KTM 390 Adventure Gets 47 Teeth Rear Sprocket, 14 At Front: This Is Lunacy!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Remember the time I added a 14 teeth sprocket at the front instead of the stock 15 to shorten the gearing of the KTM 390 Adventure?
Well, I have gone a step further. I now have also installed a 47 teeth rear sprocket, replacing the stock 45 one.
Why? 2 reasons.
1. I had it lying around.
I had ordered a custom 47 teeth sprocket from Race Customs a long time ago, but ended up installing the 14 teeth sprocket first.
This 47 teeth sprocket is made out of stainless steel and in a design that I wanted and Project 390 ADV laser etched to it.
You can buy one here:
/ race_customs
2. I wanted to see what even shorter gearing would do on the trail.
Answer: It makes the bike an absolute hoot. It now feels like a true KTM. Edgy, moody, with a burst of power.
I plan to ride this bike mostly on trails and so I don't care much about the highway ability that I lose out on.
For most people, it is a compromise not worth making. Let's face it, this will be a tourer for most and to get to anywhere in India, you have to be droning on the national highways for hours.
And you wouldn't want an engine to be near its redline just at 130-140 kmph on the highway.
Thankfully, I don't have to think about that, and so, here I am with a very aggressive set up on my bike.
Next up, tyres. Hopefully, my bike will also get knobbly tyres this week and I would be on the trail next Sunday.
Let me know what you make of this video, and whether you'd want to try this set up.
You can connect with me on Instagram for updates on my motorcycles: / abhinavbhatt19
As always, thank you so much for giving me your time. I hope you have a great day.
Cheers

My first concern was regarding the low end, but you were the first person to change the front sprocket to fix the issue. Now obviously the top end would suffer a bit for that modification. But this video proved that even with both the sprocket swapped out with a more aggressive one, this bike can easily cruise at 100-120 kmph. This kind of analysis does help 😁.

My riding would be mixed, everyday+touring+mild offroad, Might possibly keep offroad tires optional, Would be running on road tires only. How would be -1/+1 for 390-ADV, Just your thoughts. & ALSO, Your ECU failed midway, i missed some videos probably, will see them, but what happened, How reliable is stock ECU or You think "Power Commander V" could prove beneficial than stock?

Hi. First just run the stock gearing and see how you like it. I suspect you'd be okay with just minus one at the front. So basically, just Rs 200. And why spend 3,000 for a plus one at the rear. Not worth it. ECU has been fixed. I'll make an update video on it some time this week.

Stock ktm 390 ad provides 15:45 I.e gear ratio is 3. You added two in the rear and sub one in the front that's 14:47 which is roughly around 3.3. And a greater gear ratio than the stock that means shorter gearing which is better for acceleration rather than top speed. Is it really required to change from the stock if riding tuff hilly areas or on trails in the adventure 390 ? And what about the chain, any change there?

bro, the Adventure has the Old Duke setup i.e. 15/45 T the New ones have 15/42 T Secondly, I have been running the same setup as yours 14/46 , heres the take - 1. it Solved my touch n go traffic problem, earliee used to tire out my clutch hand 2. Acceleration rushed up significantly 3. 6th Gear became usable, earlier I could not use it even on highways unless driving at odd hours 4. Top speed has decreased as expected, but I dont care, as i dont have roads or sensible people to cruise at that speed. 5. but Mainly, it solves all my jerkiness problems with old duke, which used to happen because of tall gearing, it used to be very uncomfortable in city at speeds between shifting of gears! 6. mileage dropped from 27 to 24 , but if any 390 owner is concerned about that, he ahould go get a Splendor or a 125cc motorcycle instead.

The GSXS series of bikes are underrated in India. Silky smooth, predictable power. This particular bike is pushing out 160-170 bhp and I've take it above 255-265 kmph. It is just nuts. In the end, it was just a loose coupler. Lunacy because of the way the bike pulls now. Proper KTM it has become. Yeah, it is of course putting strain on the engine components. We will find out soon.
