I’m 53 years old and this was by far the coolest hunting video I have EVER seen! I love the passion that Mutt’s and her family/team put into every aspect of the experience and the respect they have for the bears. As to the hunters- Loved to watch their experience together and the relationship they built w/ the outfitters! Nicely done across the board!

Fantastic movie. Mutts and Jack are the absolute best. To have them guide you into their world is truly spectacular. The thing that sets them apart is this is not their job this is their way of life. They have grown up in it, breathe it, respect it, and truly love it. They are raising their children in this wonderful world. To actually experience a trip like this is indescribable.

@@glacierguidesinc.3117 You’re very welcome. The whole video was fantastic. The scenery there, I’m sure the video didn’t do it justice. Alaska is a dream of mine. Not necessarily to hunt, which would be amazing, but just to see it in person and experience the beauty of it. One day!! And a Blaser makes sense! Thank you.

In the spring it’s not bad when they move on to the grass. Now the fall it tastes like bad fish.

Yes. They get them bad in the fall and you see them laying on the ground along the river or hung up in a log jam.

After watching the Gritty Guys hunt bears and how much they love the meat, it’s sad to see the bear skinned for its hide and the meat foregone. I understand brown and Grizzly is awful and I understand its waste. But that’s not the case with black bear. Trophy hunting…not for me.

Gary, Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Conservation hunting has many faces but hunting is hunting and selecting older “Trophy” males is still hunting. Poaching we can all agree is no good. Sometimes people will confuse poaching with trophy hunting. Fall black bear or brown bear meat has a strong fish taste. Fall black bear meat It’s like eating anchovies and exhaling. Trust me we have tried. Spring black bear or bears in the fall only eating berries is much different. “Trophy” hunting in selecting older age class males is the best part of the conservation based game management model. The meat is never truly wasted…it’s a wild world. ADF&G only requires meat salvage in the spring for these reasons.

Gary, I’m glad you appreciate the bear hunts we do at GRITTY. And although bear meat can be absolutely delicious; not all bear meat tastes the same-not even close. I’ve taken many bears on POW Island and in SE Alaska and the meat from a coastal black bear that consumes vast amounts of fish tastes awful. Hank Shaw (wild game chef) perfectly described the flavor of Coastal black bear meat when he said “it tastes like the ocean at low tide.” Omnivores taste like what they eat-mountain bears eat blueberries and that’s what they taste like. These KUIU bears eat dead salmon-and they taste like it too. As stated by Glacier, there are many conservation-oriented reasons to hunt coastal black bears. And nothing in nature goes to waste. And as a person with a house full of bear furs, I think it’s hard to understate the comfort and usefulness of a great skin-it’s a fully renewable resource that did not require a modern factory, chemicals and machinery to produce. My kids curl up on bear furs and watch movies with their friends. And then there is the experience of hunting itself-there’s an intangible value in the pursuit of hunting that changes you with every experience. I wish coastal black bear meat was more edible though… I totally understand your mixed emotions on the matter. Thanks again for watching our films. 🙏🏼
