Kubota BX working on a hill

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This was an old vegetable garden that hasn't been used for years. Working on a hill is always tricky but the Kubota BX 25 did just great. Hit just one rock in the garden which is pretty unusual for Newfoundland (AKA The Rock). After the backhoe work the owners planned to manual clear the loosened sods or to go in with a tiller later.

Glad to see you using your rops and seat belt (sometimes anyway) Lol. Safety first and keep the shiny side up.

Sometimes it's a decision that is made on the spot when real danger is potentially present. If belts and rops were both taken into consideration in terms of safety and comfort at the design stage things would be a lot different. Thanks!

Now that's a nice quality video Bob. Your good operating that thing too. All that experience sure paid off running it. Sure was windy there. I think wind is manufactured down there lol. Cool video my friend. Really enjoyed seeing it.

Sure will. Might be Saturday afternoon. Got some chores to do in the morning. I'll be in touch. Hey if you don't like that spinner knob take it off. What's good for one may not be good for the other. Personally I couldn't operate a machine without one lol.

What size & make is that trailer. I have never seen a BX transported in a cargo trailer. Are you happy with the fit?

Bob & Kim McDonald the bx fitted in with room to spare and the built anchors made securing it easy. Don’t know make or size of the trailer and the owner is gone south for some warmth.

Bob, I am here & subscribed because Paul Short told me to see your channel. I like what I am seeing here, keep up with the videos! A question for you Bob: Would it have been faster if you used the FEL to scrape away the weeds? It just seemed so time consuming getting in & out & changing the seat position so you could move it to another position on the tractor. But, considering you were using the Backhoe & it was me. I would have stayed in the backhoe seat, lifted the stabilizers & FEL & with a pole pushed on the forward pedal to move me, plus steer it as needed. Sounds weird, but you are not getting out of the seat so much. I rented a L45 that had a lever you could push for forward/backward I never had to leave my backhoe seat, just work it. Don't mind me, I am full of suggestions, just ask Paul! Kurt

Hi Kurt, Safety was the main consideration here - that's why I started at the lower left corner and worked back so that the small front wheels of the tractor never had a chance to get set in the soft soil. The slope of the hill was such that working across the hill would be too risky re tipping over sideways. Going forward with the bucket while facing down the hill would have most likely resulted in the front wheels going to the axles in the soft soil so that was not what I wanted. Digging in with the bucket heading up the hill would be a bit risky too as the weight of the backhoe along with the forward motion of the bucket while digging-in on that slope could result in an unhealthy backwards tipping angle. So I did one strip at a time and it worked out pretty good - the logical next step is to get a rototiller on the garden. However I would not risk a tractor mounted tiller as the hill as it is just too steep.

I wasn't there to really see the slope angle. But you were, so you did what needed to be done with soo many seat changes, you poor guy. ;-) Kurt
