This lyric was released by Sondre Bratland in 1988 to the Irish folk song "Down by the Salley Gardens" from the 1600s: Gje meg handa di, ven, når det kveldar, Lend me your hand, friend, when evening comes, Det blir mørkt og me treng ei hand. It's getting dark and we need a hand. La dei ljose og vennlege tankar Let the bright and friendly thoughts Fylgje oss inn i draumars land. Follow us into the land of dreams. Lat varmen frå ein som er glad i deg Let the warmth of someone who loves you Tenne stjerner i myrkaste natt. Light stars in the darkest night. Gje meg handa di, ven, Lend me your hand, friend, Når det kveldar, When evening comes, Det blir mørkt og me treng ei hand. It's getting dark and we need a hand. Varme tankar og hender som trøystar Warm thoughts and comforting hands Er som sol over frosen jord. Is like sun over frozen ground. Kjenne varmen frå ein som er nær deg Feeling the warmth of someone close to you Gjev langt meire enn store ord! Gives far more than big words! Lat varmen frå ein som er glad i deg Let the warmth of someone who loves you Tenne stjerner i myrkaste natt! Light stars in the darkest night! Gje meg handa di, ven, når det kveldar, Lend me your hand, friend, when evening comes, Det blir mørkt og me treng ei hand. It's getting dark and we need a hand. It's not very different from Michael Jackson's song HOLD MY HAND: This life don't last forever (hold my hand) So tell me what we're waiting for (hold my hand) We're better off being together (hold my hand) Than being miserable alone (hold my hand) Cause I've been there before And you've been there before But together we can be alright Cause when it gets dark and when it gets cold We hold each other till we see the sunlight Hold my hand Baby I promise that I'll do All I can Things will go better if you just hold my hand Nothing can come between us if you just hold Hold my, hold my, hold my hand Hold my hand The nights are getting darker (hold my hand) And there's no peace inside (hold my hand) So why make our lives harder (hold my hand) By fighting love, tonight Cause I've been there before And you've been there before But together we can be alright (alright) Cause when it gets dark and when it gets cold We hold each other till we see the sunlight So if you just hold my hand Baby I promise that I'll do (If you just, If you just) All I can Things will go better if you just hold my hand Nothing can come between us if you just hold Hold my, hold my, hold my hand Hold my hand I can tell that you're tired of being lonely Take my hand, don't let go baby, hold me (hold my hand) Come to me and let me be your one and only (hold my hand) Cause I can make it alright til' the morning (hold my hand) I can tell you're tired of being lonely (hold my hand) Take my hand, don't let go baby, hold me Come to me and let me be your one and only Cause I can make it alright til' the morning Hold my hand Baby I promise that I'll do All I can Things will go better if you just hold my hand Nothing can come between us if you just hold Hold my, hold my, hold my hand Hold my hand...

This song was SO needed at this time. It was a horrid horrid time. Norwegians are so peaceful . They were not prepared for that day. Helene did a good job not crying. You could tell she wanted to. If you watch this and the Mit Lille land tribute you can feel the hurt.

I watch this over and over again. Helene sings more in this genre, and I LOVE it, I wish Kurt would too. Cover songs are nice, but he is way too talented to settle for that. This song captures his talent. I can't find anything that is better than this, or even close. I would love more folk music in Norwegian from Kurt.

José Luis: Well spotted, but I'm afraid the Irish air of the song is The Moorlough Shore. The Irish one Give me your hand (Tabhair dom do lámh) was written in the 17thC by Ruairí Dall Ó Catháin. A lovely performance by both singers; haven't come across Kurt before but am familiar with Helene (I especially like her performance of Mit Landa). The air is out of copyright (if it ever was in it) so the song writers are quite entitled to use it, but it would be nice to indicate where it came from. Of course, it could have originated in Norway and was brought to Ireland by the Vikings from Norway (Na Dubh-Ghaill)

@@himavari48 Is it norwegian because the words are in the Norwegian language; by that reasoning all Engish songs are English. What do you think the US, Australian, New Zealand, Irish songwriters would think of that? The lyrics are undoubtedly in Norwegian and were probably written by a Norwegian poet; is that sufficient to give a song its nationality? Do you not think the composer of a song should get some recognition especially if s/he is of a different nationality to the poet?
