Kurtis Brand

Kurtis Brand
« One stroke, one cut, one breath. Repeat. I disappear into the work, it's not about me. »
Kurtis Brand is an American painter, textile artist, and sculptor whose works have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in Guatemala. Referring to his compositions as "contemplative art", he cites the practice of Zen Buddhism as well as the themes of emptiness and meditation as being ever-present in his artistic expression. Brand's pieces are often created using materials such as cotton and earth, coupled with acrylics and colored pencils on fabric, wood, or canvas.
For the last decade, he has lived in New York, Guatemala, San Francisco, and Connecticut amongst and passionately absorbed in a culture of vast extremes which lends a poetic, immediate and visceral quality to his work.

Kurtis Brand shows us why there is never an end to human imagination. Brand's way of doing abstract art once more breaks the mold and his painting takes us on a journey that goes one step further into the unknown.
