 11:30 - 'Streaking grime' (AMIG-1203) is better for this 16:30 - 'Rainmarks effect' (AMIG-1208) can be used here I don't like highligting everything with just 'highlight' color (especialy all bolts). base for dark, light for base and highlight for light. 'Chipping' color over highlited edges also great idea Don't use glue over painted areas. Model glue in general is dissolved plastic and it works only over modeling plastic (polystyrene). Clean surfaces out of paint before glueing. Once more: good job! And my comment is just an advice for newbie models who will watch this video.

Quite soon if they don't start shipping acrylic thinner then modelling will have to take a break. Here in Oz there hasn't been any 250 ml X20 A for six months, along with nato black, and a few other essential items. I don't use MiG Ammo, to confusing, I prefer the simplicity of Vallejo's pre-packaged weathering boxes.

A little bit too much rust - most of these early soviet vehicles were knocked out by the Germans in Summer / early Autumn 1941 and didn`t even have the chance to get that much rust. Also due to the fact that they were only something about one year old, designated as elite units and therefore kept in very good state by their crews. Otherwise: nice work!
