KTM 390 Adventure Fork Extenders by NiceCNC

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I cover the installation of fork extenders provided by NiceCNC. These extend the forks approximately one inch improving skid plate ground clearance by 3/4" in the front and around 1/2" at the lowest point in the back. The installation is simple and can be done in less than hour. See below for a link to the product and 10% discount code.

    Just put mine on this weekend and I like the steering much better now. I was also able to leave the brake line hooked up and lower the fork just enough to get it on there. It was not hooked up on the triple clamp though as I was doing a high fender install also.

    Thanks, as always, for the video Matt. I just installed these and have done a few short rides. I’m 6’4”. With bar risers the 390 fits me surprisingly well, but my position on the bike felt a bit more angled forward than I’d like, especially off road. These seem to have solved the problem. Much better ergonomics and it takes the weight and pressure off my hands. Feels more like an adventure bike now imo. The bit of extra ground clearance is a bonus. Looking forward to getting off road this weekend!

    Today NiceCNC adjusted the description of their extenders, this time saying that they cause a 1.26 inch raise instead of 1inch. This is still 0.314 inch to little, because they forgot to add the amount the fork legs protrube above the top triple clamp, in the standard position. How this fork extender affects the bottom triple clamp can be seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i56LtdJ8pMSemKQ.html

    It was brought to my attention by by @zombiewoof when installing the fork extenders the lower triple clamp will not fully clamp around the fork leg. The top part of the lower clamp does not fully clamp down and there is a small gap left. The fork is tapered just above the lower triple clamp in the normal configuration. @zombiewoof made a video regarding this, if you go to his channel you can see a more detailed description of this gap, kzread.info/dash/bejne/i56LtdJ8pMSemKQ.html. Just letting you know if you purchase this part and do the installation you will notice this. I do not know and cannot provide any technical comment on whether this will be an issue for you if you choose to do the installation. You should be aware of this to make your own decision regarding installing these fork extenders.

    @ADV Matt You didn't mention and I don't see any comments - what about raising the rear shock too? By just raising the front, I can see your comments (bullet list nice ty) down below seems to give a better ride and you have more confidence for clearance - but is there any way to raise the rear as well to get more overall clearance and keep same bike dynamics as stock more or less?

  • @advmatt

    @advmatt

    Жыл бұрын

    As far as I know I haven't found a way to extend the rear end travel, ie lift it. It will require a new shock. The shock from the KTM 890 Adventure, not "R" might serve that function but I haven't wanted to spend the money to find out. I am still trying to decide if I really like the fork extenders. There are some issues that have come up that I am not pleased with, mostly the lean angle on the kick stand is really steep, and the seat height went up more than I wanted. The added ground clearance is nice but I am not sure it is worth it.

  • @advmatt

    @advmatt

    Жыл бұрын

    That was brought up by another viewer. My thoughts on it are, the clamp at the bottom is able to be torqued down on the fork to spec. The upper bolt on the lower part of the clamp has a small gap but was able to be torqued down. Due the cap design there is no chance the fork can slide up in the triple clamp. I am okay with this setup but I need to spend a lot of time riding the bike to get a good feel for it and watch for any issues. I don't expect to see any though.

  • @advmatt

    My Hyperpro shock is a standard length. I have had the forks apart. If you install the Hyperpro progressive springs you won't be able add a spacer. The springs are longer and stiffer. The fork length won't change either. The new springs will get you to a proper sag height.

    Hi, sorry, I think there is some confusion here. There is not enough brake line to lower the fork leg enough to install the fork extenders. I had to remove the caliper and then I could install the extender. Once everything was put back together there was a sufficient length in the brake hose. I do have bar risers and there was enough brake hose. Keep in mind the brake line to the caliper goes through the ABS controller, it doesn't go straight from the handle bar to the caliper. Hope this helps.
